Didn't really know where else to post this 'cause I don't think it's worth a new topic but:

is it me or have the motorcraft cv-axles really gone down in price?

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,2008,ranger,4.0l+v6,1442105,drivetrain,cv+half+shaft+assembly,2288

Seems to me they were a lot more recently, or am i dreaming?

Got my exhaust leak fixed & installed a new exhaust system from the converter back using a Dynomax system #-39315.
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=2598492&cc=1362798&jsn=569
I used a universal ball flange for the back of the cat converter to replace the one that was cut off by the supposed custom exhaust shop that worked on it a couple years ago.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/wlk-41723
The universal ball flange was a perfect fit to the back of the converter pipe.

I also replaced the O2 sensor in the converter pipe while I had the converter out since I already had the sensor.

Nice!

I test fitted some exhaust pieces and a transmission mount on the 5.0 project. Measured for trans lines too, tapped out a hole on the transmission for the shift cable. Someone had started a screw in at an angle and messed up the threads.

I'm starting to see why you get deals on these trucks. Not a problem if you want to fix EVERYTHING before you drive it. Lol. Hopefully you still have time for mods.
Joking...

Nobody?
I thought they used to be 400 from ford or am I really mistaken here.
At 150 I might buy a couple spares.

Also had an underwhelming day at the junkyard today. Didn't fint anything I really needed.
I did find an explorer OHC and the sensor. I grabbed the dome light too ,it's big but I'm going to try and make it work.
Also tried to get an expo irs diff cover but with all the bolts off the thing would. not. come. off. !

Did you take it out to do the shampooing ?

I would think it might be easier.

When I did it to the carpet in my wife's 99 Explorer Sport I pulled the carpet out of the truck & cleaned it.

Same here.

The seat rail is frozen so the seat cannot be adjusted so she cannot drive it. She has ridden in it twice in 5ish years and complained about the harsh ride and uncomfortable seat. I guess I spoiled her with the F150 Lariat that I had from 99-13. The seats in the Lariat were more comfortable than the Lay-z-boy in the den.

(Shouldn't have put parking brake on. Or I shouldn't have try to loosen it the way I did)

Oh yeah so I checked that out a couple weeks ago...
One cold morning the parking brake stuck bad and after a while let go with a bang.
After that my right drum brake wasn't working right...

Well there's your problem:

So those were brand new shoes when I changed 'em in November, other side is fine.
I went for the "heavy duty, riveted" ones.
Nothing left, no lining, no rivets. I didn't find any debris anywhere or rivet leftovers, looks like everything just vaporized
Everything in there is new from November, hardware, cylinder, shoes. Everything allready so dirty, looks like my shoes turned to dust.
Also the drum is clean, no score marks from the rivets/backing.

The parking brake lever thing that goed in between the two shoes/parking brake handle also fell out of its "sockets" and was loose in there, THAT could have been worse if it jammed itself somewhere while driving.

Did the lining freeze to the drum and when I drove away ALL the rivets broke and then I just had a bunch of loose lining in there? didn't sound like it.

Also, doen't spend the extra $$ to get those "special coated" drums for harsh environments (Even if it's not much more at all)
Drums changed November 4 with the rest, this is what they look like now:

Some rattle can paint every once in a while does a better job.

Well my guess is that you had something seized up and the linings were in contact with the drum so the coating burnt off and the linings wore away to nothing. Worth checking the parking brake cables etc are OK before it happens again with the new shoes!

Is the coating burnt off the other side?

I thought about that too but the coating on the other side is just as bad while the linings look good.

I understand brakes get hot of course and it's hard to get paint to stay on things that get hot.
But still, I dont think the left side got that hot and well it was supposed to be some special heavy duty coating lol.

I don't think working on drums is as horrible as people make it out to be but maybe I should check out that Mustang disc conversion after all...

Arthur, working on drum brakes is not that bad it is just a little tricky with the rear axles in the way. Here is a pic of the rear shoes on my 2000 Ranger 4x4 when I replaced them July last year, I was wondering why the truck was not stopping well until I removed the rear wheels & check what was left of the rear shoes. Look at the brake shoe standing up on the left, there was my problem.

Radiator sprung a leak! Plastic split on the passenger outside of the radiator half way down. VERTICALLY. Ribs in plastic are horizontal.

I have NEVER seen a split in this particular spot on any radiator in any car. Nothing can hit it. It did not freeze. What happened?

My daily driver, the one in my avatar.

Good thing I just happened to be carrying around a radiator in my bed.

Washed the 02 today, dug out a couple wheels that were off my dads jeep that have almost new tires on them to see if they will fit the 02 since the tires on it are slicks.

Sounds like a design / manufacturing issue - why put ribs horizontally if not to strengthen in the vertical plane?

But I have never been a fan of plastic in cars - always eventually splits or degrades - thermostat housing on my Rover is plastic and that gave up and started leaking - had to remove plastic engine cover, plastic airbox and plastic inlet manifolds to get at it .... :hair

Today was a beautiful mid 70's day with a light breeze so my wife & I decide to wash our 3 trucks & within 1 hour they are covered in yellow pollen dust again. :(

Yeah I did a big springcleaning of the interior yesterday and wanted to keep going and get the exterior all shiny but remembered the trees still have to do their spring "thing" and explode pollen all over.

Changed the oil and filter in the 02 today, threw a new air filter in while I was under the hood as well. Also replaced a couple burned out lights in the cluster as well.

After

I put a genuine Motorcraft crank sensor on and a belt that did stop the squeaking (yes I replaced the cam synch right after I bought it) on the Jalapeno.

Too bad I had to fill the back with shrubs and won't be able to drive it long enough for a few days to see if it made a difference.

So I get notifications when new rangers arrive at the Junkyard.
Thursday night i get a message there's a grey 2007 arrival.
Then on friday my alternator craps out and kills my battery, so to the junkyard I go on saturday.
And lo and behold, its a 2007 FX4 level II :O (pretty rare around here, in yards anyway)

So after 1 day there... backglass was gone, lights, hood, grill, doors, interior, tailgate, even the shocks lol ( it had 260000km)
What was left was rusted out bad! bed was swiss cheese under the liner, frame looked like scabs over scabs etc..
It had a steel driveshaft, bent by the lift:fp.
Maybe I should have gotten the pre -08 blocks.

I did get the fender flares, and a explo diff cover

So I installed a brand new expensive alternator today along with a new battery.

Oh forgot about the main part, the rear axle..
At 260000km and with the state it was in and time not on my side I left it in there but now I'm kind of kicking myself...

I'm planning on going to 4 56 anyway and the disc conversion doesnt work on a 31 spline I think. Also even if it's a geared lsd 260k km is not young.

Still, i don't see them often and i could have had a 31 spline 4.56 lsd instead of a 28  for an extra 140, which is what they charge for an axle. still change gears and add lsf, just beefier axles.

Or rebuilt and sold.
