Big pharma shutdown in that case :) Coverup city, makes a good movie!!
Not so sure about that. Eli Lilly, Merck, and Bristol-Myers research labs that were closed 10 to 15 years ago have had the power turned on in their laboratories in New Jersey in the last couple of months. I don't see them making generics. Those are top 10 pharma companies. They will let the smaller labs and "for hire" bio-techs work the low profit/high volume market. The big money is in having a brand name drug before it can go generic. I worked IT for big pharma before they pulled out. Stupid good money.

My daughter worked for a "for hire" bio-tech for about 5 years. They had no products of their own but could produce many types of medicine from viatemines all the way to processed stem cell drugs that have high 5 figure cost per dosing. And they paid crap to the techs and lower management. She was actively recruited and is now at a top 100 pharma as a supervisor of manufacturing doing the stem cell cancer processes but it is in house technology. Stupid good money and they are increasing their production capacity in other areas.

We had our first employee call in sick this morning. Symptoms are head and stomach ache, and chills. Could be hangover, covid stress, or a bad excuse for a mental health day.

We have been given the option to shelter if we feel the need.

I'm hesitant to join the millions on unemployment and not thrilled to spend that much time with mother... lol

I wont lie, I've had a few panic attacks and the stress of everything has worn me down a lot. Chatting with everyone here has been very helpful at easing my fears!!!

Body aches and a fever in excess of 100.4 are big symptoms.

What going on in New York? Do they have a higher percentage of population of at risk age? If it's been explained I missed it. 5x more deaths than the next highest state (New Jersey). The United States has surpassed china and Italy in total cases and New York has become the epicenter . Whoa...

This virus does not like warm temps of the sunshine....so the Northern states seem to be getting hit worse. Also population DENSITY has everything to do with transmission.
I study people and their comfort zones.....why you ask? Because we study how people stack them selves in elevators. People have whats called a "body ellipse" or the space around you that you are comfortable with others encroaching. In the USA we have a large body ellipse, we do not like to stand shoulder to shoulder.... in places like New York with dense populations that ellipse gets smaller as people get more comfortable around each other (think subway, crowded elevator car). You ever watch the elevator doors close  as somebody is coming.......decided to let it close because there is no more room?
In metropolitan areas people will stuff more people in.
In China they do not mind cramming in until there is really no more space... their body ellipse is much much smaller then ours. In China elevators are physically smaller with smaller entrances and smaller cabs because they do not mind stacking like sardines in there....try that in Texas, not gonna happen...elevator is "full" at like half capacity... in China most cars run at full capacity.
Washington, Ney York some of the virus hot spots....its still cold up here! AZ and Texas not as much warmer and less dense populations

I doubt it has anything to do with sunshine or lack of it. It spreads by people inhaling droplets from people's breath / sneezes / coughs and by people picking it up off of hard surfaces with their hands and transferring it to their face.

NYC has it worst now just like London does because they are international hubs with crowded transport systems, other towns and cities will take longer to spread the virus and it may never get out to the backlands.

Once people have had the virus and recovered it is thought they will be immune from catching again so the opportunities for the virus to spread will decline and once about 60% of the population have immunity they reckon it will die out.

time will tell!

Factor 1: The environment.
In the winter, the outdoor air is colder, and the air is dryer usually both indoors and out. For influenza, it has been elegantly shown in the lab that absolute humidity — the quantity of water vapor in the air — strongly affects flu transmission, with drier conditions being more favorable. Subsequently it has been shown that epidemiological patterns are consistent with this lab data in the US and in Vietnam, among other study sites. Notably the Vietnam study looked at influenza-like illness, without distinguishing influenza from other types of pathogens. This hints that similar mechanisms may be at work for other respiratory viruses, but to my knowledge are no specific studies of the role of humidity for coronaviruses or other respiratory viruses besides flu. Also important: there may be some very humid conditions that also favor flu transmission, especially relevant in the tropics. Still it is safe to say that in temperate countries, dry cold air = favorable conditions for flu transmission. For coronaviruses, the relevance of this factor is unknown. A recent preprint on which I collaborated suggests that transmission is possible in many different climates, and points out that Singapore, for example, which lies nearly on the equator, has had significant transmission. This is one piece of evidence, but as my colleague Dr. Eli Perencevich has pointed out there are many differences between Singapore in February and a temperate zone in summer — different day length, ultraviolet radiation, and other factors that may be important for coronavirus – we simply don't know.

Factor 2: Human behavior.
In the winter humans spend more time indoors with less ventilation and less personal space than outdoors in the summer. In particular, schools are a site of much infectious disease transmission. School terms have been strongly identified as periods of higher transmission for respiratory viruses including those causing chicken pox,  measles, and flu (here and here). The 2009 pandemic flu in the United States was very much decreased during the summer, and then came back rapidly in September.

All I know is this... https://infection2020.com/

In the US, you take the amount of people infected and divide by the deaths.. its just under 1%

Its affected 104K as of the time of this post, 1717 Deaths, 845 recoveries.

H1N1 Swine flu affected 60M people with just over 12K deaths in 2012 on the previous administrations watch.. But add in MERS, SARS, Bird Flu, Avian Flu.. All killed more people than this. Drunk drivers kill more than this specific "Virus" world wide to be facetious.

NOTHING like whats happened in the last week has EVER been proposed let alone acted on in the manner it has with this.

You can call me absurd, you can call me a NON-believer, you can call me crazy or a conspiracy nut. Meanwhile the aforementioned debt bubbles are all deflating. Meanwhile all of the worlds current currency's are debasing. SOMETHING is afoot and its not as dangerous as you believe it to be with all the hype on MSM or even with the CDC.

Most of you don't trust your government as it is at any other time.., now all of a sudden people get Asthma like flu symptoms and I'm NOT saying there isnt something to be made about Covid-19 however, what i am saying is this BS Social distancing and the amount of shared nonsense to shut down completely Commerce while ONLY the biggest of corporations is able to operate and gain massive bailouts, not to mention the aforementioned link from 410Customs about the added expenditures into the deal in order to get both political parties to "play ball" ....

Seriously?

If this isnt a clown show unfolding as a SNL skit to blindly not see the blatant snow job the American people are getting from politicians and all of it's Alphabet agencies.  Personally, I think we should as Americans take heed to enforce treason laws and gather the first 535+445+100+19 people of Congress, House of Representatives, Senators, and current administration and start trails and practicing knots.

Virus or not, this shutdown of the world is an world-based economic reset.. the virus crap is but a distraction. Willing to bet a testicle on it

There's a video out there, Bill Gates is in it and openly admits that "most people will get Covid-19, and not have any real symptoms or have anything more than flu like symptoms" 5 mins later hes saying something more along the lines of how they dont want to have people with strong immune systems creating anti-bodies to Covid-19, they want to make everyone take a Vaccine.

There is Hearsay that they would possibly make it so if you didnt have vaccines up to date, it could prevent you from open traveling, including that of getting a passport, drivers license.. etc..

The virus is real, the action and fear and world wide economic destruction is far worse and longer lasting than the virus will ever get.
The reset theory is solid in a lot of ways, what is happening right now will set the pace for everything in the future. Our kids will remember but future grand-kids will never know a grocery aisle without a guard shield between the customer and the customer service. Smaller brick and mortar shops will just shut down completely, large companies will write it off and go to a larger online delivery base following Amazon.
International travel will be forever different. You thought the TSA was a grip after 911 hold on to your pants.

Anyone remember Travolta in the boy in a plastic bubble? We will be the world in a plastic bubble.

If anything good comes out of this it will be that commuting to work will become a thing of the past for many office workers because it is now proven that the  work can be done remotely. That should save a chunk of pollution for the earth.

The virus has accelerated change in a few weeks that was dragging its heels for decades.

There are always risks to life out there - you either accept them and get on with life or try to avoid them but I think this should be a personal decision unless by doing so would threaten the lives of others.

It has also shown that centralisation of resources may be a good thing for economy but it is a bad thing for rapid response in crisis - ditto the just in time manufacturing, what happens when there is no time?

The UK govt's paring back of resources in the name of efficiency has now led to a lack of resilience and crisis - yes, having unused hospital beds in normal times and too many medical staff may be seen as wasteful but look at the cost of trying to make good the shortfall now.

Trouble is that many people in power know the cost of everything and the value of nothing....

I remember the days when supermarkets were unknown and every shop you went into you were served from behind a counter and not allowed to touch the stock. Banks and post offices had cashiers behind glass screens. I disagree Jim, I think it is the days of the big boys that will end in favour of the corner store serving the immediate locality - much easier to lock down if needed.

The pendulum swings back - nothing unusual in that.

Lol - just looked up TSA as I didn't know what it was - amongst other things the armed air marshals - they get very stroppy when the UK border force take away their guns on landing in the UK :-)

BUT you do not know the actual number of people infected currently nor the number of people who have had it and recovered. Neither do you know if the deaths were as a result of the virus or other causes. So any calculation is a waste of time - I doubt we will ever know the actual figures, it doesn't really matter, the deaths are real and have the same impact no matter what the cause.

The problem is the scaremongering and fake news that spreads even faster than the virus, people panic because someone on twitter says he can't wipe his bum.

In Washington they just approved MANDITORY SEX ED for all grades starting in KINDERGARTEN!!!!!!!!!!! hmmmmmm is it really essential that we get together and vote that through right now??
While the whole world is reading virus news these things slip through.......

True or not, conspiracy or not, these things are happening.......you are SMART to think outside the box and see this for what it really is (or isn't) at least your eyes are OPEN to the possibilities

Live in FEAR!!!!!! ooooh your neighbor might be infected, tackle him if he gets too many preps!!
It's working.....and quickly, sheeple are lining up for it...

Teach my 4 year old about gender choices and comprehensive sex ed? WHAT THE FU&*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that makes me mad
so glad to be in Idaho.... for now, until they push us out of the way here too...

Hope all of you are doing ok.

Me, I've got TP, turns out 30 rolls, who knew !  Then there's the shower.

I don't reload but I have over 2000 rounds of .223, three or four ammo boxes of 9mm, and the wife has some a supply for her hand gun and rifle... !

We don't have any more kids living home, thank God, but we have grand children we used to see daily, and now they are home for the term, driving their mom and dad crazy.

Movies, there are a lot of them out there, some older ones are a little better in plot but the graphics of the newer ones make a big difference in picture quality and the way things transpire.

I know I should be I haven't been trying to keep up with all this BS, interesting about starting here in the US, maybe this is the governments way of reducing the overall debt and not have to repay the S/S System.  What the Republicans and the Democrats are doing doesn't seem to matter much anymore, just hoping the economy stays in place and we all don't lose everything.

God Bless all !

My buddy at 7/11 makes the best coffee!!! I told him I'd be sheltering and wouldnt see him for 2weeks. He said "WHAT ABOUT ME!!!BROTHER!!"" Hes funny. I told him his boss obviously cares about his saftey. The owner is great. I've been going here for 20 years. They get anything I want. The owner asks me to evaluate any new hires but he always finds the best guys. I'm gonna miss my coffee.

Possibly... but I have to get the brakes done on the f250 first. The shop that did it last used the cheapest parts they could. I think I got about 9months on these. Lol. Going to get FoMoCo parts this time.... better mechanic at the cheap place, better parts at the other.

If population density is part of the problem, how come India, mexico, and a lot of the neighboring countries to china have so few cases and deaths. India has less than 1k cases and only 20 deaths.

Add up the asian countries surrounding China like, assuming  factors like dense population, close proximity and travelers to china and it doesn't make much sense.

                    Cases         Deaths
Hong Kong   561,                  4
Japan          1652,                53
Vietnam        174,                  0
Cambodia       99,                  0
laos                    6,                  0
Thailand      1245,                 6
Singapore     802,                  2
Taiwan          283,                  2
Philippines 1075,                68
Mongoli           12,                  0

There are also a lot of middle east and eastern European countries that are not having an overwhelming number of cases at the time of this post.....

I am still trying to wrap my head around the numbers. Last year there were roughly 500,000 hospitalized flu victims and we had enough hospital beds.  As of yesterday afternoon the CDC reported total cases at 85,356 and we don't have enough hospital beds?

I know it is out there but, per the CDC, the Flu is more contagious and more deadly. My biggest problem right now is that the pollen count was 6881 this morning and I have trouble breathing when it get above 100.

They will tell you "not enough testing" we need more tests
well....
Most people who get it have light symptoms and recover quickly
If you get tested and get a + you get quarantined at home
So why get tested?
If you get tested this week are you going to get tested next week too? I mean how can you test everyone every time they leave their home?

In areas with tons of testing = high number of confirmed cases
In areas where people are like screw that I am not getting tested (North Idaho), not alot of cases....that does not mean it is not here.
That's the theory anyways

I am like everyone else, I only take tid bits of all the info and compile my own opinion and thoughts about what is happening and where it is and how to protect against it.
Can be a helpless feeling when you have elder parents and young children
Similar feeling if you spend the day reading the news about plague or the Flu pandemics.....actually
Viruses just plain suck
and in this day and age we have a global marketplace with a global economy....
