I parked by a beautiful brand new blue ford truck, then about 5 min's later I realized it was a new Ranger. It is so much larger than NoPower. The wheels look like 20's. It was way taller & longer than NoPower and had 4 doors. Then it came to me...to bad it only has a 4 popper for such a larger truck. :'(

What he said. I've seen 3 since they came out. I bet sales are not real brisk, the did not listen to the ranger crowd.

I have seen 4 or 5 on the road. They are selling for full retail while F-150's are being discounted up to $16,000.

It has a 4cyl that makes amazing power...
You realize Ford doesn't have a 6 that makes that much power without turbos?

And that ranger is actually only a few inches larger than an equivalent old ranger

Okay, so yesterday while picking up dinner for the wifey and myself, I saw a new Ranger that I ALMOST would own (if I could afford it).  It was a gorgeous blue and clean as a pin.  The grille on this one had huge letters spelling F O R D, so I am assuming that was a Raptor??  It actually would have been perfect if the wheels were chrome or polished instead of black... it just needed a little "bling".  Anyone here that knows me KNOWS I like shiny stuff!

Actually after owning a 2006, this truck has 90% of the mods I did to mine, just needs a few things to be perfect.

I test drove a 4x4 4-door Ranger XLT and a F-150 XLT 2wd. Not much difference in the cost and the ride was much better in the F-150. Then I went down the street and test drove the Gladiator. Ford needs to pick up their game. Fiat has done well with their new Jeep.

I can't afford a new truck so I will drive the 2004 for another few years.

I had to go pick up a birthday cake for a friend yesterday. The bakery is doing their social distancing and only letting 3 customers in the shop so there is a 10+ person line in the parking lot when it re-opened from its lunch break.

I pulled in at the end of their line. A few minutes later a new Ford Ranger parked next to mine. I was making mental comparisons when the new Ranger owner made the comment that we had about the same bedspace and asked me how hard it was to install the ladder rack. (They were on because I pulled out the kayak a few days back and hadn't bothered to take them off.) We got into the hauling aspect of our trucks and their limited capabilities. He admitted he traded his 08 Ranger to have more passenger space as his kids had outgrown the backseat of the 08 Ranger. Otherwise he was pleased as he had a lot more power than his 08 4 cylinder but the limited bed space had him thinking about a rack or trailer.

Other observations: Huge tires compared to mine, it sat very high with a high down tailgate position.

In SoCal, I have seen three or four max, there doesn't seem to be a big draw for them.

When I looked at the Ranger and the F150 the pricing was similar up to a point, then the F150 took off, all pricing is way out of sight.

I'm with you mhoward, I just don't like it.
I wonder IF the new Ranger was really going to be the the F100 that Ford was working on ?

I too after looking at Ford and Toyota Trucks, ended up in the Dodge/Jeep arena, and the Gladiator definitely caught my eye.
I drove an Overland and a Sport, sat in the Rubicon, I really liked the Overland, found one just off the truck, the computer hadn't been reset yet for a Sale vehicle.
I was the first to drive it and it impressed me, BUTT... as FORD Jeep/Dodge/Fiat thins that the people will come no matter what.

Appears to me that all the manufacturers talked to each other over pricing and almost all truck, except the high end stuff, end up in the mid to high $40K area; what are they thinking, $40,000 for a truck.

I can afford one, but there is no way in hell... I will pay that kind of money for one unless I win the lottery and then I want an F-150 Limited !  LoL !

My 2003 EDGE, (100,004 miles) will surface for a long time so I'm ok !

Sorry got carried away !

It depends on current incentives. Right now a F-250 XLT with the big gas engine, LS, and a few other small options is about $1000 more than a F-150 XLT with the 5.0 and similar options. The F-250 with the standard V8 is about $500 more than the F-150 5.0L

If this Ranger was getting around the 30 mpg rating then it would be a good consideration... Toyota, Dodge, Jeep !
Actually none of the new trucks are getting GOOD milage but when I heard Ford had a Turbo Four, I started thinking 30 mpg... NOT !

Where is the F-150, small Diesel, getting 35 mpg, what's wrong with Ford... and right now Diesel is $2/gal !

Ford has the F-150 with the V6 diesel. It is only available in the Lariat or fleet vehicles on a 10 or more purchase order. No discounts and a premium price tag attached with a very limited number produced.  Good luck finding one at a dealership.

Dodge has their half ton diesel as well. It is being produced in higher numbers as you can find them on the lots. I know of two people with the Dodge diesels. One is a contractor that works his truck hard. Both have nothing but praise for their diesels.

A friend of mine has the Dodge 3.9L V6 Diesel...  he  gets a variable mpg of 29 - 33... now that is what should be happening.

I am surprised Ford never offered the F150 at a more reasonable price and with an mpg of at least 30 mpg, seeing they always want to better the competition.

I'm guessing Ford does what Ford wants not the public, accept what they sell or... forget about it !

I have been a Ford guy since I was in my early twenties, a few older for car and trucks when I first to my license, but always Ford stuff, I really wanted the new Ranger to be "The One" but obviously it ANI'T gonna happen.
Then I mistakenly thought the F-150 would fit, yes it does but I want the F-150 Limited in Race Red... $65,000.00 was the lowest price I could find... that ain't happening either.
Ford has gone from a People's Car/Truck Manufacturer to a money grubber; too bad for for the common people !

Scrambler82, I feel your pain. I grew up on a farm and the Ford trucks could take more punishment. The 80's and earlier small blocks were prone to oil leaks but they had stronger suspensions and were geared lower for pulling loads. The 04 Ranger I currently drive is the last Ford we had on the farm before we put everything in pine trees. I plan on driving it until it is no longer economically sound to repair it (unless I get an offer I can't refuse).  I have had a few 3/4 and 1-ton diesels and they have all been very good on fuel and good work trucks except for the Dodge - after 4 years everything except the power train fell apart.

I have a BIL that for the past 20 years is trading his F-150 every 3 years to keep a vehicle in warranty. He has had one Chevy and one Nissan other than the Fords over the past 40 years.  The thing is he has never used any of them as a work truck. I also don't think any of them have been off-road. His money...
