These are 2 of my vintage snow blowers. The orange one is a 3 stage, 1964 Moto-Mower Snow Shark.  It has only 3 very minor changes to it.

The other one is a 3 stage, 1974 American Lincoln Sno-Mow. It has had Many mods done to it. I refer to it as my "Hot-Rod Lincoln"

Both machines were torn down to the last nut and bolt. All hardware exposed to the weather, is now Stainless Steel. ---- John

Very nice restoration work, John! Just curious, why 7 snow blowers?

Most likely the same reason I have 9 farm tractors.  It`s kind of  like trying to eat just one potato chip, or maybe making only one modification to a Ranger.

In the case of the snow blowers, I bought  my first one (a 72 Jacobsen Imperial 26), at a salvage yard to fix up for my own use. I innocently joined up with a snow blower forum and the rest is history. ---- John

I proudly run an early 60's Snow Bird (2-stage) model 226, it's been in the family since Feb 1966 and was bought with the house from the original owner who I'd estimate bought it ~1960 - 1962. Starts first or second pull EVERY time after sitting for the summer, made of steel so its almost indestructible, it's simple and straight forward to use/maintain, and has no safety features at all (maybe three sentences covering safety in the three page/six printed sides owners manual :) ). This means that if a person is too dumb to stop and think about what they are doing, too dumb to understand the consequences of poor decisions in advance and they proceeded, they could for example, reach in the chute to unclog it while the engine is running and have an entire hand chopped off in a split second. Good stuff, machines that are so tuff, durable and well built that most of the companies that make them went out of business years ago.

@Bill: So this machine lacks the warning labels that hinder the process of natural selection? GOOD! :)

Yes. In fact, I have a second machine and its a ~1972 rendition of the same machine; Snow Bird was acquired by Yard Man (remember them?). This second machine, Yard Man model 7010-1 that I bought to use at an acreage of mine is an epic POS and a huge turd, once a great machine that got de-engineered by Yard Man (but you wouldn't notice it at first glance) and it breaks so frequently (welds of all things, crappy Tecumseh engine w/ governor that just cant be properly set, there is more) that I'm waiting for a good snowfall then I think it's going on CL at a price to entice a buyer. Still, no safety anything however and unfortunately, the machine never breaks *enough* to justify me leaving it on the side of a road somewhere. This because, I know it won't be there too long. :D

Ah yes, Yard Man! Most of their stuff was garbage IIRC. Tecumseh engines (especially the aluminum ones) had a bad reputation as well.

My Dad bought a Snow Shark in 1968. I was still using it up until 2 years ago. Those things were tanks!

Speaking of snow blowers I just put mine in the garage in preparation of the upcoming snow tomorrow. Supposed to get 3-5". We have a 10 year old Yard Machines 24" snow blower that I replaced the carb, fuel lines, & primer bulb on it this past summer. Set the choke & pull the cord & it fires right up.

I have never lived in snow.

I do like to soup on most of engine operated equipment though. If I ever owned a snow blower I'm sure I'd want an oldie that can can handle anything, maybe a modern engine to aid in power and fuel economy. I however, have never even seen a snow blower in person! Good on you for keeping some Americana going!

Yes, the colors are original, with the exception of the handle bars. They were chrome and in very sad shape. ---- John

All of the above, and this is why my second machine needs to be priced to move on one of those days where it's snowed 2-8 inches every day for a week. A polished turd, just as I found it, all of the expelled oil from the blowboy carefully wiped away. My first and last Tecumseh engine, and this thread is a remider that I need to get my hands on a burner phone.

As evidenced by the gas tank, the muffler/carb box/primer/choke, is (was) that a Tecumseh and of the 6ish HP variety?

Who knows, but in this day and age I'd rather use a burner for anything I put on CL as well as those times where a phone number needs to be exchanged, but you just don't want to hand out your primary one. Same idea with email accounts. :)

Very true.  So many nut-jobs out there, or just miscreants looking for a way to take your stuff.  Honestly, I would rather toss something in the landfill than sell it on CL... safer that way.

=============================

It was indeed a 6hp hh60 Tecumseh. It was the two output shaft version. I replaced it with an 11hp Predator engine. Had to Modify the Predator, so that it would have 2 output shafts. --- John

2 things were put on this earth, for the sole purpose of causing aggravation.  One of them was TECUMSEH  engines.

HA! mehhhh more of a self trolling funny because so many can probably relate. And in honesty, have you ever really seen a divorce that went well? lol

Not to get too personal but when she filed, I gave her the house, the new car, everything inside the house, including my expansive whole house audio and electronics which at the time consisted of a LOT of B&W in wall Speakers throughout the 2714sq ft home, a full ride of Rotel 2ch and separate home theater gear which all of that was M&K with 2 Sunfire Jr. II subwoofers, a host of everything else including furniture AND, the gift of missing me..; whereas all I wanted and took was my personal effects, my tools, my previous business paperwork and property such as leftover parts and inventory, and to be a father to my 3 sons.

I wont get into the details beyond this but lets just say I'm super proud of my oldest whose a critical thinker and self made young man already at 20 and left home at 17 to do that, and my two youngest sons... Well, at 17 & 16, I'm still hoping to see light at the end of the tunnel as the ex does like to play the victim although vindictive and spiteful is the sub narrative. She does her best to use my two youngest sons as financial pawns in the schemes of things and the court won't do anything about the fact my (2) sons cant call me because they can text me. I cant call them and parenting from 2574 miles away through a text message is rather difficult to say the least.

If I acted on anger issues.... at 4' 10" I would have rented a wood chipper and a 5 gal can of kerosene, and had an easier time getting the lid on that 55 gal drum I just made room and sound deadening material for the extra road paving bricks at the bottom and rolled her down 1 block and over Jefferson St and into the Detroit river quite possibly next to Jimmy H as a fish food dispenser..

I should write screen plays, I'm seriously wasting some talent lolol

LOL Well, suffice it to say that I *CAN* relate. Divorced my first wife in 1998, gave her everything she asked for and then some. Walked away from a 23 year relationship with the 3 C's (car, clothes and computer). Have two daughters from that marriage... one I never see who lives 8 hours away in Oklahoma. The other one hates me and doesn't want to see me and has poisoned the minds of her two daughters. The ex-wife, however, died in 2002 (not by my hand, mind you). I must say, when she died, life became much easier and pleasant for me (is that a bad thing to say?). She was bitter and vindictive... conniving and spiteful. Made as much trouble for me as she could possibly generate. It's funny how someone who supposedly "loves" you can turn around and do the things they do.
