Maybe im just not enough of a particular brands "fanboy" but a close friend of mine has a 1911 .45 ACP and I think his was a Kimber (may need to verify that) I wasn't all that impressed.. Maybe I'm just not in the know but my Glock, the Sig P320, I like.. I want to get my hands on a VP9 and see what everyones talking about.

Generally I prefer the long gun/shotguns.. I'm honestly new to handguns but pretty confident in my Glock in either 9mm or .40 S&W with either single hand or dbl gripped. Only thing I havent done anything with so far is my weak hand yet. those days are coming..

Only reason I'm looking at a Kimber specifically is that's the only stainless 10mm longslide 1911 I can find that isn't over a grand. If Remington made their R1 Hunter in stainless I'd buy that instead given the success I've had with their R1 base model.

Well, if you've already been pleased by the performances of the R1 series as it is... why would just a stainless slide stop you? Lol , And stainless has its benefits but also can be drawbacks too, just saying. Something about a 4-5lb fullsized handgun that just makes me feel like wearing sweat pants with pockets full of change and the tied too tight drawstring bugging my waist. . Being facetious here but it would seem the small talk about anything out side of the scope of .45 ACP and or general 1911 sounds about as much as the Chevy/Ford/Dodge debate.

I've heard stories of people accidentally killed with a 22 or 380 while someone strung out on some drugs takes an unloaded .45 7 round magazine and was still coming.. I get the preferences thing but just like I tell my Glock friends, there is other stuff that's good too besides the "Glock" brand itself. I think everything has its pros and cons, feel, responses, comfort levels.

My 1911 buddy I spoke of earlier, he can't see past a 1911 for nothing. He never owned nor really shot anything else so when I ask him for a comparison example.. well he's got nothing, no argument, no basis, nada... not saying that's you, just saying that's him. I'm still in a learning mode. But his unexplainable convictions of the 1911 being smithed by Zeus or Odin himself fuels my dis-interest in a 1911 to be honest. It's not a guaranteed man killer in all situations nor is my glock in 9mm or .40 cal exclusively. lots of variables or scenarios that could be visited

EDIT: I am reminded of another buddy, if anyone was riding the dick carousel of 6.5 Creedmoore.. he'd be the proud baby pink Unicorn Pony rider up front rearing on its hind legs. If i have to hear one more story about how the 6.5 Creedmoore can shoot over 1.75 miles away and that I should DUMP any and all 5.56/.223 gear I have to chase down the Creedmoore; I swear to God I am going to tie him to a tree 1.74 miles away and ask him if it even hurt!?!?

That's a good way of saying what i'm thinking.

The 1911 is nice, i like them, but i don't understand why you don't try something else, i won't have more than 2 of the same type, as it makes little to no sense, and you don't get any variety.

The next firearm I build is going to have a twin!

So I'm on the fence about building two more G19; Keep them 9mm with threaded barrels, black, some custom slide work, then I'll have both slides nickle plated or polished out, just night sights, no RMR or Red Dots, and a couple things to make them smooth pulls and a few trinkets to make working on or with them easier...

OR...

Dual MP5's !

Fair enough. I'm wanting a stainless steel pistol specifically, and the Kimber happens to be significantly cheaper than the R1. The one thing I am not pleased with out of the Remington R1s however is the quality of their black oxide finish. It isn't as durable as I'd like it to be. There's significant wear around the front strap on my R1 and a good amount of wear from the short time I carried the pistol. If Remington offered their R1 Hunter in stainless, I'd probably spring for it, but they don't so I'm not. I'd also like to dip into a couple other brands, so there's that too. That being said, I find no compelling reason to go for the Hunter in this case.

I was that way for a little while. I thought the 1911 would be my ultimate carry gun. I was wrong. I quickly realized it's downfalls and elected to go for a more modern platform for a multitude of reasons. For a day at the range though, my Beretta can't beat my 1911. While both are fun to shoot, the 1911 is a treat for me.

The offerings for 10mm pistols are quite limited. I don't have many options (not that I'm in a place to buy one anyhow, but that's beside the point), and the other options that exist don't interest me. My other options are the EAA Witness handguns, which I don't have any interest in due to the unfamiliar name and I find them to not be pleasing to the eye, the 10mm Glock (Never buying a Glock), and the Sig P220 Elite. I mentioned already that I wasn't impressed with it at its price point, and that took it out of the running. All that's left are 1911s, either in a standard 5" or the longslide 6".
Believe it or not, I am interested in acquiring more than just 1911s. Thus far, they happen to be my favorite handgun platform to shoot for fun. Variations are nice to have, there for a few different ones are on my list, including: two stainless R1s to be made into a pair, the Kimber 10mm I mentioned, a blued Colt series 70 with rosewood grips, and an auto ordnance GI model.
The other handguns on my list include: a Desert Eagle, two Smith & Wesson revolvers (686 6" and 29 6.5"), a Makarov in .380 ACP, a Beretta Bobcat, a Beretta 84FS nickel in .380 ACP, a Taylors & Co. Outlaw Legacy .45 Colt revolver, and a Beretta 92FS Brigadier Inox. I haven't mentioned these, except two in the past, because they weren't relevant to the topic at the time.
So no, I'm not against trying other handguns. In a very narrow selection, the 1911 just happened to win my preference.

Understandable...

As a recent topic of interest of my own, Ive been doing hella researching on everything from Anodizing to Cerekote/Durakote and even the black nitride coatings.. They all wear with time, some shorter than others but to me and many others I've found. If your firearm doesn't have any wear or discoloration to it.. you're not using it enough. And ironically they're all close to the same in durability. One thing that "might" separate them is a particular companies process but overall.. all wear similarly.

Im not to fond of throwing my firearms down onto the ground and or sliding them in the dirt so to speak, I guess if I had to or it happened during some SHTF like moment it is what it is. So I get the keeping them looking nice but at the same time, I dont like them looking like chicken-strip rear tires on my bikes either.. lol

Like us, every bruise, scrape, cut, scar, broken bone has a story, and that story is what becomes our character building. Build character with your firearms. :)

This is true, wear builds character. I haven't had my R1 1911 all that long, which is what surprised me on the wear side of things. My Beretta which sees daily handling hasn't even began to wear. Granted, the holster I'm using now is Kydex and not leather.

I'm wanting to have something cerakoted. What I'd really like to have is a 92A1 or even an M9A3 in an inox color, but Beretta doesn't make such an animal unfortunately. I've been tossing around the idea of buying either another 92A1 or the M9A3 and sending it to be cerakoted to kind of mimic the inox color. Not sure what I'm going to do with the R1 at this point.

I saw this 92FS on the cerakote gallery and I'm really digging it. My R1 might wind up with a custom job like this.

So out of a 500 round brick of 9mm, I had 12 rounds that just didn't fire despite the firing pin striking the primer.

What do you do with your rounds that don't fire? Is there a particular way to dispose of these differently or can I just toss it in with the rest of the brass I plan on doing my own reloads with and forget about it until then?

I have a handful of random rounds like that, they're in a draw right now but I have a bullet puller (cheap) and plan to pull them apart that way.

I learned today that apparently 'gun dreams' are a fairly common thing, specifically using your defensive handgun in your dream to defend yourself. Apparently there are other weirdos like me! Scary, isn't it?

When I used to carry my 1911, I had these dreams frequently. The pistol would always fail to fire no matter what I did. Those dreams stopped when I switched to my 92A1.

The sling swivel roll pin on my brownells repro A1 stock (My Windham) worked it's way out. Doesn't have any problem going back in. Not sure what I'm going to use to keep it staying put.

If you've got a brownells a1 stock, have a look at it.

Use a punch that goes inside the roll pin and give it a quick smack, should mushroom the end and allow it to tighten up a little.

Those e-mails are real, they will really send you something. I'm wearing a leg holster I got for free just by paying the 9.99 shipping. In reality the shipping was about 2 bucks and you get a 7 dollar holster.

Works for me. Y'all know how sensitive I am to scams too, this one is shady but not a scam. Clues were the company could be found on the internet and there were stories I could search of others who successfully received their crap though it does take longer than normal, took like 5 weeks to get it.

Did it have a countdown timer for the "limited time offer"?
