I like that truck. It just needs to have the cab cut down to an extended cab and a real bed.

I cant argue or disagree with that. As great as a full crew cab may be, generally its just me and the lady, I don't or wouldn't roll 5 deep in a mid sized truck.

If I had a real use for a full size truck, especially in a F350-450 type Diesel which would be MY own need for a full size truck then I could see a crew cab for the "Dad Wagon" as my oldest son calls it.. lol

A couple of days ago I saw the Extended Cab version, I will eat my words here but I do think "Not a bad looking truck in the Extended Cab Version".

With a few do-dads on the front it could be a keeper, I will have to see them at the dealers and make a judgement from there !

Has there been any info on the engine selection ?
Diesel, ECO Boost, maybe a small V-8 ?

Well this is obviously the Down Under wombat and roo smasher (2011-2018) T6 based platform which from all things I deal with, everyone is telling me is the same US variant. Suspension seems to be all the same according to sources but the engines for the US variant I believe is gasoline only, 2.3L Turbo inline 4, and I can' seem to get a straight answer from any source on a possible diesel 3.0L.

Doubtful if we'll equally see a V8, especially a HO version despite my pleas for weeding out the stupid people on this side of the pond. Likely would just see insurance premiums go up and junkyards fill up with newer ranger carcasses on a weekly basis. Lol

Ford hasn't confirmed a diesel. At launch, only the 2.3 turbo is available

Outside of a 4.6l or 5.0l which isn't that small, I believe that is also correct..

I think a V8 would be over kill in some degrees. I myself don't find the practicality of it outside of "fun" factors and to be honest. Given some shop/garage time and a credit card. I could make a 4cyl truck nearly as fast and useful by still being able to drive it for a week on the same tank of gas. Lol

Externally the 5.0 and 4.6 are almost as large as a 460 big block   deff not small

Dustin nailed it.

The newer V8's are of a modular design with variable timing and overhead cams so they have massive heads. A V8 is going to be rare in a few years. Turbo 4's and 6's are going to take over.

Yeah, i'd imagine the US options would be a 6, esp as they don't want it competing with the F150.

True Statement...

Heaven forbid we put a squeeze on a (2014 Data) 970,000+ F150's being sold annually. :whatever:

I am thinking all that will be available is a EB 1.6L/2.0L and possibly a small turbo diesel. The 2.3L EB puts down 310 hp and they will not give us that much HP. It will not see a V6 for the same reason.

Ford already confirmed the 2.3eb.  This is why I don't think we'll get a six.  The n/a six makes less power and the 2.7eb makes a ton of torque.

2.3EB and the 10-speed tranny? It is starting to sound like it is going to be a bit on the expensive side unless they go cheap on everything else like they did with the Fusion.

Yeah, can't see this being too affordable as a spare vehicle.

Ford has been pretty clear about that.  The new ranger is for people who want a full size but perhaps don't have room, or don't quite need the size.  It's designed and marketed to be a all around rig.  Hence the crew cab.

If it's priced along side the canyon and Tacoma it'll be mid 20s base, and high 30s loaded.

The 10 speed won't add huge cost.  It's in everything rwd ford produces, and was a joint venture with gm so ford didn't fit the bill alone

A small Turbo Diesel would be a good option, a 2.8L Cummins for instance would be a great choice !

I am guessing a 2.0L Turbo Four Cylinder would be nice too and I am assuming the gas milage will be higher than 20 mpg but will it have the power, the Low End Torque needed to pull something other than a wet blanket !

Too many things up in the air now, I need to see where it all goes before making any FINAL decisions, although I am liking the Extended cab version of the Ranger more and more each time I see it.

When the New Bronco (NB) started hitting the Web, there was talk of the NB having a starting price of $27K or less, which at the time sounded good, but as we have all experienced, Ford as others, do not hold to their prototype pricing, I don't see either the Ranger or the NB starting under $35K and with a Diesel... wow, I'm thinking $45K for a little Ranger.
I am sure Ford will price it so the F150 Sales will not suffer !

If we end up with decent power I am thinking it won't matter which engine is under the hood, BUT the PRICE will be the next thing to talk about !

AND just to mention, although the F-150 is nice, big and could work as my next truck, the gas milage isn't that good.  Will Ford come out with a small Diesel for the F-150, as Dodge and Chubby is doing ?
Ford needs to really start thinking about what customers want, not JUST the $$$ involved.

This world is ssssooo based on GREED !

The EB F-150 gets good fuel mileage if you are on a flat highway running 60-65mph. Once you add some hills, 400 to 500 lbs in the bed, or hook up to a trailer the fuel mileage goes in the toilet.

We had a F150 with the 5.0 and the other with the 3.5 EB at work. Both had a job box with about 400 pounds of tools. The 5.0 averaged 15.5 mpg and the 3.5EB was at 13mpg.

Ford is also stating they have a 3L Power-stroke diesel that is coming. But Ford has been saying for over 20 years they were going to release a F-150 with a diesel engine and this is the first time they have released specs. I just hope the 3L PS has the durability of the 7.3PS

A diesel half ton is coming.  Should be around 30mpg with decent towing.  Ford has two diesels already, no way the ranger would get the little cummins.

The transit has a 3.2 diesel and the new 3.0 coming shortly.

In fact the diesel is going in the 2018 trucks.

The 6.7 had been reliable.  Honestly having owned every variant of ford diesel from the 6.9idi onward I'll take my 6.7, followed by the 6.4 over any other when comparing power and reliability.

We had a F150 with the 5.0 and the other with the 3.5 EB at work. Both had a job box with about 400 pounds of tools. The 5.0 averaged 15.5 mpg and the 3.5EB was at 13mpg.

As designed, if you drive anything American made or built for this side of the pond and you try to keep up with traffic, its not designed or tuned that way from the get go.. Good ole' politics rears its dark head.
