My blower stopped working a few weeks ago. I replaced the blower resistor a couple of weeks ago and this fixed it. I read you should replace the electrical harness as well. The old wiring had corrosion on it as well. I got this part off of amazon /Dorman-973-307-Blower-Resistor-Harness. I was careful to do one wire at a time since new one is not color coded. I used the crimps that came with it. Now blower back to not working. I checked my connections all are tight. Any ideas? This is on an 08 Ranger. Thank you

I think he did!

Hey Welcome to F-R and I personally have replaced I think 4 in the past couple years.

I was not able in all 4 cases to separate the plug from the resistor! I'm amazed you got it off, but the resistor was bad and you saw rust on the contacts on the INSIDE of the resistor where the coils were then the corrosion has migrated up the terminals in to the wire. When you get a new harness and another resistor as a package cut the wires more than an inch away from the old plug to get rid of the corroded part.

This post made me finally go fix mine a few minutes ago. Been meaning to for months now. I wrapped sandpaper around a mini-screwdriver and kept sanding the rust off of both sides of the male terminals inside of the resistor unit. I'd already replaced my wiring harness connector a couple months ago with a better looking unit from a parts truck as well as the resistor pack. Filled it up with dielectric grease and no-go. Wiggled the connector into another position and it worked on all speeds. Looks like I've got a little more sanding/cleaning to do on my connectors/terminals... but I ran out of daylight.

I've got more parts trucks than I can keep track of, so I figure why not wring every last dollar out of them that I can.

I don't have a lot of money but I have even less time these days so I have to squeeze every "moment" I can. That thing can be a pain to remove some times.

I've found that Dorman is pretty much hit and miss as far as many electrical components.
Common to Rangers, I changed out my resistor block a few years ago with a Dorman unit. Real lucky, it lasted maybe 6 months. I bought an OEM unit, and no problems. I had also replaced the harness at the same time with the Dorman unit.
Just an example, myself and others have also had junk from Dorman. I've found when it comes to electrical, OEM is the better way.

I know this thread is a little old but I am having THE Heater Blower Problem, for some time but it hasn't caused me any problem.
I will be replacing the Windshield/Overflow Tank and since the same things need to be removed to replace it, I might as well do the Heater Resistor at the same time.
I can find the Resistor Unit at Tasa Parts (under $20), but am having trouble finding the attaching harness... Pigtail I think it was called in this thread.
Anyone have a link I can use to obtain a new harness.

Thanks

This is one of the many e-bay versions that has both. Maybe Rock Auto has a kit with both too I didn't see one after a couple minutes of searching but they very well may have one:

Blower Resistor and harness

I spelled resistor wrong in the first link but it still works.

Here is one on Amazon resistor & harness, https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-973-411-Blower-Motor-Resistor/dp/B009IF2I7G
Here is just the repair pigtail harness, https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-973-307-Blower-Resistor-Harness/dp/B003YLHAGE/ref=pd_sbs_263_img_1/131-8438189-2699938?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B003YLHAGE&pd_rd_r=9a5a2f11-777b-4329-8421-bed12967c27e&pd_rd_w=Lhmdz&pd_rd_wg=ql2bC&pf_rd_p=5cfcfe89-300f-47d2-b1ad-a4e27203a02a&pf_rd_r=0MZJHX0RENX0MYW51SX8&psc=1&refRID=0MZJHX0RENX0MYW51SX8

Here is one on Partsgeek.com from Standard Motor Products, https://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/AC/5511-07161224.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=ff&utm_content=TS&utm_campaign=PartsGeek+Google+Base&utm_term=1983-2011+Ford+Ranger+HVAC+Blower+Motor+Resistor+Connector+Standard+Motor+Products+83-11+Ford+HVAC+Blower+Motor+Resistor+Connector+2006+2004&utm_source=google&utm_medium=ff&utm_campaign=PartsGeek+Google+Basecid=6774379819&aid=79287199093&keyword=833170039624%3A%3Apla-833170039624&kid=833170039624&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4NTxBRDxARIsAHyp6gBxQkim00omIpLVVtA6emExS3EUqoy9LJevnjUvgDBqr6CWQGgxPAQaAktrEALw_wcB

I did a bunch of Google searches & only came up with 1 Ford pigtail for the blower resistor but it was for a Crown Vic.

Thx.  I couldn't find anything Ford for this part.

There is a Delco Part too.

I will have to order the Ford Resistor and then see what happens from there.

I know when I replaced the one in my 2000 the wire connections were rusted to the resistor, I had to replace both the resistor & the pigtail. BTW if your Ranger has cruise control if you remove the cruise control servo from the inner fender well it makes replacing the resistor much much easier.

I saw that you had suggested that and My plan is to replace the Washer Tank Assembly, and need to remove the Cruise System to get it out... sssoooo while things are already apart, I'm going for it and replace the resistor unit.

While I'm in there I need to check out why I only have Defroster too !

Thx / Ltr

IIRC if you only have defrost setting it could be a vacuum leak in the system somewhere.

I've heard that, but I don't know the system well enough to just jump in.

I'm going to read up on some of the posts, may need to go to the other Ranger Sites to get some info.

Thx for the post.

I haven't ordered the new Tank yet, so I have 10 days or so to read up on it.
