 2 of my 3 rangers have a condition that after being inside the door today I believe is easily fixed.

The 3rd one might have it also if I could drive it at all.

Anyhow when the window goes up, it leans toward the front slightly and when closed does not seal 100% on the upper rear side causing an air leak and an annoying noise at highway speeds.

There is a part that if you could buy it new might eliminate this. It would be the plastic inserts in the bracket that slides up and down on the part in this picture numbered 4. I don't see where anyone sells these separately. There is not enough adjustment in ANYTHING ELSE to make this problem better I have concluded.

Can anyone get these new, if so what is the part number?

 I'm doing a Power Window Swap sooner than later, and I will look at this area specifically.
I got the impression from another post on the subject, there are adjustment that can be made to eliminate this problem.
I had big hopes, still holding out for a quick fix.

If anyone of the machinist out there, can come up with a Silicon Bushing for this application, I would think there is a BIG Market out there for this Mod... and if like me, I would pay for a fix to this little irritating problem.

 The real problem is the bracket design itself. The entire thing would be eliminated with a counterweight system. It is simply a cheap design but you could make mildly offset bushings for the bracket that would alleviate most of it. Replacing the bracket entirely requires drilling rivets out of the glass. I would only try that if I had a couple spares laying beside me! I gots no spare glass :(

 How does the bottom fo the Slide connect ?  I've never had the door apart, I will soon enough with the audio change over., but for now I ask.
I see what appears to be a pin going in a hole, that can wear after a while.

Are there replacement system to replace the OEM Units ? I know... NO, but it doesn't hurt to ask, sometimes... someone... finds something that works.

 The problem I am having if I lower the drivers side widow about 1/4 way down (only happens at highway speed) & then when I raise the window the glass cocks in the channel & goes up crooked & then the front corner doesn't seal & there is a air leak. If I pull up on the front of the window before raising it almost always it will go up fine.

 I had the similar problem with my '03 from the get-go, never on my  '88 STX.

Mine happens all the time, if I roll the window down 1/4 or al l the way, when I roll it up it is lower in the front.
Even if I just roll it up part way it is low in the front.

I never looked at both the '88 vs the '03 mechanisms, might be interesting to see what changed.

 What is the next step, do we replace bushings, tighten the slide system, or is there something else ?
Did the later years have a better system, (I don't think Ford would make a new system for a truck they were going to do away with) ?
Mine isn't so bad that I am bothered by it but it is still a PITA  and I would like to fix it for good !

 I think if you replace the bushings with fresh the problem would go away but only for a while. The design puts a LARGE amount of pressure on that bushing and even greased to death it will not last. It is crazy I know but I was going to polish the rail a little, would probably cut the wear in half.

I have to put my window motors in this summer and make room for a speaker or two. I'll polish it and probably make bushings from Teflon.

I've spent the last two hours reading about and looking for, a more permanent fix and all to no avail.

Everyone is replacing the regulators, Bob, 5.0Lvl II, said it is all in the adjustments of the tracks !

Found out even the Power Windows have the problem.

Still looking but hoping the adjustment of the tracks will fix it up !

 Adjusting the tracks without replacing the bushings will put more pressure on the bushings. My extended cab is so bad you can't adjust it out I have to put bushings on it.

If you aren't done with yours by the time I do mine I'll cut you an extra bushing from teflon.

Thanks for that !  
Make it two bushings, my driver's side and passenger's side are both having the problem.
Are you planning to keep the tolerances tighter than OEM ?
Let me know the costs !

My Power Door mod won't happen until after the Audio, after the Grille, and after the Projector Headlights are installed.

I think you will probably be there before me.

Mine have been in a minor forward slant for as long as I've own the truck, 12 or so years and have not gotten worse.
Funny you would think if there was a problem the bushings would get more and more worn.

I need to disassemble my door soon, both for new speakers and for mirrors, etc, so I will be changing things, and will get a chance to see what is happening.

When/If you make the bushings let me know please I will gladly help with the cost and shipping.

Lets get it done and see if this corrects the problem; if it fixes the "wonky window syndrome", do you know how many of these Bushing Sets you will be able to sell.  I willing guess that over 75% of Ranger owners have this problem and some just don't know there is a problem.

Hoping you get to it soon, I think you will start "The New Deal" on window repairs.

Been thinking on this, now I am wondering if the side of the rail that takes the wear, and Jim suggests polishing it, can it get a strip of teflon up the side ?

I'm just thinking wear points.

OK then Jim, when is this happening and what are the numbers ?

 Yes I thought of that. I am certain it would have adhesion difficulties. If it were OEM you could have a strip of teflon molded with spike tabs and push it into the rail on the wear side. Hell I even was thinking adjustable cam rollers but since it does last a few years like it is, using teflon instead of delrin or UHMW and polishing the rail will substantially increase the life.

Cam rollers and it could go up and down a thousand times a day for the next 30 years till the rest of the truck rusts off the frame leaving the cam roller only.

As for when? I went over to look at my first truck, it is in a fenced in area beside my work. The electric gate failed and it is trapped in there LOL. I have plans to tow it home and finish it here but I can't because it is trapped. I will look at the gate monday.

 I have never looked at the window mechanism so I can't even say what, how, or when, but from the diagram you posted, looking form the closed side of the upright piece, and if there is nothing on the inside, strips could be adhered by flathead screws.
The problem is just how much space is inside and how large you can make the bushing to allow for a larger tracking area with out breaking.

Please keep me in the loop, I like hearing about these adventures.

 One door at a time is coming off, and it will be converted on the bench. Each door will be getting electric windows, a Infinity Kappa Perfect 5.1 speaker and crossover (the crossover is as big as the speaker) and if there is room the tweeter is going in the crank hole location. If no room I'm going to look at putting it in that triangle behind the mirror.


I have the power window setup and switches. While it is apart there will be an upgrade to the slide. I have planned the bushing but when I get back in there no telling what I will come up with.


Someone at work said to me once "You're making this up as you go along aren't you" and I had to say yes. I wouldn't recommend this method for everyone but it is the way my brain operates.

That was gong to be my plan but you will have to wirer them at the same time, cross over wires.

I always have a plan but once the project start it's go for it !
