After 18 years, 13 of which I owed her, my Ranger had the second large repairs that I did not want to do.

The first, two years ago, a Clutch, Pressure Plate, and Slave Cyl.;  the second just yesterday, the fuel Pump decide to travel at its own speed and left town.

Truck is in the Shop right now... got the call... Fuel Pump, Filter, clean up, Parts $375.00, and LABOR, (Drum Roll)... $400.00 !

Oh ya, $20 for Oil/Filter Change (My Oil and Filter) and Lube Job, and with all the extra Grease Fittings... not a bad price.

Repair shop rates are a b*tch.  That is why I do ALL my own work on my truck.  My wife's Lincoln MKx?  Well, that's another story.  PTU went out three years ago, cost almost $2000 to repair.  Worth every penny; if you know where that thing is located.  No way you could do that without a lift.  Left it to the professionals.

Michael, that is why I want a lift in my garage when I build one next Spring. I know my limitations when it comes to doing repairs on our trucks, & pay for what I either can not do or is to much of a PITA to do. Like you I do almost all of the repairs on our vehicles.

Yeah, the more we save by doing it ourselves, the better off we are.  Besides, not all "professional" mechanics give a sh*t about quality work.

True enough !
Problem is no help in the area to assist in Bed removal.
Getting parts from Ford and not being a Repair Shop su_ks too !

I have the truck, runs, so I'm ahead of the curve once again !

Next up... drum roll please, The Mirror Project.
It will be a basic replacement of the mirror with the '06 model, Mirror have been mod'd and should be a bolt in !
Wiring will have to wait, although I might do the directional hook up and look into where the wires come from for the Under-door Puddle Lights and the clearance under the door when closed (just how I will determine the clearance is another thing)... also Side Window Wipers will be replaced., the coating is peeling... any thoughts on that !
I'm thinking Bed Lights after that oh ya... after the Office is cleaned up some and the Shelves are in place.

Have a GREAT Week !

Scrambler, do you have an engine hoist, or can you rent one for a day/weekend?. When ever I have removed the bed from my Ranger I use heavy duty rope & run it through the tie down hooks in an "X" pattern & then tie both ends. Where the rope crosses I put the hook from the engine hoist lift chain & lift away. Once the bed is high enough to clear the tires I have my wife drive the truck out from under the bed & I set the bed on a couple saw horses or you could use 4 jack stands.

I do but the real problem is so many projects and no time to complete.

The quick way was to have it done.

Trucks running well.
Didn't do anything Ranger yesterday or today.
Started a "Do" on the Honey-Do List !   (Gotta keep the Wife happy) !

OK since you want to ask, I started the Pipe Shelves for the Office and Living Room.
Pipe Frames are assembled but not tightened.   Need a good cleaning, maybe some clear paint, and then mounting.

It was not a Ranger, but my wife's 99 Explorer Sport, I had to replace the backing plates that hold the parking brake shoes which were badly rusted out. While I was there I replaced both axle seals, good thing the passengers side seal was leaking.

Supposedly on the second generation Explorers (1995-2001) it is very common where the states use salt on the roads in the Winter. Here are a few pics,

JY backing plates that had surface rust after I cleaned them up painted them, installed new shoes & hardware.

Old backing plate passengers side.

Old backing plate (what is left of it) drivers side.

I was thinking in terms of drum brake backing plates. I see your Expo has rear disc. Makes more sense now since those are more of a dust shield rather than backing plate.  Those JY backing plates look to be nice and solid.

It's funny, since the Backing Plate (BP) holds the E-Brake, that it wouldn't be thickerer !

BP on the front are sometimes left off to reduce debris build up, a stone caught in between the BP and the Rotor can not only create NOISE but cause damage to the rotor.

I was going to do an Explorer Brake upgrade to my 31 spline Ranger Axle, until I saw the E-Brake setup, decided OEM was good enough for the little truck !
Ford should have used a standard Caliper with E-Brkae built in !

Good ole Rock Auto!  I am considering replacing my radiator when I replace the timing cover gasket and water pump.  Just as a preventative maintenance item.

Okay, so right now, my Ranger is in a million pieces.  Heater core replacement... so the dash is out, the evap housing is pulled forward, and the HVAC plenum (heater box) is on the garage floor.  I plan on also replacing the blend door while this is out, although mine seems to be just fine (call it a cover my butt move).

As many of you know, I performed the EATC mod back in 2017 and it has been somewhat successful, although it has one issue that I want to resolve while the HVAC Plenum is removed.  The cabin temp sensor (small vent just right of the radio) is supposed to draw air from the cabin to determine the actual cab temperature.  I discovered that it isn't doing that, and therefore the system won't maintain the set point temperature (say 72 degrees).  I want to relocated the aspirator hose to the OEM position that, I believe, is on top of the plenum and right next to the heater core and to the right of the blend door actuator.  Before I cut a hole to install the connector elbow, I want to verify I am correct on the proper location.  I am asking (no, begging) anyone who owns or has access to a 1998 to 2001 Explorer with EATC to please verify (preferably with a pic) the proper OEM location where the aspirator hose connects to the HVAC plenum.  You should be able to see the connection by dropping the glove box and looking up and left toward the radio area.  You will see a white corrogated hose coming from the dash vent and connecting to an elbow on the HVAC plenum.  THAT is what I need the picture of.  ANY help with this would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Above is a pic of where I THINK the connection should go.  The spot with four little posts and two holes.

Finally got pictures of the Ranger with the '06 Mirrors and got the "Weather Tech" Headlight Shields in place.
Wiring (Mirror Controls, Directionals, and Heaters) slid through all of the openings without a problem.   The Sleeve between the doors and the Kick Panels, I didn't want to remove it so I used a Fish Wire and got the wires through.

The Weather Tech Headlight LampGards went on relatively easy using their Cleaner and Slip Solution.
Weather Tech did have a mixture substitutes fo the Cleaner and Slip Solution you can make at home, but I didn't know it until I got items in hand.
Both LampGards went in place without a problem, make sure you wet you fingers with the Slip Solution, align the three tabs with the holes in the LampGards; now the fun begins, start moving the solution and all the air bubbles from under the LampGards using the supplied Squeegee.
At first your work to get everything smooth and attached to the headlights appears to be doing no good, then the LampGards starts to hold and the air bubbles disappear and you have a secured LampGards on your headlight.
Allow things to dry and double check for air bubbles.
NOTES:
-Make sure you keep your fingers wet.
-Watch out when trying to form the LampGards to the contour of the headlight lens...  it does get there but it takes time and the material CAN crease if you don't watch out.  I thought I had a crease forming, from my working the Gard, but I caught t in time and moved the material around.  Still can see something there but not as bad as it could have been.
-Keep the Slip Solution handy.
-Keep the outside surface of the LampGards wet, helps with the Squeegee.
-When you get an area that seems to be sticking more than you want, spray the Lens with the Slip Solution.

Sounds like the same process as applying vinyl graphics/decals.  I'm assuming the alternate Slip Solution is distilled water and a few drops of Dawn dish washing liquid?

Truck is looking good!

Thanks.

I think your right on the mixture of the Slip Stuff; I paid $10 for some soap on a bottle.

Well, $10 isn't much.  It's good insurance that the job is done right... if you mix the Dawn and water solution wrong, you can end up with a mess.  Better safe than sorry!

So, I'm still on the heater core replacement project.  Got the new core (TYC brand) and it was cheap, Chinese junk that wouldn't fit without modifying the heater plenum box and the core was only half as thick as the original.  Sent that back to Rock Auto and found a Motorcraft unit in stock from O'Reilly online (Rock Auto didn't have one in stock).  It came in yesterday.  Going to get this truck back together this weekend!!  Also, I signed up on ExplorerForum.com and got the info I needed to relocate the EATC aspirator hose, so that has been done and the old hole patched with a plastic disc and epoxy.
