 I am on my second one in 30 years. My brother-in-law put a 300BLK through the guts of my first one about 10 years back when I built him an AR-300BLK pistol. He replaced it with a cheaper Caldwell Chronograph II. It does a decent job but works best on overcast days. 

Developing a load without a chrony is guesswork. A load can be developed but it is best to stay on the light end of a recommended load.

 I got both the Ebony Grips, the S&A Magwell installed, waiting for the Right-Side Mag Release; also replaced the Main Spring with a 19 lb..

The Right-Side Mag Release is back ordered, I'm on the list but have to wait for the next production run.

It is an add-on to the bottom of the Grip area; it has a tapered entrance for the magazine to slide in easier; no bump stops !    Faster Mag change !

 The type of Magwell I used, the S&A Version, (Not my picture), the piece at the bottom of the Grips.
This one uses a Mainspring Housing too as part of the support.  
I purchased a new 19 lb. mainspring, and the ends along with a new locking pin; if I want to I can remove the S&A setup and just plug in the original Housing.

The grips get a squared off look too, cleans them up. (purchased separately)

Sometimes you need to dress up the opening, alignment isn't always the best but the S&A seems to be good.

Note:  Not my gun !


This is the S&A Magwell/Mainspring Housing !
The checkering, is finger than it looks here, you almost can't feel it !

 I placed a magazine order back in February (Valentine day sale) for a couple of 32 round Glock 9mm and 3 20-round Glock 10mm magazines. I got a couple of emails in February and one in March saying they were slammed and there would be delays. I forgot about it until I opened the box today. 

Range day tomorrow.

This is for the AR-9. It is the only 9mm that I have that takes Glock magazines. I will need to rectify that someday.

The 20 round 10mm are going to be a challenge. I have been shooting 10 rounds in the 15 round mags and after two or three I am ready to take a break from the 10mm. It has a lot more kick than my 45GAP or 357MAG.  What I find interesting I am shooting 180gr 10mm @ 1118fps and 185gr 45GAP @ 1134fps and the 10mm has much more kick than the 45GAP. I can shoot 45GAP 185gr for 10 10-round mags with little effect on me. After 5 mags of 10 rounds of 180gr 10mm and I have had enough and I can feel it the rest of the day.

 Yeah, I've never pulled the trigger on a 10mm, but I've read and heard that they sort of kick like a mule.  10mm doesn't really excite me enough to want to buy one.  Just happy with my 9mm P-07... fits me like a glove.

 The first 10mm I shot was a high end 1911 that my dad had in the early 80's. He handed me the gun with a magazine and told me to try it out. One shot, it felt like the palm of my hand was on fire. I cleared it and handed it back as he was telling me about 10mm. After that every time I was offered to shoot a 10 I passed. In the late 80's Dad had another 10mm he wanted me to try. It was a Colt Delta Elite that he had fine tuned. I was able to shoot a magazine before I had enough. I still didn't care for 10mm.

I forgot about 10mm til about 2008 where a buddy and I were out shooting our hand cannons. I had my 44MAG and he had a 454 Casull. I did the one shot thing with his 454 as well before I swore off of it. Jim was able to finish off the other 4 shots that were loaded. My 44Mag seamed like a cap gun next to the 454 and we shot a couple of sets. As things were winding down Jim handed me a Glock. It was a large frame and I thought it was a 45ACP. It had a little kick but nothing too bad. He told me it was a 10mm. I tried a few other plastic 10's over the next decade and picked up a Glock 20 in 10mm earlier this year. 

The 10mm if loaded to the top end is roughly equivalent to a 41 Magnum.  The low end 10mm loads are equivalent to 45ACP and the mid-range is equivalent to 45ACP+P/45GAP. It does kick more than the 45GAP but the smaller grip of the GAP permits better control and that may be the difference. The other plus to the 10mm is that in standard configuration it is a 15+1 gun.

 My first 9mm was an XD9... didn't know what I wanted for my first pistol so I tried different ones that my shooting buddies had.

I purchased the XD9, but I'm limited to 10 rounds.

I have tried the 45, both in Vietnam and locally, a 40 cal., even a 380 and a 50... didn't like any of them, except the 9mm, that is why my 1911 is a 9mm.

I have never tried a 10mm will have to ask around see if any of my friends have one.

 Even though the 1911 was designed for the 45ACP it shines with the 38Super and 9mm. 

My dad was a 1911 fanatic. During the 70's through the mid 80's I was exposed to almost every brand and caliber available in the 1911 format. My biggest lessons were that the heavy hitters like the 10mm, 45ACP, 9x25 Dillon, .40S&W, .41 JDJ, .455 Webley, .41 Avenger, 38 Casull, .45 Super, and . 50GI would all be of limited use because they hurt if you fired it too much. The other thing was the Kimber, Dan Wesson, Wilson, Baer, and Night Hawk may bill themselves as "ultimate" 1911's it is not too hard to upgrade a REI to the same level for half the price. The problem with upgrading a REI (or any other 1911) is that it is still worth REI prices. The other issue with a high end 1911 is that any small blemish in the finish can knock hundred's of dollars of value off of it.

With my Colt Government model any holster wear is acceptable patina and even a minor scratch that will not affect the value much.

 My son is a 1911 enthusiast.  He has two at the moment, a Remington R1 (first pistol he bought and could afford) and a Kimber Raptor, both in .45ACP.  Honestly, I was never a 1911 fan until he got the Kimber.  That is such a smooth operating piece and the finish is awesome.  Then he purchased a Savoy Leather custom holster for it.  The combination is pure beauty... it is his "Sunday goin' to meetin' " carry gun.  He shoots the thing like the bullets have radar built in.  He plans to purchase another Kimber sometime in the very near future, the TLE II, I believe.  That will become his new EDC.

 Kimber makes a pretty gun. Back when ownership changed they also changed their internal parts process which resulted in less than perfect MIM internal parts. It took them about 2 years to straiten that out but diehards still swap out the internal with the Wilson Combat parts which are also MIM produced.

I have considered getting a Micro-9 but talk myself out of it as the weight of a loaded Micro-9 is about the same as a full size Glock. Gun size is unimportant to me.

 Gun size *IS* important to me.  I could never carry a 1911, Sig P320 M17 or a Beretta 92.  Just too much to shove inside my pants (IWB holster).  I fell in love with the CZ P-07 due to both overall size and the way it fit my hands.  I can shoot the full size pistols and enjoy them, just not as a carry gun.

 For me the 1911, Sig P320, Beretta 92, and full size Glock are all too big IWB carry unless they are in the small of my back.  I usually wear a shirt over a tee shirt where I have a close fit OWB holster at the 4 o'clock position. Of the 1911, Sig P320, or Beretta 92 the Sig is the only one I would consider due to the weight of the loaded gun. 

I did the IWB with a Walther PPK and Glock 26. Neither were comfortable  and a bit of a pain to draw. The other thing that bothered me about carrying the Walther is that it was pointed at the family jewels.

 I tried AIWB for a couple of days and the bruising finally faded away.  I carry at roughly the 3 o'clock position as 4 o'clock is a bit far back for me to reach (shoulder issues).  Since Indiana does not care if it is concealed or not, I have considered OWB, which would be better to avoid pinching my tactical love handles when holstering the gun.  I dunno...

 I have a range day planned for tomorrow.  Due to the idiot run on powder (like TP) my scheduled powder delivery is on backorder and I need to work up alternate powder loads on the 45GAP. Both my primary powder and second choice are impossible to find right now and I am out.  I have 5 flights of 45 using a new powder, plus 103 rounds in the 1911 9mm, 114 rounds in the AR-9, and 85 rounds in the 10mm (if my arm holds out).  I have primers and projectiles but I was caught short on powder for 45 and my new 10mm. I also have a two year supply of 9mm range ammo without loading anything.  

This Chinese Flu media induced BS has gotten old. Besides the losses in my retirement account the shortage hysteria caused by the media has pissed me off. Range time will be therapy time.

If I were to CC, I would use a Springfield Armory EMP !  Looking at one as we speak.
A mini 1911, 9mm, narrow fit, overall a good sized weapon for concealed purposes, BUT, I'm thinking I don't need one, a move to AZ or NV would let me open carry the 9mm-1911 and all would be good to go !

As far as shooting the full sized pistols, I have found the 9mm versions of the 1911 is a smooth, reduced kick back, weapon that is a good experience shooting.
My 1911-9mm move like butter, easy smooth action, feels good in my hand, I like it !

 Frustrating day. My Carry Permit expired back in April. Probate Court shut down until May 19 due to Chinese flu. There was a line out the door lat Wednesday. That was the second trip to the courthouse. (I misspelled courthouse and auto correct changed it to outhouse - kind of appropriate).  I went back today and they have now instituted on-line appointments - trip 3.  Each time the county deputy assured me that my expired licences is good for 6 months past the expire date. 

I am hesitant to carry right now til this gets straitened out. My luck is that I will get stopped by a cop that makes Barney Fife look like Elliott Ness where things will go sideways.

#2:  I would get that in writing
#3:  I wouldn't risk it; too much to lose.  Would be just your luck that Elliott Fife would have more than one bullet... LMAO

 The silver lining is I can still legally carry a firearm in the glovebox. In GA your vehicle is an extension of your house.  It is legal to have a gun in the glove box or in a truck behind the seat for concealment. 


On the Carry Permit I have an email that I sent to a Judge and another one to the Clerk of Court requesting an appointment to get a new permit. It will be a daily contact until I get results.

Indiana has similar policies for transporting a firearm.  As for those emails, blow their inbox up! LOL

Just curious: doesn't GA offer a lifetime carry permit?  Indiana does (it costs a bit more), so I opted for that just so I don't have to mess with the process again.
