Well, i have the dreaded timing chain rattle every time I start the truck up. So I fiqured it'd be best to fiqured out what I wanted to do with the truck, having almost 146k on the original motor and knowing that it would need to be pulled to fix all of that , I said F it! I want something fast, something the locals wouldn't see coming. My plans are to throw a supercharger onto a new semi built motor. My version of a semi built motor in tells- forged pistons, aftermarket cams, slightly ported heads, headers. On the blower side of things I plan to use a Moddbox kit with the Eaton M90 from a 93 tbird. I have yet to decide on what boost I want to run, but I will be using a intercooler for what ever number I decide. And of course, the 5r55e won't be happy with all this new power so it'll have to get beffed. I know this won't be cheap, I don't care. I go to work everyday so I can throw money away on a old ass ranger lol!

That sounds like a cool project, but i thought the timing chain change wasn't too hard anymore?

The Eaton M90 works better on smaller engines like a 2.3 to 3.8 liter engine. It would be underpowered in a 4 liter. Look at your turbo options. Developing HP off exhaust gases is a lot more efficient than off the crankshaft. And it cost about the same.

On a supercharger for every 100 HP gained it takes about 30 HP at the crank to generate it. For a turbo-charger it takes about 5 HP of back-pressure to develop 100 HP.

Agreed, Go M112 from the 03-04 Cobra Mustang.. Won't regret it. And if you set it up right, You can do a set of the right roller rockers that will NOT require a cam, you can use the stock profile cam, add a larger fuel rail and pump, and run it basically off stock ECU.

Your original rockers should be 1.5:1 ratio, plus they're not roller. Installing a 1.8:1 roller rocker.. you'll be gaining 80,000 thou lift at the valve, not changing the duration at all mind you which will increase the air flow coming into the engine. [much as a cam does] but without the added expense of upgrading a cam, upgrading the ECU or additional costly shop rates. most people can install these on their own.

I'd have to check to see what upgraded options I may have on timing chains or even the possibility of a double timing chain like whats offered for the OHV.

So what do you guys think I should do? I only got the M90 for one reason because it fits the Moddbox kit. I like how thier kit is 100% bolt on

Based on everything I have read, the m90 is more than enough.  Granted I haven't done this, but plenty of people have, and plenty using the m90.  And having bolt on kit cannot be discounted.  Re-inventing that could be expensive.

Since you are determined to go M90 I have a few questions. Do you have your adapter plate to fit the intake?
What is the elevation of the area you are diving in?
Are you planning any internal upgrades are you just going to add this to a stock setup?

If you have stock internals you do not want to go too high on the boost as the cast pistons will not last long. A supercharger is more sensitive to elevation changes. You can run 10 lbs at sea level but at 1000 feet 7.5 lbs is about equivalent. At 4500 feet you better be 5 lbs or you will be burning holes in the cast pistons. Low pressure is better.

Also be aware of detonation. Any knocking or pinging you will need a alcohol/water injection to help suppress the spark.

I'm about 1400 feet above sea level. I plan on putting in forged pistons along with main cap studs. As well, I'll be running a intercooler set up as well

Pretty sure he his talking about this kit => https://modd.me/product/4-0l-sohc-v6-eaton-m90-supercharger-kit-setup-no-01/

And I would say that yes you will need it tuned.  Best if you can take it to somone that can tune it, but there are people that can give you canned tunes that are pretty good.  I'll look them up if you want, but I think you would want an SCT tuner.  New fuel supply would be warranted with this, injectors, maybe a pump that can supply it.  And if you are going very high on boost, plan now for meth injection.

I don't plan on going over 10psi Of boost. I want to put in larger injectors, fuel pump, and a custom tune.

I'm thinking you took that picture when the wife was not at home! A nick or scratch in her counter top and you will be living in the garage! LOL :)

Thinking that living in SOME garages wouldn't be such a bad thing! ;)

For what its worth...the Modbox kit seems awesome, but its "no tuning required" is meant for an otherwise stock ranger.

If you start changing other things you'll need some custom tuning that can easily add up to $1k in the first 30 mins.

I watched a Modbox vid of the M90 on a 4.0 and it did great. I'm not sure it'd make for a "sleeper" but it'd definitely help for those guys with bigger tires or for towing stuff.

I personally would love that set up. My Ranger seems somewhat slow (3.73s still) and I know that bolt on kit would be plenty for what I need. the 3-4psi wouldn't hurt the fuel mileage too bad either as long as you're smart with it.

You can always do more upgrades in the future as well for more boost or tuning.

I want to just go with a custom canned tune. The truck doesn't need to be making all the power it can everyday, hence everyday driver

Is a 2000 ranger with a 4.0 a sohc or ohv? I found a truck with less mileage than mine that is getting parted out.

I used 5StarTuning for my canned tunes. I don't have any custom stuff going on though.

I wanted better fuel economy and I also wanted more power for towing. Plus, I went from a 30" to a 31.5" tire and wanted to correct my speedo.

So far, their tunes are great. I waited for a sale (Veteran's day I think) and got the SCT tuner and 3 tunes for $100 0ff on their website. Check them out. They can do data logging to get you where you need to be and can work with forced induction too.

I don't know Forced Induction Systems so I am not posting about the Blower in general but as you mentioned the trans may need work and what about the rear diff !
You are running 4.10 gears, what size tires, what axle size, will this kit add torque and how much ?
Are you doing the work or a shop ?

I'm just interested not trying to add the Monkey Wrench to the pot !

Luck with the project.

A 28 spline setup should handle a supercharged v6  we've pushed stock Fox body diffs pretty far
