I've seen much worse bumper mounts. It is rotted starting after the shackle mount holes on the inside. Both holes for the bumper are there and in tact.

I even found a timing belt cover I had one left over from the first green truck I bought. Wish I would have had the brains to save the exhaust the pumpkin could use an entire exhaust. Looks like he tried to fix it by welding fence posts in. It isn't loud but is so back yard and crooked.

In case anybody doesn't know the original chapter, about 6 years ago I bought a 2000 Ranger (dubbed gherkin) green short cab short bed 2wd for this V8 swap I've been working on since.

It was born with a 2.5, the owner put a head gasket on it and it locked up a couple miles after. It was partially disassembled, but had been maintained except for the smoked out interior. Was his wifes truck.

Drove it most of the day. Should have saved the tow dolly fee it would have made it home just fine. I think.
The slave cyl. did not lose one drop of fluid.
It is good even at 80MPH, smoothest one I have ever driven.
I drove it through the car wash. The accumulated dirt did not even budge. An associate saw me wiping crud in the vacuum stalls and asked:
"Did you go through the wash?"
Me: Yes
"Which wash did you get?"
Me: The big one
She felt sorry for me and said I could drive it through again! I took some time and emulsified the crud then did just that. Took it for the highway trip.
About a half hour later I was on an off ramp and realized because of the distraction with the double car wash I had neglected to put the temp plate back on. In Ohio temp plates are cardboard so I removed it for the wash.
I pulled in to a gas station to put it on and noticed one of those little strips on the back of the cab corner was evidently removed by the car wash.
I went back, they had it! Luck.

Eval:
Rear brake line wasted, need to replace and bleed. Clutch is just fine though the trans itself goes in to gears a little harder than it should. I'm going to check for lube and if it isn't fresh drain the old and replace. I need to re attach the little upper cab corner strip.
The thing runs like a top so far, though at one point I thought it felt like it was powerless for 3 seconds. Not a stalling just not enough acceleration per applied throttle. Maybe position sensor IDK. I'm going to keep it my daily driver for a month or until something shows itself.

Note: has no CEL but does have ABS/BRAKE light on as one would expect. I'm going to give it a couple days and hook forscan to it maybe the TPS will show a little weirdness.

Overall I could sell it right now for twice what I bought it for just washing it.

I don't know, I haven't opened up a standard in years but I would if I have to. I have no fear LOL.

Do they have "synchro rings" like they used to? Last one I worked on was a muncie rock crusher out of a vette, I bought it to put in a Pontiac Astre, which is basically a Vega.

Had a 350 truck motor 4 bolt mains and a the rock crusher sitting by the Astre, then my parents moved. Like an idiot I followed them and sold it.

Dang memory lane. My Dad bought the Astre for me, owner had grafted a 231 V6 out of a skylark and never finished it. Boy did I finish it! Ripped control arm mounts right out of the frame. After extensive welding, Ended up with traction bars/coil over helper shocks/welded spider gears. Thing was wicked fast with the V6.

The friend I sold it to pulled the V6 that I had almost fried, and figured out that the olds rocket 350 was a 231 with 2 more cylinders. The 350 bolted to the trans and right up to the engine mounts. I left town before he finished it and didn't look back. I doubt if he did, he had 2 more projects... a chevette with a V8 and a 500CI cadillac hearse. Way off topic now, the hearse he was planning on putting a 4WD frame on and had already adapted the AC chamber for a beer cooler.

That brings back memories. While I was in my initial military training I picked up a 77 Olds Starfire that had a V6 engine that was on it's last legs. The engine lasted long enough for a trip to a junk yard where I bought a  Pontiac SB out of an early 70's station wagon. I mated it to the 4 speed in the Starfire. Everything bolted up except for the exhaust. I had a guy in school with me who had a dad that had a custom interior shop in SoCal and he got me new custom seat covers, dash, and carpet at a third of what OEM replacement would have cost.

I learned a lot on that car - interior, body work, paint, suspension, converting open rear to LS, setting gear lash, and dialing in a tune on a Pontiac engine. I changed the gear ratio in that car from 4:10 down to 2:73 and everything in between looking for good street performance while getting what I thought was decent fuel mileage. I ended up with a 3:40. Stupid quick eventually and got mid 20's highway mileage but no A/C so I got rid of it when I got orders to be stationed in Florida.

the shifter bushings in the M5OD are nylon rings the actual shifter arm rests on....they are like $12 and take about 15 minutes to install right through the shifter boot
You remove the 3 torx bolts holding shifter down, press a metal pin out with pliers, remove upper bushing, shifter arm, metal washer and lower bushing....replace

The shifter will get really sloppy and hard to find the correct gear with worn bushings...

Any 5 speed I use in any build gets new bushings for the shifter arm, you would not believe the difference it can make

Ready to sell, not going to do anything else.
Repaired:

New rear brake line new all the way to the rubber hose.
New rear brake line from splitter to right wheel cyl.
Replaced timing belt cover.
Replaced EGR pressure feedback sensor.
Replaced reverse light switch in trans.
Replaced 3rd brake light bulb
Lubed clutch safety switch, was sticking and could start in gear.
Cleaned the living crap out of it
Charged AC
New floor mats.

I could get a bunch for this if the frame was solid. I have to be transparent about the rusted bumper mounts, probably should sell it as a parts truck!
Oh well, starting at 1900 we will see what offers I get.
It would have cost me more than that to have the repairs done at a dealer!

Good luck! In Texas you could list it for 2500 and easily sell it close to that, even with the rust....maybe post it in multiple places?

In the Atlanta market my 04 XLT w/ 135K with shot paint but no rust would bring $3500-4000. If it was 4WD that would add another $1500. Get the same truck below 100K miles and it is up around $6k.

Used trucks go for premium here and usually have more miles than the national average. If I were looking for a used truck I would look at the ads in Florida and Texas and take a ride.

It's just as you said here too. Rangers here are PRICEY. Kinda makes me want to list my Ranger just to see what I could get for it, but I doubt I will. Lola is a good truck. Any updates on the Pumpkin?

Needs a frame before V8, I have both!

Interesting, a guy coming today at 3 to drive it. 5 real buyers lined up so my lowest price I had in my head just got raised 100 or so.

2 people offered 1300 sight unseen. One offered 1100 lol. One of them sent me a nasty text when I pulled the ad!

16 scams ranging from an oregon number offering to send a check to "my mother wants this truck e-mail her at blablabla@gmail.com"

Most of the scams cut and paste the title then send it via e-mail to text. Does anyone really fall for that?

The rust is really bad IMO around the bumper mounts but seems to be average where bed meets cab which is unusual. I was transparent about the rusted mounts and put it in the ad first before the good points. I'm like that.

If the rust was about to snap the thing in the middle I wouldn't have fixed it, would have offed it to my new buddy Tyler that deals in Ranger parts.

I'm hoping I can move this fall/winter to a place I can store some Ranger parts and start a warehouse of my own. I don't want to compete with Tyler I'm thinking we can work together in coordinating prices and carrying different parts. Man I would never retire if I could do Ranger stuff only in any capacity. I'd be like 410 eastern division.

So Pumpkin is gone today one way or another, I passed up a REALLY GOOD deal on a 99 that needed brake lines was a 3.0 4WD red ex cab for 1K, less than 150,000 miles but I only have room in my yard for 1 spare without looking like Fred Sanford. After today I won't pass it up.

On to the next one!
