Well it is always safe to do that but it would depend. If it had just a little gas when you parked it it would actually be worse than if it was full. Climate has a lot to do with it also, moisture in the air. You could empty it and change the filter, it might mess up on you a week later. You could leave it like it is and it might just keep going. Knowing all that it would certainly be less work to drive it up to a gas station, fill it up the rest of the way and drive through a tank full (about 4 days for most rangers if you work daily) see what happens.
