I'm thinking bottom still. Angle head drill. There has to be a way to get behind it. Or take it off for this one mod then put it back!

I can't get under it though, not in a way i can see, otherwise that'd be fine.

Top mount would be very easy, but the depth of the light bars mean that step block you can see pushes it out and angles the bar maybe 10%.

Can you post a straight on level pic of your grill area, (think of a sideways phone camera shot and just fill the screen with the headlights and grill for the shot I am looking for) and then the light fixture itself and its mount(s).

Might be able to provide you with some mounting options and thoughts to consider for completing your mod with an easier time.

I can obviously get something more accurate if needed, but does this suffice?

Dang that's about as clear as it gets, I wish even a percentage of our customers here at work would explain themselves that well.

Well, I thought about it and then had a conference with my electronics guru (Cameron).  We talked a bit about it and he thought on it for a while.  Then he disappeared into the garage.  Came back in about an hour later stating that it COULD be done, but not with just some simple relays.  He mentioned something about an arduino board or LM317 or if you could hack the GEM, you could maybe grab a signal and timer there, but we know of no way to to that (at that point my eyes surely glazed over).

So, the short of it is: this would take quite a bit of electronic wizardry to accomplish.

Bummer :(

Well thanks for checking - i'm not sure if it could be keyed from the keyout portion of the system, as that doesn't activate when the doors are closed :(

That is the approach we took.  There is a contact in the lock cylinder that when grounded by the inserted key, sends a signal to the GEM.  We were hoping to use that to do the magic.  Problems and concerns such as circuit back-feed, how does that work when the door is open and such as well as how to cancel the interior light request once it occurs were what makes it more of a chore than I first anticipated.  Funny how something that is so seemingly simple becomes overly complex...

Well, i wrote a bunch here, came back, edited it to include this pic, hit choose file and added it, saved - it wiped out all my text..... JAMMAN!!!!! ;)

Anyway, i said something like, yes it's two lights, one for each side, they're 9 inch lights, now you can see actual dimensions below.

An idea was to use a flat piece of metal, just thick enough to prevent twisting at the light end, that mounts to the top of the plastic using two bolts, one at back and one at the front.
I will need to confirm space behind the grille for allowing the light to come forward instead of down, but i think this would allow for the simplest bracket type to be used?

Way over thought as a "from scratch" idea for the dome-light feature and hacking the GEM, go outside of it, so much easier to add on at times than expand existing circuitry sometimes... Either below could work with a Key/Off trigger either +/- and timed between 1sec-100secs if you so wished.

Directed Electronics Inc 528T 12v Accessory Pulse Timer

Or if you want to be really up to date and with the times, MOSFET switching power supply.
Mosfet Multi-switch 611T 12V Accessory Timer

I have wiring diagrams and uses available on .PDF but not sure exactly how to load those on here as such yet..

So odd that they [Auxbeam] truly limited mounting options on there/that light like that. They almost look like they were meant to be mounted on or under a bumper or racking of sorts. very odd.

In either case with a better look at the mount you are hindered into either mounting from below or as you stated in a hanging position. On top of that in either fashion, you may also have to compensate for height or drop if you will to clear openings of the grill area too.

@12dNorth: my son *IS* an over-thinker! LOL Among the things I posted, he mentioned a 555 timer, said something about square waves and stuff. Keep in mind, HE is the one with the abilities, not me.

Thanks for the links... that first one looks rather interesting for various reasons. :)

Well, from one over analyzer to another.. at times its more often a curse than a gift. That is for sure!

yea either of those two modules will work for what is being asked and for many things, closing a sunroof, auto headlights, auto dome light feature OR Dome and Puddle lamps (oooohhhh ;) ) feature, the radio soft turn off feature, and the creativity could be endless.

I just ordered some 555's because I couldn't find the pile I had from years ago. I'll probably lose them also.

I'd love someone to do this with one of those pulse setups, i understand exactly what they do, i just don't have the wherewithal to actually connect it to the truck without instructions.

Fitted the grille back tonight (taking it up the mountain tomorrow) and measured the space inside, looks like plenty to use in bringing the light forward to mount.

Replaced my hood latch. What started out as a simple 2 bolt & release cable turned into a broken bolt & a trip to the local pick-n-pull for another bolt. Then I had to remove the grille so I could drill out the old bolt. This time when I installed the bolts I used anti-seize on the threads. The hood closes much better now, I do not have to slam it. The spring that was to the lever that the hood release cable clips to was stretched out.

Want me to switch pics with that top one for the slide show? That's a much "cooler" picture. pun intended.
