Anyone else like guitars? I have several projects going, finished a bunch then stopped cold about 2 years ago.

I have bodies and necks and pickups of projects I have not looked at in a while. I ended up buying a bunch of tools, fret files, fret hammers, nut files, radius gauges special for necks, fret flattening tools. Repaired and re fretted several guitars a few years back.

Maybe someone could give me a kick in the butt and get me started again!

I came across a body in my garage, if the thread dies I won't bother y'all with a bunch of pics but this is a silver ML body I never bought a neck for.

Oh man! I've been wanting a good ML forever. I bought one of the MLX's a few years ago & after returning 3 of them I gave up on an inexpensive one. Started building my own bodies out of poplar but never got around to routing the neck, pickups or floyd rose.
I must have 20 pickups & an entire box of misc parts I've modded from other guitars over the years.

A "good" ML will have the neck glued permanently. Seems like fender strats are the only cool guitars with detachable necks.

I'll take pics of the rest of the current projects as soon as I can remember lol.

OK I'll post one a day while I'm gathering pics some of the pics are way buried.

This one has been traded for other equipment, but was my first full build I called him "Frankenpaul".

All started with this e-bay guy that had a mahogany body, neck and pickup routed but no holes. It was already painted piano black and was freaky heavy.

I forgot which pickups I put in it but they were rails, all black hardware, CTS push pull pots (for pickup phasing) with spargue orange drop caps. Drilled the holes in line. Anodized aluminum knobs with little red fake rubies for markers. Should have paid more for the neck LOL.  All that work and I only picked it up a dozen times or so that's why I traded it. Was heavy and had plenty of sustain.

Monday Madness.

This one I took a cheap ESP (LTD) MH50 body, EMG 81/85 (what else) and a neck from an Alexi Laiho 200 (which I hate the bodies on but like the shark tooth inlays of the neck).

Used a real ESP tremolo not a LTD which is worth more than the entire guitar collectively. Don't compromise on the trems, I have 2 german floyds in stash for if I get back into building.

In recap-

EMG 81/85, ESP trem actually stays in tune. MH50 body, Alexi 200 neck

This one is gone now, I never really bonded with it. First I wanted faded brown but could only find cherry.

The frets were so out I stripped it and leveled, crowned and polished the frets after playing it one time.

Came with EMG's but he had the original pickups (490R and 498T) and pots which I quickly put back in. It sounded awesome but I never bonded with it. Traded it for a motorcycle that ran exactly 2 minutes.

If it had been brown I would have kept it for looks alone. I'm not much of a "red" guy. Only mod was russian PIO caps. It changed the tone so drastically, was great for the early muddy black sabbath stuff. I don't miss it at all

Didn't know you were a fellow musician, Jim! I have a deep fondness for Les Paul style guitars, although my only electric is a Floyd Rose Strat.

Cool post pictures!

I'm not sure what I like any more LOL. I thought I was a les paul guy and waited most of my life to buy one then didn't like it.

My absolute favorite guitar isn't even in my house right now I loaned it to a buddy I work with. I'll see if I can find a pic but it was a 150 dollar Dean EVO. When I got it I stuck a fingernail under one of the frets and flipped it out.

Was my first jumbo stainless fret project and I have scars to prove it.

The reason I like it is the new frets. I bought pre curved frets but they were for a strat and about 9" radius. The EVO has a 14" fretboard radius I love the flat feel. I had to press the frets flat before they would curve to 14 from 9 it was a feat.

Straightened the neck, sanded the fretboard (beautiful dark brown) and super glued the already tight frets. Re flattened, crowned and polished.

Tone pros hardware, CTS pots, orange drop caps, and stock Dean 30th anniversary pickups which are nothing short of impressive.

After setting the neck I took it back off, carved multiple grooves in it and the body, and tightbond glued it to the body.

Finished it off with a bone nut I slotted for .009 top E string. Forgot the tuners I bet I used grovers though.

This thing plays like a $700 guitar, and if I sold it right now I could only get like 200 LOL so it is a keeper.

Looking for pictures.

Do you still play? I think I have all but stopped.

I play too, I don't have many projects going on ATM but I do like to strip down and rebuild guitars to my fancy.

My main is a bastard of Fender parts, black Mexican strat body, maple Japanese strat neck and Fender noiseless pickups with custom switch. At one time I had 14 guitars but since I got into wrenching most were sold to free up money for car parts.

I wish I could post some, but I don't have any of my beloved Hohner (yes, the harmonica people) Les Paul Custom copy.  You mentioned you loaned your favorite guitar to a friend...  well, let me tell you a little story...

Spent about 8 years playing guitar in some popular local country bands between 1978 and 1986.  Did some studio time with one of them and pressed a 45 RPM recording off of that (woohoo!).  This guitar was PART OF ME... I know you understand what I mean by that.  After I quit playing in bands, I made the mistake of loaning that guitar to a brother-in-law on my (ex)wife's side.  Well, he pawned it for a pair of Grateful Dead tickets.  By the time I found out about it, the guitar was long gone.  Moral of the story: I'm a dumbass for loaning it to ANYBODY!

When I bought that guitar, it was hanging right next to a Gibson LP Custom.  They looked almost identical.  I spent about 45 minutes alone with each of them and bought the Hohner.  It simply out-played the Gibson at such a high level, I wouldn't have bought the Gibson if you had offered it to me at half price.  God, I miss that guitar!

Just for the record, when I joined that first band, I was a card-carrying rocker.  I sold my soul to a country band because in the late 1970's to mid-1980's you couldn't give away rock 'n' roll around my area.  It was all cowboy boots and yee-haw, if you know what I mean.  Of course, once I got settled into the band, I started pushing some rock stuff out there and got them to liven it up a bit with stuff like Skynard, Bob Seger, 38 Special etc.  So I basically turned them into a Country-Rock group.  They didn't complain because their popularity rose by doing a little bit of everything (including some original material).

I haven't touched a six string in about two years.  Cameron talked me into buying a really nice Martin 12 string and it sits in the stand next to my recliner in the living room.  I will pick it up and mess around with it for a few minutes most evenings.  In addition to the Martin, we have an Epiphone six string flat top (currently without strings) and the Floyd Rose Strat.  Come to think of it, I haven't seen the Strat in a couple of years or more, although I did see the case in Cameron's man cave the other day, and I assume the Strat is still in there. LOL

When I get some time, I will snap a pic of the Strat and the Martin.  There's just something depressing about a guitar without strings...

@Garfield: Sorry buddy, somehow missed your post. So you mostly go for Fender style guitars or??? Most I ever had at one time was 6... and the wife (the first one) was constantly bitching about me having "WAAAYY too many". Wife number two would say "you should buy yourself another guitar, sweetie". LOL I really enjoyed buying old Les Paul copies and rebuilding them. Ah, but that was long, long ago...

This one is on my "must finish" list. But I intend on using the SH13 I have in there.

Have you ever played through a SH13? I know it's a dime pickup but it gives a perfect VH2 sound also.

SH13; I don't even know what that is, other than it's a model of pickup. All my experience with rebuilding guitars used "standard" parts. DiMarzio brand... humbuckers and super distortions. Nothing special. Grover tuning keys and micro-adjust tuning bridges. I would refinish them with automotive acrylic lacquer... hand-rubbed to a mirror finish. I refinished my Hohner after a freak accident resulting in a broken neck. I repaired it with epoxy and painted it Chrysler Cordoba black polychrome. Man, did that thing catch the stage lights after that! :)

I have forgotten most of what I knew... comes from 30+ years with little to no involvement. Cameron is the only reason I mess with them at all. He got interested in learning to play and I showed him some things. When he applies himself, he shows promise, but he loses interest too quickly...

A Seymour Duncan SH13 is a blade pickup, similar to the old Bill Lawrence blade pickups that were popular back when the super distortions and duncan "invaders" were popular. The invader sounded like a turd wrapped in a wash cloth but they sold a bazillion of them on looks alone.

I worked on an ancient Univox Ripper that I restored to stock, it had a super distortion when I started on it. The same guy had an epiphone SG so I put it in there. Still to this day an awesome sounding pickup I never had a chance to buy one but played with a few.

The ripper restore was a 2 year project finding stock pickups for that was a chore. I can't find the pictures unfortunately.

Speaking of pics, I attempted to take a few of the Martin 12 string and the Strat to post here. Unfortunately, my POS iPhone combined with my total lack of photographic talent yielded pathetic results. Cameron said he would bail me out tomorrow and take some for me. :D

Okay, wifey and I were out a little while today so Cameron grabbed the guitars and did some "creative" photography for me.  Here is the Martin 12-String and the Strat:

It's hard to tell in the pic, but the Strat is a medium blue tiger strip, edged in black.

The entire guitar is just like Fender shipped it. I have don't nothing other than put strings on it occasionally. I just noticed that the capo is clamped on the top of the Martin. That is where I store it... Cameron didn't take it off for the pics.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul standard that I like a lot too, I upgraded all the electronics and hardware and it plays quite nicely. But at heart I'm a Strat guy.

The nicest guitar I have ever played was a 70s Greco Les Paul copy however... could not get the guy to sell but damn it was like butter.

That sounds like my Hohner Les Paul Custom copy. There was just something about that guitar that was almost spiritual when I played it. Will never find one like that again.

I've own that Strat for over 20 years. Had a musician friend that was getting into computers and he needed a good color display. I happened to have a new one still in the box (14" SVGA). He traded me that Strat straight up even for the display. Best deal I ever made!
