 I bought some STP Ultra 5 in 1 fuel system cleaner about 3 weeks ago and just can't
seem to put it in my tank because of the unknown to me. Did I get a good or bad brand?
Is it the right stuff? Maybe I need to use something different? Will it make a difference?
what kind of difference? What if it is the wrong stuff, what could happen then?
To many questions with absolutly no answers then I thought Oh yeah I belong to a Ranger Forum! :)
So glad you guys are around and sorry for being not only about my Ranger but about vehicles and the how to's in general. Kinda like teaching an infant how to walk one step at a time I guess.

 This is nothing but an opinion, and from experience with carburated vehicles.

If the vehicle has been using fuel system cleaners its entire life then it works well and will keep things clean.

If it has never had cleaner in it and has many miles I feel it knocks so much crap off the side of the tank and fuel lines you stand a chance of making it run worse by clogging filters or injector holes.

It happened twice to me on older vehicles years ago. I wouldn't take the chance, just my opinion though.

 STP is basically kerosene and a few detergents - it won't hurt and may help a little. A better cleaner will have PEA in it. Those products are BG-44k (my favorite), Techron, or Redline Si-1. The problem is the companies are constantly reformulating their products so what works this year my not work next year.

I will put a bottle of BG-44k, Techron, or Redline Si-1 at every oil change. I haven't had any fuel related problems but this is something I do with all of my vehicles including the Harley and lawnmower.

 I don't use cleaners very often, maybe once or twice a year.

That being said, I tried seafoam in my ranger (both the intake spray and the can in the fuel tank) and I've been very pleased with both. I'm a seafoam guy, but lots of people also like Marvel Mystery Oil. I haven't tried it myself.

That is one thought that did cross my mind.

 It is my understanding that modern fuels have detergents in them and injector cleaner really is not necessary.

 in my personal experience (i used lucas oil complete fuel treatment) i used to use it about every other fill up. i havent used it in quite a while, and have noticed that for a while there my truck ran a tad rich. could be because i used it so often and then quit, but idk. just something to think about and consider when using it constantly and then deciding to quit.
