I'm buying a used Superlift kit tomorrow for an amazing steal, only downside is he doesn't have the rear lift. From what I understand the rear lift is just blocks and shocks, is this correct? If so what size block do they come with so I know which to buy.

Also I plan on buying all new shocks, I hear that the stock Superlift shocks aren't the best for ride quality so am curious to what options are out there for shocks besides the Superlift shocks.

I can't say anything about the other stuff, but i think you're right about the blocks, if you know what was advertised as the lift, i think the block should be that size.

as I am not a fan of rear blocks, I would suggest contacting deaver springs, you can have custom rear leaves made for a very reasonable cost.

I'm not the biggest fan of blocks either but deaver springs aren't in the budget and the springs would cost me more than the whole rest of the lift I'm getting.

The lift is a 4in lift and the only blocks I could find are 3in blocks so I'll most likely get the 3in blocks and a pair if 2in shackles, the shackles usually have a hole for 1in and one for 2in so I'll have some adjustability.

Yes mine were basically BLOCK, and you have to use the OEM Block too !
IMHO not a good idea to use too much block, but using two blocks... NOT !

I purchased the SkyJacker 6" Leaf Springs, used no blocks, not even the OEM pieces and all is working well.

There is a Thread on the SkyJacker 6" Leaf Springs Leaf Springs, check it out !
Sorry no link, at the moment I shouldn't even be typing !

The Skyjacker rear leafs are more all ng the lines if something I could afford and would cost me about double the lift blocks and shackles instead if 5-6x as much for the Dealers. That is assuming the 1997 rear springs fit my 2000 which I'm assuming they will.

if its a 4" lift, the rear being 3" is probably correct. Typically the front is lifted more than rear to give the truck a level stance. My 6" lift on my powerstroke had 5" rear springs.

Yes, a 3" block kit provides rear lift and you stack it on top of the original Block. Check with local laws, some Authorities will get you for an unsafe vehicle stacking blocks on Trucks.

Expect the factory front drivesahaft to last no more than 20K miles; Superlift offers an optional heavy duty CV style replacement shaft.
  • Note that FX4 models require optional Rear U-bolt Kit part number 10914
  • Note: NOT recommended for 2010 models that have Traction Control/Stability Control
- 4" Lift 2000-2010 Ford Ranger 4x4

Or..

- 4" Lift 1998-1999 Ford Ranger 4x4

INSTALLATION INFO

And just for easy way out. 3 inch Block Kit - 1998-2010 Ford Ranger 4WD

And although it has been a consideration for lift kits, we have not secured anything with Superlift as of yet, we couldn't help you just yet..

Should you choose to, We can help you out with Deaver springs however either in available pre-options, i.g. 7 LEAF 2 1/2 INCH LIFT REAR SPRING; Ford Ranger or custom ones.

The one thing you will notice AFTER the kit is installed is if you have the torsion bar setup, how low those hang and get hung up on things. Good news is as you invest further into your build, there are kits to convert the front to a coilover suspension (2.0 Fox, 2.0-2.5 King, Ect..) that work with the Superlift kit and actually rid the truck of the torsion bar system completely and getting that 4.50" of clearance making for a way better ride altogether among other abilities and benefits.

Sure your price may increase as you go but your cost factors overall for your investment will be very low for the years after you will enjoy your rig

First step would be to verify the cost of the SkyJacker (SJ)  Springs and the fitment !
There is a Thread about the SJ Springs and the Bolt sizes vs which Rangers they will fit.
Then if the SJ Spring will not work out for you, you should consider a body lift until you can get all of the parts together for a suspension lift.

The Suspension Lift is not a piece meal move , so have everything in front of you before starting.
Another choice is a 3" body lift, again not something I like to do especially in the 3" version, but it will work for larger tires and the look of a lifted truck without the under frame clearance.   A lot less money and something that CAN be reversed if needed.

IF you do a body lift, make sure the kit comes with good hardware, (I'm thinking Grade 5 Bolts) don't cut corners on a body lift, get a quality kit.

I am not trying to change your mind about the lift, I like my Ranger lifted on the SL Kit , I think on 33" tires it is a great lift.   The rear kit didn't work for me, the SJ Springs took out the Lift Blocks, and the Shocks were wrong because, I think, my large tube rear axle (31 spline from an FX4), I needed different length shocks.
Another thought... smell the smoke...  Maybe a 2" Body lift for now and then the suspension lift later will end up with a lift to accept 35" tires.   A double lift has been done by a few others here on this site and other sites, so something to thing about.
Just how much lift are you looking for ?

What size tires do you want to run ?
Just asking, how much for the SL Kit... Front Kit ?  Remember the SL Kit is actually two kits !
Talking too much again, good luck on your choice !

Thanks for all the feedback, I'm looking to run 33x12.5 tires and was originally just gonna do rear shackles and front keys until I found this deal. I picked it up this morning and it is the entire front lift, I got it for $450 which is why I couldn't pass it up. I'll look for the Skyhacker rear leaf thread and then illI consider all of my options.

Thanks, I've done some searching and it looks like the newer Rangers have larger bolts for the front spring mount and guys are saying for the Skyjacker springs you can swap to a smaller bolt.

Since I do not know what year your truck is, I can't say one way or the other... BUT If you have a Ranger '04 or newer then you need to do some searching for a spring bushing that has both the OD of the SJ Springs and the ID of "04 Bolt !
The idea is out there... yes, but if you contact a Poly Bushing company and explain what it up with the sizes they may have a bushing that will work or close to working that can be modified.

If I were using the larger diameter bolts then I would think about replacing the SJ Bushings or re-sleeving the bushing, you have to have a sleeve and if possible with a grease fitting.

The Shackle Lift is something to consider for the short term, but like blocks there can be problems with the less expensive kits.

Just talking, hope you find an answer not only for you but there a lot of questions about the SkyJacker Spring and the Bolt differences and how to get them to fit the larger bolts.   You may find the answer for a lot of Truck owners.

My Ranger is a 2000 so it should have the smaller bolt which should work with the Skyjacker leaf springs.

Now to find some new shocks.

I replaced my 8.8/4.10/non-posi standard rear axle with a 31 spine/large tube from an '02 FX4, and I ran into an interesting situation with shocks.  I don't know if there are difference shocks for the standard vs FX4 Rear axles but mine were.

The truck rode hard, ok lifted right, not... as it turns out the rear, some how some where needed two different length shocks and I didn't get them from SuperLift and didn't even think of that until I took it to a suspension guy.

All I am saying is make sure you get the correct length shocks, I went from a good ride to a Bump Steer demon after the lift and back to a good ride after replacement, all because of the rear shocks.

Something to think about !
