Yeah easy for me to remember since I researched it so much while working on it but unfortunately the 73 Charger is about to go up for sale because it just sits in the garage because there's not really anyone in the area that is capable of working on it to really perfect the way it runs. I've done all I could to it. It does run and drive. I just am waiting for a good warm no rain day to be motivated to put the rebuilt radiator back in and start it back up. I did everything mechanical to it except exterior body work. It's got all the goodies that Mopar buyers want big block Chrysler 400-4BBL, 8.75 rear end with 3.91 Sure Grip, 727 3 Speed Automatic, front/rear sway bars, Certified Calibration Highway Patrol Speedometer. It's also not feasible to drive in the area because of the nonstop traffic and frequency of traffic lights. It's really made for the country where you can really drive it hard. Plus I've got my 99 Dodge Dakota 5.9 R/T that I've gotten all fixed up that has just as much power and I can just get in and go anywhere without worrying about it making back without problems and it already came with factory fog lights unlike the Ranger.

As far as the Ranger fog light installation. I got some illustrations from Ford that didn't help very much but gave me an idea of how they mount. I went out and looked at my bumper and I believe I see how the fog lights will mount. The new fog lights should be here by the weekend and I see that they actually bolt to the bottom part of the chrome bumper through 3 M6 speed nuts and screws. I will see how it installs when I get them.

I just got the fog light assemblies tonight. I'll probably install them tomorrow if the weather cooperates. I will then need to get the fog light bezel and the wiring kit. I hope that wiring kit is as easy to install as stated here.  I still have the factory battery cable ends so it might be tricky to tie the power wire into the positive terminal since I don't believe the bolt comes all the way out.

Do yourself a favor and make sure the wire from the battery to the really and then to the lights is heavier than the total current draw of the lights.

Example, "2 lights x 55 Watts/ea = 110 WattageT; 110 WT / 12 volts = 9.1 amps; which in turn calls for a minimum of 16 gauge wire, make to use 14 gauge wire instead.  It will help the lights in the long run, the bulbs will last longer, and run tighter.
I don't know what The Buggman has for wire gauges inside of his harness but check it out.

AND... The Buggman will be there for you if you run into trouble but I am thinking you shouldn't.

Get some pictures of the mounting points and how everything attaches, should help out someone else in your shoes.

Here is the lights installed. Haven't ordered the wiring kit yet because I want to make sure all this actually fits. I'm hoping the wiring part is going to go in without any issues. The actual fog lights mount with 3 screws M6x1.0 20-25MM long using 3 M6 speed nuts. There is two screws that mount on the bottom side of the bumper and one on the back that I couldn't get to. However, with the two main screws securing the light into the bumper it is more than adequately sturdy. The plastic valance was a pain to install. It's almost as if it wasn't long enough to wrap around the bumper. I broke one of the clips on the valance but there's more than enough to secure them. The only downside is that if you ever have to change the fog light assembly again this plastic valance will have to come off and you will likely ruin it. They don't seem like they are made to come off. The bumper, valance, and even the fog lights were all made in Taiwan so I'm sure the measurements are off a bit. Not to mention mine has been mildly crashed in the front. That's why I couldn't get that bumper perfectly even but it looks better than it did. A torch and we probably could've perfectly straightened out the one bumper mount that got bent in the crash. Another future issue to address is the aftermarket transmission cooler you may be able to see at the bottom. I would like to change it to the factory external transmission cooler offered so it will actually bolt to the core support instead of just being tied wherever is convenient. Also another option that wasn't available with the 2.5.

Looks great, I too agree the valance is designed to be impossible to remove without damaging something.

I had a gold 2000 I bought to sell, the valance had been ripped out on one side there was no good way to attach it since the tangs were busted. You can see 2 of 4 screws I put in (self tapping sheet metal screws I did drill a small hole first being bumpers are thick):

They will be nice, once you adjust them.
I think the light output of the OEM Units were great but things change.

Take your time, do it right the first time !

Ok I've got everything now but the wiring kit. I luckily found a 99 Ranger in the salvage yard that had the fog light radio bezel and it wasn't a 4x4. The a/c registers seem to be loose on it though so that's a setback. I even attempted to get the factory fog light wiring harness since the engine was out of the way but it proved too difficult. One other question is. Where is everyone running the wiring kit through the firewall to get to the switch? Obviously it will have to go through the firewall but is there a hole in the firewall that can already be used or do you have to make one? Just waiting on how to order the wiring kit and hopefully it will all work out.

Sound good finding the truck in the JY !   I don't fully understand the removal of the OEM Harness, usually it's the hangers that hold things up but a good set of side cutters and a screw driver make removal of things in tight places a little easier.  Ford did have a problem with using too much tape on the hangers too !  To me... if you want to use the OEM Switch, you will need The Buggman's Harness and some extra wires, sized for the wattage of the bulbs to connect things together.

As far as running wiring through the Firewall, what I do is start on the drivers side, look for any rubber bushings, try probing the with a non sharp tool, and see if you can go through easy, then snake a wire or two through.
Look where other wires go through, sometimes there is room for more.
Don't go though a bushing or rubber boot that had moving parts going through it, may cause a shorted wire.
I have not heard of anyone drilling holes, so there has to be a way through.

If you do chose to drill a new hole, first make sure there is nothing on the inside or outside or in-between where there is a wire of a moving part, and always use a grommet to prevent cut or chafed wires.

As I always say, take your time !

I found running wiring in a Ranger is more taking your time and double checking what is on the other side of where you are drilling !

Good Luck... !

I was really hoping to get the whole wiring from the 99 Ranger I saw in the salvage yard today but it was almost impossible to get it behind the dash even though the cluster was already gone. Then there was the splices I had to remember. I don't know if it would have been just a straight complete harness for the fog lights or if it would've been spliced in with 30 or 40 more different wires. According to the wiring diagram it had quite a few splices so I wasn't sure if it was a stand alone harness. If anyone knows it is I may go back and try to get it out. I gave up when I got to the power distribution box. Trying to get the pins out for the relay didn't work too good. I've done it before on older cars when there wasn't so many wires. I hope that I don't have to drill any holes through the firewall but I didn't notice anywhere I could use. I hope to order it by Monday so I can go ahead and get it done. Does Buggman have these wiring kits on a site or ebay where I can order them? I still haven't found out how to order one.

Let see, I am not pissing at you but listen... using the Stock Harness is not the best way to hook up your light that you are trying to retrofit into a Ranger without OEM Fog Lights, period !

Get over it now before you get yourself into major problems, i.e.  removing the OEM Harness from a JY vehicle, which you have already experienced, running the harness back in the truck, and getting all of the necessary wiring hookups inplace and working, without causing more electrical problems.

Your truck is electrically sound now, correct, don't F--- with it; you don't want to get further into the electrical system of the truck than you have to.

"The Buggman" offers the best all around solution to using an OEM Switch with Fog Lights, either added OEM or aftermarket; and the quickest way to handle the situation.  Remember the switch and trucks electrical system is the problem not the Fog Lights.

Other methods... use OEM lights and a NON-OEM Switch, there are plenty of switches out there to meet any and all ideas of LOOKS and FUNCTION, so you can select from anything you want.    BUT... since you want both the OEM Switch and the OEM Fog Lights, and you want an easy as possible install, who doesn't, there is as stated above in this thread and others, two methods, "The Buggman's Harness" or an aftermarket/Home made harness; Buggman's being easier.

So I ask you, "What do you want to do"; you need to get that straightened out first, then you can proceed to deciding what you need for parts to complete the project ?

One other suggestion, I may get bump from the site for this, but go over to the other Ranger Site, "Ranger-Forums.com", check out there How-To's, ask them about your project, see what kind of responses you get and then, please, come back and let us know where you are or what you did !  This can be a far easier project than you are making it.

p.s.  One more thing, it has been said above in more than one way, running an OEM harness in a Ranger for the Fog Lights or other accessories that were not original Equipment, and connecting all of the intersecting wiring, without causing more electrical nightmares than you want to handle, it is not worth the trouble.

p.p.s.  Please don't think I am jumping in your s--- just to be the A-Hole I am, because I am not, well I am an A-Hole, but I am just trying to let you see that installing and hooking up an OEM harness in an older Ranger is not... as easy as expected and unless you have the necessary auto electrical abilities, you WILL run into problems.  Ask me how I know !

Good Luck on finishing this project, I do really hope it works out because those OEM Fogs will light up the road in front of the truck really well.

As buggman, Scrambler82, & I have stated before in this thread, get one of buggman's harness kits & install it. It comes with a relay & a factory switch, get a radio trim panel from a Ranger in the JY that had the factory fog lights & install it in your truck with the buggman switch & it will look factory. Easiest way by far.

AND... the The Buggman's Harness will probably cost you less than a JY Harness !

And Buggman has stated you can even have him change the color of the LED in the Switch, so when the lights are on you can see whatever color you want !

One more last point... I have owned Rangers for... well longer than I want to remember, and I have one rule of thumb I use the fooling around with my electrical projects, ALWAYS, "Do not cut into the OEM Harness" !
If some thing goes wrong with the running of the truck or the body harness then you already know it is a stock harness and by-far easier to diagnose or if you screw up the lighting harness, at least the truck will still run.

I'm just trying to make you see the easiest path !

I lied a little above, I did cut into the directional harness to turn my High Bed Lights into Directionals... but the wiring was right there under the driver's seat, probed out and was an easy project !

I'm definitely trying to get one of buggmans harnesses. I don't know if he's not on here much or busy with work but I'm willing to order it as soon as I get a reply. He's been very helpful with questions I've had about the harness setup. I was just trying to get the oem wiring if it was easy to remove and a whole separate harness while I was at the salvage yard looking for some other stuff. But apparently it wasn't so easy to remove so I left it. I do want the easiest install. I've gone through whole wiring harnesses to repair or track down broken wires. However, those were on 40-50 year old cars with half the amount or more of wiring so it wasn't such a task. I did manage to find a bezel with a factory fog light switch yesterday and went ahead and picked it up. So I literally just need the buggmans harness and to hook it up. I actually don't want to wait too long because I do a lot of night driving and everytime I'm driving at night now I realize I can't turn on the fog lights because they're not hooked up. It's not an extreme emergency but I do want to get them wired up in the next couple of weeks if possible so I'm considering this expensive harness here on the link as a last resort. They said it is setup to run the oem switch too. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Ranger-Fog-Light-Wiring-Harness-1998-1999-2000/160492872240?hash=item255e1ee230:g:YPwAAOxyA4ZRSaUT&vxp=mtr

I have a spare buggman harness I would sell you cheap + shipping if you are interested. If you would like I could take a picture of it & post it if you like. BTW he also includes install instructions with the harness.

OK, look do it your way or whichever way but Buggman's Harness has an OEM Switch with choice of color indicator lights.

I don't think his Harness costs $75.00, I was thinking more like $30, and you have someone to talk to, if problems arise.

I am not saying the other harness is better or worse but you have an idea of what you want, get it done !

Good Luck on the Fog lighting, you will be happy you have the Fog Lights once they are running.

I miss my Fog light on my '03, I took them off when I went to the new bumper and have not replaced them... there are holes for them too.

I recently picked up a set of Cheap LED Fog Lights from eBay, hoping they will work out and work with the Factory setup, but waiting for the Projectors to get finished first.

Here is a pic of the harness w/relay, 2 inline fuses, the factory switch, & the instructions all part of the buggman kit. All the wires are labeled. Originally cost me $35.00 w/shipping, I am asking $25.00 w/shipping.

I got the wiring harness, bezel, and lights installed. I just have to wire up the actual fog lamp bulb connectors to the 12 gauge power wire. I also am having a little difficulty connecting the battery feed terminal since I'm still running the original battery cable ends. The clamp bolt isn't suppose to come all the way out. It has a lock keeping it from coming out too far. I haven't tried but it's possible I may be able to secure it with a small hex nut on the otherside where the thread protrude. I also tied in the 12v igniton and illumination for the factory fog light switch into my aftermarket radio junction harness that connect to the factory radio plug. I hope that is ok. What's the easiest way to tie the two fog lamp bulb connectors power wires together? Does each bulb connector's ground wire have to be bolted to it's own separate ground or can they be tied together like the power wires and be run up to a common ground on the core support?

Here it is working, everything works but the Amber ON Indicator light for the switch. We finished the install today. It does make a difference. We had a little problem with them not working. The scotchlock we had tapped into the 12V ignition didn't pierce the wire so the lights weren't coming on but we quickly traced it back to that. I had an old switch that was already in the fog light radio bezel that worked but the ON indicator didn't work. The Amber ON Indicator light on the fog light switch I got with the kit worked initially and then for some reason it doesn't work now. The backlit illumination of the switch works. It has a little bulb on the side of the switch but I'm not sure if that is for the backlit illumination or the ON indicator light. Either way it seems to be working good. I would just like to know why the ON Indicator light doesn't come on.
