Well we have a great section on rear ends, gearings, limited slip options...

We need a seats section I see it on every other forum.

I have a 99 explorer sport (just 2 door not track) I'm stripping, it has beautiful seats and I would like to put them in my 2000 2WD single cab (the partial V8 swap).

I noticed the explorer seats have an additional rail beside them toward the trans tunnel, seems to be some sort of a guide for the seat belt socket.

I have also heard that some seats need the "sliders" from the originals to work.

What am I facing on my 2000 single cab originally with 60/40 splits putting seats out of a 1999 explorer sport?

And as the thread progresses (for eventual inclusion in the tech articles) I would like to gather real world experiences on swapping ranger seats between the years and mounting expo/escape/mustang seats in to our favorite little trucks.

Thanks!

Jim

Jim, the way I understand it is that the regular cab and extended cab have different floor pan configurations. Explorer seats fit extended cab floors with the only modification being having to drill out one mounting hole on each seat. Some seats have removable tracks, so you could swap the tracks from the Ranger seats to the Expo seats. Of course, if you want to retain the power portion of the Expo seats, then that isn't an option.

The sliding rail on the inboard side of the seat has something to do with the seatbelt. I removed that slider as it would have scuffed the floor board. I relocated the seat belt "female" buckle to a conveniently pre-existing hole, only needing to tap the hole to the size of the mounting bolt.

My seats are from a 2001 Mountaineer (dual six-way power leather with lumbar)

So you have 01 monty seats in your 03 extended cab edge.

You had to tap a hole to mount the belt clip being it was previously on that "rail" in the mountaineer and there was an existing hole to tap on the seat bracket.

Did you have to swap the seat slider rails or drill any additional holes in the seat rails or floor?

ALSO what seats were in your edge originally?

My EDGE had the standard 60/40 cloth seats. I originally did the 40/40 mod on them... then Cameron scored the leather monty seats. I tossed them in temporarily to make sure I wanted them, then wired them permanently.

Yes, tapped the existing hole; it was the right size, just needed threads. Cut the sliding rail off and threw it away. Only other thing is ONE mounting hole is too small for the bolt to go through. I opened it up with a step bit.

I have the seat belt harness plugged in, but I haven't done the airbag wiring as of yet. Haven't figured it out. The monty seats also have the side airbag that the Ranger doesn't have.

EDIT: Other than opening up that one floor mounting hole (on the seat track), there was no modifications to the tracks.

From what I remember from reading those threads from forums gone by. For a single cab you will need 93-97 60/40 seat tracks to swap on to your explorer buckets. You may or may not have to modify the tracks to make them fit as I have heard both. I had to to that to swap explorer limited buckets from a 2000 explorer into my 97. They were a direct bolt on fit to the seat for me. I love them they are a massive upgrade from the 60/40 seats.

1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe seats.  They are the right width and length but a lot of work to get in. I had to grind out all the rivets to get just the brackets and rails off  and bolt them on to the new seats.

Jim, my last 2000 Ranger Extd Cab had the 60/40 front seat & the drivers side seat back broke. I found a 96-00 Explorer Sport in a pick-n-pull JY. I purchased the l/s bucket seat & the shorty console & put them in the Ranger. The seat was a direct bolt in & there are dimples in the floor as to where to drill the holes to bolt the console down. IIRC I had to enlarge the front seat track holes on the Explorer seats to fit in the Ranger. To put them in a reg cab I think you will have to swap the seat tracks.

Cool thanks all and welcome Beater! Go post in the welcome thread and tell us a bit about yourself and your obviously modified ranger :)

Mike the stock shorty console has 4 studs coming out of the floor upwards did you bolt through or use those fantastic riv-nuts we have been discussing in another thread?

2 of mine were broken from my DD green 2000 in my avatar (currently) and I put through bolts, fender washers on the bottom. Took 2 people to tighten the aluminum bracket but I got it done. Drilling that hole was a chore had some drift lol.

I'm going to do the seat swap in the spring after I fire the other truck up, a guy I work with has purchased a tube bender and we are planning to do the exhaust ourselves to save money. I will drive it next summer it has been too long.

First few trips will be with the old interior till I get the bugs ironed out of the V8 then it is an all out mod fest.

Jim, When I purchased the shorty console for my last Ranger I just bolted it through the floor because that Ranger did not have a console, I added it. BTW my current Ranger that came from the factory with the bucket seats & the shorty console had 2 of the 4 studs for the aluminum bracket broken off the floor. I just removed the other two & used bolts like I did on my previous Ranger.

I'm putting the shorty and the seats from the 99 expo in to the 2000 single cab along with the carpet. I'm eliminating the floor cup holder since the expo carpet doesn't have holes for one I kinda like the way it looks. Did you see the expo's interior pic? simply incredible for its age I wouldn't normally re use carpet but this is worthy. No floor mats either it is way unusual.

My white 98 doesn't have a cup holder on the floor either. And it's real close to having no grab handles any more LOL.

i have 98 expo power cloth seats in my 96 super cab ranger. i had to swap a part on the seatbelt track & do a little adjusting on one of the mounting holes, aside from that, dropped right in. had to run power to the battery for the power seats too, but that's given ;-)

Might wanna add the following,

Tempo/Topaz

All of the years of Tempo & Topaz seats fit, the GT's are the nicest. Tilting “pillow” headrest and frequently power lumbar which is nice if you like it.

Escort/Lynx

1981-1989.5 GT's I have to verify anything North of that (91-97 GT's) The “Halo” style headrest come highly regarded, sometimes power lumbar but drivers ONLY likely..

I know the Mustang seats and I think its either T-Birds or Cougar seats too.

Nice, good to know.

Does anyone know if all fox body seats were the same rail config?

What year did you nab your seats from?

A lot of info, I attempted the Explorer Leather/powered seat into a standard cab Ranger, I am 6-2 and the size of the seats were too big, too high, not comfortable.
I tightened the front bolts, checked out the rear bolts, tried to slide in place and found the seat were to close to  the steering wheel.   I tried to drive it and found it to be too uncomfortable to leave that way.   As much as I wanted Powered/Leather Seat in the EDGE it was not to be.
Too many other projects that needed to be done.

The brackets on the Ex Seats only lined up with the front bolts the rear would have had to be re-drilled, not a biggy but not a bolt-in.

I did find that my '03 EDGE Seat Tracks were bolt-in to the Seat Pan.   That helped in the FX4 Bucket Seats I got in a swap and that the passenger side seat in a 60/40 setup, is a standard bucket seat without lumbar adjust, that is helpful when fab'g seat brackets.
The seat covers were the same, except for pattern, for all seat backs, also the seat can be swapped side to side if you can unbolt the tracks.  the seat pans have holes on both sides, allowing any shafts or cables to come through either side.   So to get a quick driver's side bucket seat you can take a passenger side seat, switch the seat pans and wham-bam... the driver has a bucket seat to sit in.

I don't know when the bolt-in tracks were swapped for the weld-in tracks but if all Ranger Standard Cab Seat Tracks are similar, and you can find the Bolt-in Tracks, then you open up a lot of seat applications for the Standard Cab Rangers.

This may not be info about Ex-Seat but it is interesting when trying to swap seats around in general.

These came from a 90.. but they are all the same.ONLY thing with fox body seats..the headrest do put pressure on the back window in a reg cab if you have the seat all the way back. Im puttin the halo headrests in from.a 85-86. Those are a direct swap  as well.
