A GOOD vinyl dye will soak INTO the material better and the adhesion properties should be better.
There is a guy in Michigan I used to deal with a lot more back in the day, but he can make ANY color from any manufacture you can imagine and put it in a can for your spray gun or in an aerosol can for simplicity. He's not cheap, but hes not that expensive either but the dye quality should last longer than most people generally have a vehicle by far with even just decent prep work.
I have when in the Car Audio industry and later building some custom application vehicles/Limo interior reworks done many entire interior color changes that came out great! I just cant seem to be able to do as well of a job painting a large area like a hood or a quarter panel with paint and or on metal at least that size and expect even close to a good job in that sense.
Small stuff, I/P's, audio amp racks and enclosures out of fiberglass.. sure. Paint your car? the EXTERIOR? mmmmmmmnnnaahhhhhhhh!
THAT I can't do.. lol
