Just asking but why did you get the Trick Flow Street Heads ported ?

Are you going to race this truck ?

You said the cylinders looked good, how was the top edge of the cylinders, some engines form a groove at the top, you need to watch it.

I had them ported to free up some more power without adding gas to the fire , which creates more heat. It will be very close to 350 to the tire if not.a tad over. Just a number I wanted and it should be easy.
Race it? Ehh... I will get a timeslip or two. But no, its not a race truck. Daily driver, travel truck with ac.  If I like how the truck.feels qith the v8, Ill build a blown 331 for it. Ive had several blown mustangs over the years, street cars. Last one did 520 to the rear and got 18 mpg on the highway.

On the  ring at the top of the cyl's. Yes this motor had the carbon ring. I cleaned them up.  Thanks for the extra eyes and opinion.

OK on not racing it... the thing with porting for a street engine is not always the best idea.   The Trick Flow Street Heads are build to keep the gases atomized for better combustion, porting gets them too smooth, not enough turbulence to keep the Oxygen and gas combines as well as before porting, so it will be interesting to see how these heads work out; racing and tuboized engine are another story.
If I was building right now for the street I would stick to a 327 cu in engine, a 331 kit but stock bore, I would love to see one completed, there is a gy building one now on one of the Ranger Sites, we will see !
You have a plan and you are working towards it... !

Waiting to see it completed !

Good Luck !

I've been drag racing a lonnng time and on a good street port,  NA engine,  its been good for  25-40 hp depending on compression  and cam of course.   Im.trying to get away from the "racing" side of things now. Im 48 years young, and to be honest It's just to expensive and tired of working on the hotrods all the time. So now just drive them normal.and act a fool  sometimes..lol
I got into Racing Harleys thinking it would be cheaper..ehh... its easier to work on them but cheeper..not at all!  Cheaper thrills no doubt!

Baggers are not that great for racing.  :-)

I have a 96 XL1200S that has been punched out to 88" running worked Lightening heads, N8 cams, S&S Super E, 11:1 compression, and Hooker 2:1. It does about 105mph in the eighth mile with my fatass on it. It does not like pump gas.

I also have an 06 E-Glide that has a mild S&S cam that is setup for the long ride with creature comforts. It is my daily driver.

Oh yeah.. I know these heavy baggers aren't meant for racing..but I still give her hell..lol.
Definitely love it on the highway. Its perfect. Its the only thing I've ever bought myself brand new. The wife got all the new stuff aandI had the junkers..🤣🤣🤣
I've got a 98 Dyna FXDS convertible I restored..  10.5:1, Hillside cycles ported stage 2 heads, Dyna 2000I ignition, 1 1/2 open drag pipes, Primo 3 inch open belt drive, 14 inch Pist Apes. Ect ect.. it WILL move. Finished it about 3 years ago and put about 3500 miles on it. Haven't had it at the track yet, but My brothers Vrod has seen the tail lights plenty of times..😎☕
I actually have it to my 18 year old son for graduation.  He doesn't know how to ride and I honestly dont think he has any interest in it. Thats fine with me. I've asked him several times lets go to the parking lot and get some hot laps in on your bike..its to hot..Im going over to so and so.. ya know, intimidating I suppose. He may one day decide to ride..but again, if he doesn't, that's OK too.
I think it will run deep into the 11's because a stock vrod runs what..11:60_11:70's?
One of my other brothers runs nothing but sportsters... they are very quick little bikes!! Definitely can not be sleeping on the line when we get out here playing around.. Ill be seeing tailights..lmao!!

I too, at 70+ have decided not to work on anything any more, but I will always have the rubber and nitro smells in my blood, you can't just stop drag racing or Hot Rodding.

I was just wondering, what and how kind of thing, I always like to hear why someone does something.

When I was working, over 12 year ago, and the Boss would ask me to do a project, I always asked WHY !    He used to get pissed and say just do it, the problem being you can't do it right if you don't know the end result.

Thanks for the answers to my question !

all right I'm going to make a simple thread "how to wire up 5.0 explorer ac into ranger" I will try to get this thread built by the end of this weekend.
You are the third person to ask me how I wire up 5.0 AC into ranger this month!! Its too hard to explain without pictures and a thread, I know I tried and Im pretty sure there are people out there now who want me dead for confusing them waaaaaaay too much
:)
Battle on!
Hope you get your heads!!!!!!

Picked up the heads yesterday.. they appear to be good.
 Had them stage 2 ported.
Now, to get them on, measure for the pushrods..
Then I have to cut a notch in both heads AND notch or ding the headers. The torque monster headers qill not just bolt on the Twisted wedge heads..

That's right!! they need some notching to fit correctly
Each time this comes up I am reminded of the work needed to fit the TMH to different heads
I took some small chunks out of our ATK engine/heads to clear the TMH conversion headers, I believe the notch was needed on the drivers side where the two piece port for cyl 5 goes together
Everything else cleared even with tall aluminum valve covers and a 1" intake spacer

Got the notching done.. I had to clearance both sides..
Now..Ill drop the headers off next week and have them ceramic coated..get the pushrods ordered..shouldn't be long now... down hill I hope..lol
First pic is driver side.. like 410 said..ots where the coloctor for number primary comes together.  I "may" just get rid of that joint..dont see the purpose.
Anyone have any idea why no.1 primary is two peice?

I've never owned a set but have been reading about them since they were first introduced. Back when you actually had to read hot rod magazines and ad magazines.

Best story I got was you could leave it off and drop the engine in the explorer easier with headers on.

I heard a second story that if the engine is installed it makes it easier to put the back side on first then the little sub tube.

Then I have heard the horizontal flange is VERY difficult to tighten with the engine in.

So I have no idea but I bet it becomes evident when you put them on. All the copies have the same setup so there must be a valid reason, you wouldn't continually copy a mistake would you?

the two piece design is for installing the headers with the engine in the explorer........ I am not sure if I have ever used it. Meaning I always have the header completely together before installing to the engine
Keep up the good work!

Here is the TMH install info for a regular stock engine bay
https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/torque-monster-headers-installation-writeup-and-review.129083/

tight fit

Sometimes you have to get all the pieces in place, then the cyl 5 manifold gets bolted to the main header loosely, then the header is put to the engine block loosely then finally #5 flange is tightened down.
