Grabbed a bottle of this in my quest to quieten down my power steering pump.

I'm going to go with the baster-bulb method of removal of current fluid and re-fill with Lucas, probably this weekend after I get the front-end aligned. When I was researching "noisy PS pump" I found that there are many who swear by Lucas for our trucks.....although I also understand that nothing will eliminate all of the noise.
It's endemic to FoMoCo products.  I have a friend with a Lincoln and he has the same noise.

Yup, the old turkey baster is a great cheap way to remove fluids, though for power steering you can only get to a small amount that way.

I will warn re the Lucas stuff, unless i'm mistaken, that stuff is like molasses, quietening something down by taping over it's mouth isn't something i'd recommend.

I'm trying this stuff due to my mechanic recommending it and in further reading, the fact it brings the spec of regular fluid up to Honda power steering fluid, is quite promising (Hondas have fussy power steering fluid requirements)

Feel free to wait on this, i should have done mine by the end of the week so i can let you know if it works or not.

^Totally agree.

I tried the lube guard version of their tranny fluid additive and was not pleased at all. It made the transmission slip and search for gears. I had to drain it and refill with merc-v and the problem went away immediately.

I'm a firm believer that most of that stuff is BS. I only use Mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid for the power steering. It has significantly made it quieter. Still makes some noise but I think that's just how rangers are. I've used it now for 6+ years with zero issues. I simply undo the bottom return line and fill, then have my wife turn the steering wheel lock to lock when the front end is lifted and it completely gets all the old crap out while I pour the new stuff in. Way easier than trying to use a turkey baster and then refilling again after a couple weeks. Takes about 10 minutes and the fluid is cheery red and new.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I haven't had any noise out of mine yet. I would imagine if I did I would buy a replacement PS pump though. Given the issues that you guys mentioned, I'd likely go with an aftermarket brand though.

I'm wondering if I should get ahead of the game and go ahead and replace it with the lube guard pictured above.

Is that just an additive? Or a complete fluid?

You're less likely to have problems on your 2011, especially at the moment (too young)
However, i will say that the pumps you go and buy are remanufactured, mine is "new" that way because my old pump's tank sprung a leak.

The stuff i posted above is an additive - i currently have a mix of the following in my pump.

Mostly Mercon ATF
Some MerconV synthetic
Some more Redline ATF (Synthetic)
Lube Guard additive.

I added the Lube guard and took it for some local driving, i can't say i've noticed any/much improvement so far.

Awesome. I'm hoping the last owner took care of the truck. It is in pretty good shape for being 7 yeas old though.

After 10 years of owning my Mustang, I haven't had any major issues with it. Though she only has 63K on her now and doesn't get used much. No noise from any accessories. I've changed the battery once (probably about due again) and I had an axle seal leaking diff fluid into my wheel. Changed those out and no other issues.

I've had good luck with Fords so far.

Got my tie-rod ends done {last part to the front-end rebuild}, rotated tires, greased all front-end parts and had aligned.
Drives like a new truck...and much quieter!

Now, to install the Sony WX-900BT head unit. ;)

BTW.....that rear-end "clunk" I had?
Gone!  I guess somehow the bad ball-joint movement/"thunk" must have been riding the frame rails, making it feel that it was the rear-end on accel and stopping.
I'm just glad that that's one less thing to get back to perfect. ;)

Next major will be rear suspension.  Shackles are dried & cracked and I don't like the way the back of the 1st leaf tends to be separated from the rest.
Any suggestions for shackles, leafs & shocks?
Bear in mind that this is my DD and my 4x4 use is mainly when needed, rather than for fun and exploration. {That's what I had my lifted Bronco for... :) }

Well it was yesterday but...

I had my son help vacuum some glass out of the back from an obvious break in long before I bought the truck.

AND I put the new battery in I have had for 2 years plus. Just in case LOL it was starting to strain when cranking. Might be the starter I'll probably find out soon.

I helped a buddy move today. Threw some boxes and bbq grill in the back. Nothing heavy.

With a high of 43* today, the heater kept me nice and toasty!

From a warm room I watched my truck outside on the driveway in sub-freezing weather. I did not venture outside today. The high today was 30.

LOL I'm originally from Michigan and spent 5 years way up north.. petoskey and pellston. If you didn't own a snowmobile your neighbor had to or you couldn't get to Glens in the winter for groceries.

Every home owner also owned a "roof rake".
Wasn't uncommon for it to be below zero for over a week and I have seen 5 feet of snow in 3 hours.

Mid Ohio feels like Georgia to me being from Michigan if that makes sense

I guess that ad's up.

I was born in Florida, lived there until I was 19. Once I joined the Air Force I moved to Las Vegas, NV. for 5 years. Then I moved to panama City, FL. for 4.5 years and now in South Georgia for 4.5 now.

I've driven in snow once in Northern Arizona in December. I played in the snow once on Christmas in the mountains surrounding Vegas. Lastly, I got snowed on in one of the XYZ-istan countries for a few days while headed home from a deployment. Cold, miserable, wet snow. I'm a southern boy and prefer to keep it that way! Snow isn't for me. Besides, I'm skinny. Us skinny guys tend to shiver when it's below 65*!
