Not to say the amp isnt the issue, but when it goes into protect mode is it thermally or is it Short-mode?
If its heat, that would be the obvious sign that that amplifier either doesn't like a 2ohm load; especially if its in Mono. It maybe okay in a stereo mode but NOT mono.
If its going into short mode, you could have a bad coil in a driver, the driver could also be being OVER-driven causing the coil to short out. (also known as over-excursion)
What ohm load are the drivers again? are they single or dual voice coil? and HOW do you have them wired in the enclosure AND at the amplifier? what gauge is the wire? stranded or solid wire? Grade or quality of the wire? Please dont tell us lamp cord.... !
And so rather than audibly listening to how the sound is coming from these "two twelves" how are you tuning or adjusting this amplifier? Are you using an actual range of Test Tone Sounds and a DVOM or are you going by ear/standing 50 ft in front of the truck kind of thing instead?
Some much needed information here before you go swapping amplifiers and doing the same wiring configuration only to get the same result... trouble shoot first.
