So what do you use? Mine is ancient I get the Mobile 1 high mileage and a Purolator boss or mobile 1 filter being I feel the filter is important.

I change every (-30,000 miles according to my switching clusters) about 6 to 8,000 miles.

Strictly Motorcraft 10W30 Synthetic blend and FL-1A filter...every 6 months which only equates to a few hundred miles.

Oh jesus you really want to start an argument don't you? THIS discussion? Lol...

Personally I use Mobile 1, usually get it on sale at CostCo for a good deal. Filters I use NAPA Gold. We do them once a year, regardless of miles. I am the one that does the least driving among the 4 cars. My son does the labor, I buy the materials. I do my bikes myself though.

Mobile1 and Motorcraft filter every 5k. I consider the way I drive the truck to be severe duty. Mostly city mileage with any highway miles pulling a trailer or a load in the bed.

I change the oil in my Fusion every 7500 miles with Mobile1 and a Motorcraft filter. Over 95% of the mileage is highway miles. Even at 7500 highway miles that is some of the blackest oil I have seen. I have had it analyzed and at 7500 miles the oil still had just under 10% useful life left.

I usually buy my filters on-line and buy them at the first pricebreak.

Valvoline Maxlife high mileage 5w-30 with Motorcraft FL400S filter.  Change the oil at around 5k miles.  I had the oil tested and it could go longer easily.  I might try a 6500 interval and then get it analyzed and see what the numbers look like.  Might as well list the cars:

Subaru STi:  5w-40 Motul with OEM Subaru filter: 3000k intervals or yearly which ever comes first.

Toyota Solara: 5w-30 Valvoline Maxlife with Motorcraft FL400S filter (same filter as ranger!  w00t): 5000k intervals

Mercedes w211:  0w-20 Mobil1 European with Mann filter cartridge: 10,000k intervals or yearly, which ever comes first.

Lexus NX: I believe it's also 0w-20.  But the vehicle is new and the dealer does oil changes for the next two years.

I thought we had one of these threads already... oh well !

I use 5w-20 Mobile 1 and Motorcraft Filter.
Buy the Six Pack of Mobile 1 from Costco for $27.00, Walmart carries the Motorcraft Filters, two for $5.00. I used to get 6K miles from one purchase.
Change the oil and filter, then at 3K miles I change the Filter and add oil as needed, the Sixth Quart from Costco, then at 6K miles, then start again with the Oil and Filter.  This method has worked since I purchased the '03 Ranger 11 years ago, approx., and she still sounds good.

The less you drive and the more dusty the location, the more you should change the oil filter.   Condensation build up will dilute the oil and reduce it's efficiency.

I have been toying with the idea of reducing the intervals because I don't drive the overall milage I used to.  Thinking 2K Filter, 4K Full Change.

The Wife's Honda CRV, has regular intervals prescribed by Honda and she uses a Honda Syth Oil.

I am 500 miles from the oil change. I also have to do a 3rd member service and air filter. I have everything except the air filter and the friction additive for the LS rear.

The LS service is due. I have noticed the LS is not kicking in like it should over the past 6 months.

After reading this thread I have some questions about the whole oil and filter thing. First of all
I do understand the importance of it but tell me the differences in the types of oil and filter one would use. I mean does the type of driving you do say like long distances, in town running errands or just a nice day cruiz once in a while determine the type of oil or filter used?
For instance I go back and forth to work sometimes 4 times a day and it's 10 miles one way. Then on days off I go anywhere and everywhere I can sometimes far sometimes not. I am almost afraid to ask what is recommended because I know everyone will have a different answer so I will ask what is standard for the type of driving I do?

Everyone will have a different answer.

I consider city driving a harsh environment type of driving. Towing or carrying 200+ lbs down the highway is harsh environment as well a 100+ temps and dusty conditions. So I change my oil on a more frequent basis.

In the operator's or maintenance manual lists the recommended oil change interval. Always use the recommended weight of oil.

There are 3 different types of oil. The cheaper oil made out of crude oil. The pricey full synthetic. And the mix of the two the semi-synthetic blend. The full synthetic usually has more detergents with anti varnish properties.

I change my own oil and I know the history of the truck since it had 60k miles on it. I have used Mobile1 since then. I also buy Motorcraft oil filters in a 10 pack for better pricing. I change the oil every 5k because I consider my type of driving extreme condition. If I were to go across country not carry a load I would stretch it out to a 8k-10k changing out the filter at 5k.

With a 10 mile commute as long as it was not stop and go I would consider that easy miles/normal duty. If I picked a "new to me" truck that had an unknown service history and oil that had more than 100k on it, I would use regular dino oil. I would also change it every 3300 miles (3 times every 10k).
