I doubt it has anything to do with sunshine or lack of it. It spreads by people inhaling droplets from people's breath / sneezes / coughs and by people picking it up off of hard surfaces with their hands and transferring it to their face.

NYC has it worst now just like London does because they are international hubs with crowded transport systems, other towns and cities will take longer to spread the virus and it may never get out to the backlands.

Once people have had the virus and recovered it is thought they will be immune from catching again so the opportunities for the virus to spread will decline and once about 60% of the population have immunity they reckon it will die out.
