Gasoline nowadays doesn't varnish up like it did back in the 70s and prior.  The most I would be concerned with would be moisture in the tank from condensation.  You can probably get by with the old gas, but if you want to be sure, drain it out and replace the filter.  Me? I would probably drop 5 gallons of premium in to "freshen" the old stuff and run it till almost empty, then fill it back up with regular.  Your mileage may vary...

Well it is always safe to do that but it would depend. If it had just a little gas when you parked it it would actually be worse than if it was full.

Climate has a lot to do with it also, moisture in the air. You could empty it and change the filter, it might mess up on you a week later. You could leave it like it is and it might just keep going.

Knowing all that it would certainly be less work to drive it up to a gas station, fill it up the rest of the way and drive through a tank full (about 4 days for most rangers if you work daily) see what happens.

Well it's got about 3/4 of a tank and I'm in south Mississippi. I had just filled up the day before it went out.

Also would old gas produce a weird smell as it burned?

A little. It did in my weed whip anyway. I bought a Stihl weed whip from a guy that had it in storage for 2 years. Said I could have the gas can too if I want so I took it.

Got home, it fired right up.

That was 2 years ago. I'm still using the gas out of the can and it smells funny (funnier than mixed gas usually smells and is darker). As of late fall because of strangely warm weather I fired it up, starts no problem and still runs good.

Disclaimer: your results may vary.

One thing I NEVER do and got burned on it is buy an old vehicle and put fuel system cleaner in the tank. It knocks every piece of varnish off the side of the tank that has been there 20 years, you will go through multiple fuel filters before giving up when it eventually clogs the injectors. I know this sounds anti establishment but this is from experience only.

Mississippi... pretty humid down there, isn't it?  Given that bit of information, it may be wise to just drain it, replace the filter and give it some fresh Go Juice.  You could use the old fuel for lawn mowers, weed trimmers and molotov cocktails... oh wait! :-)

I had actually already started taking the bed off last night cuz I was leaning toward a full drain and I guess I go ahead with it. It might sound like a waste but I may buy a second filter also and replace the first new one after 2 or 3 full tank cycles just so I'm good. I appreciate the help and didn't mean to hijack this thread for a bit. Didn't want to make a new thread elsewhere just for this lol

Sounds like you have a plan.  The second filter isn't a bad idea.  The more you protect the injectors, the happier your engine will be!

Got the Woofer grille, was suppose to come along with a set of 6.75" round speaker baffles, the silicon sleeve to protect the speakers from water damage.

So a little longer wait for the Audio System.

Have everything else, calling to set up a date and maybe the shop has some of the Baffles I want.

No tunes... $ucks !

Old gas should not be used in any small engines.
Newer small engines should only use Super (Hi-Test) over 92 Octane, 87 min.
Old gas can be used for cleaning parts, other than that throw it out... !

Gas isn't what it used to be !

If you have 100% gas you are better off. I have had to replace the carburetor on my chainsaw, lawnmower, tiller, pressure washer, and Corvette due to the alcohol in the fuel. It eats away at the gaskets and sluges out worse than 100% gas. I have found 100% gas to last 6 months before tuning to varnish. Three months tops with 10% alcohol.

I also get better fuel mileage with pure gas.  My Harley will get better fuel mileage with 90 octane pure gas than it will with 93 alcohol blend and it will accelerate better and get better fuel mileage.

Wish I had a JY at my disposal, nothin for over 100 miles from me, funny how that is !   You really can't have a vehicle in your yard around here, except where I live there is a lot less traffic.

"r/s rear door" = ?

"3G Alternator" = ?

I read this and thought I understood but then I started thinking I don't know for sure what these part actually are ?
I can guess r/s = rear seat version of the back door and the 3G = no idea.

Thk / Have a good one !

Scrambler82, r/s rear door = my Ranger is an Extd Cab 4 door & my r/s rear door is rotting out for the second time.

3G Alternator = 3rd generation Ford alternator I purchased as a upgrade to the charging system for my 69 Mustang.

Totally random and off the thread subject, but here is something I keep in my truck:  This is a business card that I can give a fellow Ranger owner to introduce him to the forum (I changed all the info to protect me from spammers).  I also have some that have my insurance information in the event I tangle fenders with another motorist.  If anyone wants a copy of the MS Publisher template file, PM me and I will send it to you.

Got the T/C and the NV4500 off the 5.0W.
Bell-housing, clutch and flywheel tomorrow.
Pulling the heads and oil pan too, to see what is what inside.

Dropped the 03 Red EDGE at the Audio Shop this AM.
Just can't seem to get everything done, so I figured better to get it done, than wish I had it done !
Two to three days and I should be listening to tunes on the Apply Play... AND hoping Waze works good.

I think I got better mpg with the older gas, the most recent changes appear to take it away... to me !

I now if I leave the new gas standing for a while waiting for the gas to grow over the winter months, I get a funny smell out of the container, it's like it has spoiler !

I can remember when the newer gas came out, EVERYONE seemed to have a problem.

I think I would be happier back a few changes in the gas content.   It still clean parts well enough to keep the unused stuff for a little while.

I'm not into 17" wheels but your truck looks good, I kind-of like the low look.

Wouldn't work here where I live, the rain rutted road, but Nice !

The '03 Red EDGE is back in the barn, audio system is nice, but needs my attention to setup the speakers byway; the shop setup a Preset for a measured speaker system, I like a little more bass and a little more in the rear fill.
Everyone is different, if I can save the Preset !
We have the Grand Kids during the day for at least the next two weeks, Schools shut down, parents need to work, grand parents step in !
My grand kids love school... RIGHT NOW, and they say they understand the reason for no school but I'm sure there is confusion.
This will be something to remember, a memory but maybe not a good one !
After programing the new audio system I will be doing the mirror swap... again the only part that bothers me is the removal of the old glass; shouldn't be hard according to the Muth Co How-Tos, but it still bugs me.
