The real problem is the bracket design itself. The entire thing would be eliminated with a counterweight system. It is simply a cheap design but you could make mildly offset bushings for the bracket that would alleviate most of it. Replacing the bracket entirely requires drilling rivets out of the glass. I would only try that if I had a couple spares laying beside me! I gots no spare glass :(
