Great write up and photos, that should help out someone down the line.:rock

Broke the plastic tailgate handle today, now in the search for a metal one. This is the second one in 3 years. Can't complain too much though, this one hauled a bed full of firewood packed to the brim, moved everything inside a house twice, random stuff around the property. May it rest in piece knowing it did its job.

I've been having a rear brake problem for a while now and thought back when the lift was installed, not me !

The installer said he didn't connect the ABS Brake Wire... at first I remember saying not a problem, and it wasn't, but since Ive gotten to SoCal not having the rear ABS is causing problems.
I got under the Truck and there was the ABS Connectors, on eon the rear Diff, and the one Harness end, both full of mud.
I cleaned them up, tried to connect the ABS Connectors together and found out why the Lift Installed didn't go any further with it, too short the way it was routed.

I rerouted the wiring and got the connectors cleaned up and connected, took a test drive and it appear to work better but still the right rear is locking up under hard braking... when the ABS should be doing its thing !

I have a question or two if someone is up to it:

1)  Is the wire used in the ABS wiring Special, it appears to be in a plastic sheathing, not the slit type but it looks like it, but it is solid and I can not see the wires to attempt to determine if they are special ?

2) Any thoughts on the rear right locking up ?   I've taken the Drums off, cleaned everything, greased the adjusters after cleaning, and added a little grease at the friction points.  Replaced the springs and hold downs, and any other small parts I could replace.
The usual stuff, but I am afraid that is all I know about ABS and the Brakes.   I have backed up applying the brakes hoping for some adjustment miracle and they will start working agin but so far nothing.

The wires going to the ABS are just wires.

Your rear ABS is for both sides, the sensor is in the middle. If either side is still spinning the ABS does not know the one wheel is locked because the differential is still turning and that's where the sensor is.

There is something mechanically wrong. The fluid might be favoring one side because of a bad brake cylinder (or caliper if you are sporting disks). Would have to be a mechanical failure unless your brakes are WAY out of adjustment and the pads reach the drum on one side a quarter inch before the others make contact.

wheel cylinder issue is my guess
both sides should be getting even hydraulic pressure from the single rear brake line which feeds both wheel cylinders

When was the last time you replaced the wheel cylinders?
How many miles are on the ones that are in there?
Also leaking gear lube leaking past the axle seal can cause drums to do strange things

Sounds to me like a wheel cylinder issue too.

OK on the wheel cylinder, thanks !

The wheel cylinders were installed over six years ago... with all new parts for the new rear that was installed.

I have had no issues for that time.

Although the wires are connected again, there is still a slight lock up on payment !

I will remove the brake drums and take a look, maybe if all looks ok, I will clean things up, make sure things are grease up.

Thanks for the input !

Today I spent a while on the ranger.

I replaced the crank sensor

I replaced the blower motor resistor and harness.

I started the bucket seat swap, over half way done.

JAMMAN,
Can you lay something out for me, please ?

" I replaced the blower motor resistor and harness."

I have tried this twice, once I soldered the connectors and wires to the Resistor Pak !   If I remember correctly I got all Blower Speed for a short while and then only the high and low.
I had a shop do the job the second time, had a new connector put on the
wiring, and a new Resistor Pak, worked for a short while and went away !
Is there something I am not doing, when I change the Resistor Pak, do I need to look at something else ?
I think now I need to check out the Vacuum Lines... wait a minute, what vacuum lines ?

I'm lost on that one, read a lot but can't see to apply my reading to the actual problem.
Any thoughts ?

Thanks / Ltr

Actually that should have worked both times. I just use a high quality butt connector that has heat shrink on both sides, I crimp it on, a little bit of dielectric grease on the connector to keep the moisture out and shazam it works.

One thing you need to do is cut the wires back about an inch because if you cut them right at the old pigtail you will see the copper is discolored since the corrosion climbs up the wire when the connector goes. The new pigtail has enough wire length to make up for it. If you crimp on a corroded wire you have instant resistance which means instant heat which means early failure. If you try to solder a corroded wire it will not stick.

Hey Jamman,

When I didi the job, I took a lot of care to clean things up... even used a liquid Flux, talk about smoke.

I was sssoo surprised when the Blower only had the two speeds.

When I ask for new parts, the Mechanic said "It will be costly"...  so I passed him the new parts, lol !

Even with the new parts installed still had the problem, I'm thinking there has to be another fault.

I will attempt the Blower Repair one more time, I will get the Parts from Rock Auto, and see where it goes.

Thank for the info, Ltr

Took it to get tires rotated and a bath. Made an appointment for the airbag recall replacement and a hand wax at the auto salon. This will be the first wax since it was painted. Can you imagine it any more shiny?. Lol. Just need that stupid running board fixed. Ugh...

Took my adopted new best buddy for a ride. I lost my last best friend a year ago, and found this guy at the local shelter. Another BorderHeeler like Oz was. Anyone that knows this breed, knows they come in almost any color or markings, the only constant is what a wonderful dog they are. This guy was absolutely perfect in the truck and house from the first introduction. He will not be going back to a shelter. Very affectionate, he thinks he's a lap dog, fine with me. They named him "Blue", not good enough, he's now called "SEAMUS", [shay mus] Oz was named for the Blue Heeler part, Seamus is named for the BorederCollie part.

Black06xlt has a cat named Ranger!

Yours is more of an extended cab LOL.

Worked on a couple of the rangers tonight. Got the grab handle brackets off what a freakin mess. I'll never do it again. Until I do it again.
