Nice looking truck!

As far as lightbars go, I've had a cheap amazon speacial (I think the brand is “nilight”) on the roof of my truck for going on two years now. I've been pretty happy with it. It's bright as hell. In fact, it's almost too bright for where I have it mounted.  It's got some condensation in it now, but that can be easily dried and fixed with some silicone.   Don't have a link, but  it's pretty easy to find if you search “light bar” on amazon. I can work on pics (they're all over on the other ranger forum right now)

For bumpers, your bolt-on options are pretty limited, but there are a few. (I personally don't like the look of most of them; they all seem to stick out ridiculously far). Companies like C4x4, Fierce Offroad, and Affordable Offroad make “winch” and “prerunner” bumpers for the ranger.  Your best starting point might be to start googling and see if it turns up something you like.

Affordability is relative, but expect to pay north of 500$ for something ready to bolt on.

I'm looking to get an inexpensive light bar for mine, attempting to mount behind the grille, and yes i'm looking on Amazon for them.

There are a couple of 'no name' version that have good ratings and i'm also considering the AuxBeam stuff.

How about this one, it mounts under the front bumper like the bull bars & it comes with light mounting tabs.

I'm sure it's a nice bar and gives a reasonable look, but for me at least, it's going to cost more than all the kit put together, i can drill holes inside the grille for less ;)

As far as a bumper upgrade though, yeah pretty nice.

These fit nicely behind the 01-03 honeycomb grille (with minimal air damn trimming).

Lights

I've also found them to be way more effective than my roof mounted lightbar (this is more because of their location than the style of light though).

Thanks, though i'm thinking about shoving a bar in there rather than spots, just need to make sure i've enough room as the ones i'm looking at are 32 inches long and i don't have measurements inside the honeycomb grille.

No problem

32" would be pretty tight behind the grille.  I believe you've got like 18-20" of usable space up there.   For reference, my roof mounted bar is 30"

Oooh, ok, that makes the choices a little easier, 20" bars seem pretty common, but nothing then until 32.

Looking at this bar, though apparently the brackets take it out to ~25 inches.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LZ2SNF9/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I3QVJIOEESCG22&colid=RQGMTWMVW13Q&th=1

There are two areas inside the honeycomb grille, the section right at the front, and that would have enough space for this including the brackets.  But i'm not sure if it's a good surface to mount on?
Ranger_Danger_ you didn't show your grille in the pic, so i don't know what space you have available, or are you thinking more an external fitted light?

You can see the section on the right here where it is wider towards the grille and then narrows towards the radiator.

That black plastic piece is the air dam. I wouldn't trust it to mount anything to, as its thin plastic and only held on by some Christmas's tree pins. But, right behind the air dam is the header panel, which would definitely be strong enough to mount a light bar to.

Problem I foresee is that when people mount spotties behind there, you have a "pencil beam" of light which is a very sharp projection of light and works exceptionally well from behind the grill because the Grill no longer differentiates the light pattern so close to the lense. Flood or combo lights will get deviated from that actual function and there is some small risk with blocking off or disturbing the airflow to the radiator that is another concern.

Most light bars mostly offer a combo of focused spot beam in the middle and then as you come out to the edges develop or migrate into a flood beam of light pattern. Also most of the cheaper lights don't really offer a way to differentiate from this either by design or often offer anything to be able to even change out the lenses to change these attributes by accessories.

On top of the fact that most people unaware that the type of light and its placement is most often why lights seem to not be the best or useful for the need.

Kaylee, what do you use your truck most for out there in Flo-Rida? More open areas or deep trails? Both??

I would be looking to mount on a horizontal surface, what exactly can i mount to behind that grille?

I was looking to mount inside due to not having it too exposed for being nicked or damaged, i'm not concerned at all about the cooling, it wouldn't even come close to being a hindrance there.

I did wonder about the grille bars 'aligning' the light though, they're not very deep so i'm hoping that'd be to a minimum.

Well, there are brands that allow you to interchange the lens, so shy of trying to get a visual on both a mounting surface and aligning the light (on) so you can get a best proper shine with minimal interference. You can swap out the outer lenses to 'spot' and get a better effect and absolutely mitigate the depth of the honeycomb grills. Some other grills like my 93' may require a bit more creativeness along with the choices of lights themselves; myself, I prefer the SRS series over the double lightbars to be honest.

Thankfully most even the lesser expensive brands allow their brackets to rotate the full 360° and you could mount with the fixture hanging securely from the top, the back or possibly from a lower position in the grill.

In either vertical mount, creativity, longer bolts, and some washers would adjust height.

I personally enjoy open areas. As a young and dumb teenager, there is more room to dick around in. More room for error and time for correction.

SRS Series? link? i only find airbag links searching for that ;)

I don't think i'm going to have too much issue with the grille interference for lighting, what i do need to do now, is investigate the most suitable mounting point in there.

Sorry... SRS - Single Row Series; of LED lights or lighting say Vs. Double row, the typical rendition of Rigid selling $2200 50" Dual row LED light bars that for many people equate a mortgage payment and two car payments in some families yet their justification is "But we made it, you MUST buy it".

See Rigid Lighting did something that for many would be rather confusing. That same light bar; 50.00" Straight LED light was in its own infancy a $1799.00 tag to it.. Still more than enough to make the average enthusiasts butt pucker tighter than a frogs ass and run down to the local Autistic zone or Orielly's and buy a set of $49.99 and down lights before their wallets burst into flames at the counter.

Then out of no where three other "specific" LED companies hit the market and several old school and current market trendsetters were already in development of their own "LED" lights. Rigid made the bold move to RAISE their prices and that same LED light bar above went to $2199.99, and as of 1.7 years ago, they were bought out by another company and since that time NO LONGER ENFORCE or UPHOLD their Lifetime warranty just for good measure after the buy out.

For some people, rough on their stuff, that's important. For some people interested in piece of mind, that's important.

Ideally there is 4 manufactures that make the same in likeness extruded aluminumized channel that ALL LED manufactures use and I'm not positive, but I believe all of them are made in China. What changes is the quality of the
  • Lenses
  • LED's used
  • How the LED is used [Explain later]
  • The obvious size of the light
  • Circuit symmetry
  • Quality of internal parts
  • Packaging
  • Manufactures origin of assembly
  • Manufactures stand to backing up product
Buggman might even be able to throw another thing or two in there, I'm running off the cuff based upon just product knowledge and industry insight and politics.

I wasn't really ready for this yet but I deal with a company here in the USA, local to all via California State. They make everything in house with the exception of the same extruded casings everyone from Rigid to El-Cheapo Chinese brands use. They COME with a no questions asked Lifetime warranty. They offer 4 different LED light tiers to cover everything from rock crawling to ripping across the Desert at 80MPH and never being able to catch that light plus+ a entry level light for the budget conscious with no loss to the warranty.

I had an opportunity to deal with Rigid Lighting due to a friend at Factor55 giving me a foot in the door but why? Everyone is trying to sell them already, the company at a whole puts a bad taste in my mouth in their business model to their audacity at the counter level, and frankly. My demographic doesnt deal with "Mall Crawlers". I've been building this company based upon a passion for the outdoors, traveling on a budget, and making real business relationships like an old school Mom & Pop shop because of my own ANTI-corporate beliefs. Relationships are far more important to me along with shared adventures and experiences when I can get them not necessarily the $$$ first. I've done so much pro-bono   it would make your head swim.

But like Buggman, if anyone has yet to see the vendor links on the forum home page, I run and operate 12° North Industries.., technically I'm not quite finished with all of my paperwork within the State of Nevada and that's why I've been holding off with going fully live. Not to mention, I've got a metric   ton of products still waiting to be uploaded that I do anywhere between 8-10 to 50 a day.

I could arrange opening up the link for a day for everyone to see what I have going on and possibly a group buy if there was enough interest in lighting. I just find myself self critiquing and unprepared for/at the moment.

Just to point it out.. As I stated earlier that Light bar has a center portion dedicated to SPOT lights [narrower beam of light] for forward projection, and the outer LED's are flood pattern which most of which, at least on the far-far ends will light up the INSIDE of the grill area more than shine their light outward and/or light defraction from the grill will bounce the light in other than intended directions. Especially if the light bar is mounted more than an inch or so away from the grill area.

Also that light bar may NOT allow you to alter or modify the lenses in that capacity to meet the needs or desires being explained. Have you checked with the manufacture to see if that can be changed or if you can at least order one on complete Spot light fashion?

There is only one manufacturer for Ranger Bumpers and that is Custom 4x4 Fabrication out of OK.

I am not sure where his pricing is now but he was more than fair priced when I got my Front and Rear Bumper from him about 4 years ago and he is the only manufacturer of a Ranger Rear Bumper for a Steppie, which I am sure he can modify to fit a Fleetside bed. (standard Ranger Bed)

I would have to check out his site to be sure of his Addie but do a search I am sure you will like the look and the price.

Here's the e-mail Addie:  sales@custom4x4fabrication.com   Ask for Mike, tell him SandyB told you to call.

Links and Pics would be valued! Thanks!

Hello Kaylee,
How is your Bumper search going ?

I didn't post pictures of the bumpers but as soon as the Gallery is open to me again I will gt a pic posted for both the front and rear.

C4x4 Fab can get bumpers on your truck for half the money other suppliers can do it for.
My front and rear bumpers cost less than half of others and that was delivered to my door.

Not to be picky but.. If only 1 company makes Ranger bumpers, pretty hard to compare apples and apples when it comes to price wouldn't you say? ;)

And truth be told, there are 4 companies that make/made Ranger bumpers in whole and 2 that offer DIY weld kits. Now thankfully one of those companies [T.A.G.] has finally succumbed to all of the decietfulness it created and has been buried in the archives of all things bad in the internet...

And depending on your search and Google-fu, you may come up empty handed if your search is left to a specific year as the other companies, one only makes things from 85/87ish-97 and the other two offer items from 98+ only for some odd reason neither of these entities seem to arrive at the conclusion of doing business on behalf of the other demographics... Amazing! [SMH]

Stay away from anything remotely coming out of Georgia as its TAG trying to reincarnate itself. I think there latest attempt is under the name of Blue Lake something-rather bullshit... Avoid at all costs. just grab a 12 pack and a fresh month of Data plan and read through the chaos on line reviews of them screwing people over time and time again. oh Geezus.. Sad but Funny

And just to put it out there. I realize that even in the overly communicated commercial world and the custom bumper shops there is a lot of stuff out there, junk included. But there is also a lot that SHOULD go into the thought and design of a bumper and doesnt AT ALL..

What I meant about the Bumper Manufacturers Custom 4x4 Fabrication is by far the best Ranger Bumper Company going.

The prices and quality are great and good delivery time. You can et a front and rear bumper for the same price as other companies charge for just the front.

Mike the owner, works with you so the bumpers are just what you want. They even make a Steppie rear Bumper.

Check them out ! Call Mike and talk !
