Well that's one of those, now i feel dumb, moments :pat

Makes sense they're in red acrylic, rather than painted - is the red ok for you?
For lighting, hmm, maybe white strips facing flat against the back of the letters, that would make they kind of glow a little to the sides.

The RED is a little off from my truck's E4 but I will use them as is for now !

IF they were made from clear acrylic and painted, as advertised, then I was going to create a low light setup mounted behind each letter, sort of creating black letters with a glow behind them for night viewing.
AS I tell my Granddaughter, 3 yr, "No BIGGY", i'll live !
My idea on using an Clear Acrylic and imbedding LEDs in it came from my Cup Holder Lighting Project.   I used 3/8" Clear Acrylic, cut to fit each Cup Holder, put a 1/2" Drill Bit half way in the disc creating a small counter bore with a tip.  I epoxied a flat LED in the hole, and when the lights are on, the light would spread through the whole disc.  Need to work on the brightness, maybe a dimmer.   Sorry got carried away !

BUT, yes it was a dumb move on my part. I never checked to see if the protection paper peeled off or not. I actually thought the paper was used to help separate the parts from the cutting and painting tables.

It'll come together, maybe not how you planned, some something will fall into place.

If you ever do decide that you want to do something like this, you should check into the legality of it. Red lights on the front of the vehicle or blue anywhere are reserved for emergency vehicles only. Expect trouble if you go with red or blue lights in the grille.

Also, even if you use white LEDs, you could run afoul of the limitation on the number of "forward facing lights" -  most states allow a maximum of 4. Some police might let it slide but this is just the kind of thing the CHP loves to go after.

Thx Bob.
It is FINISHED !  Getting me in the mode for the power door conversion.
Stud mounted in Letters; Backing Plate made, waiting to be painted black and the Tube Grille.

Letters mounted on Tube Grille, that GD Paper Protective Coating... mistook it for the rear of the letter.

Backing plate, drilled for mounting studs, flats, locks and nuts... all S/S !

Letters Mounted but without the paper coating !

Full Frontal of the Truck !  Still need to make sure those Surround Clip grabbed and get the Projectors bought and installed.

Close up on the Grille, still have some clear up to be done but at least I have my LARGER LETTERS in RED !

The letters are their bright RED but is more of an ORANGE !  I think I will ride these for a while and think on repainting them.    I still need to remove the grille one more time and make sure all hardware has been Loc-Tited... and the Grille Grip Clips aren't deformed.
I don't think I will be adding lights, but it is always something to think on !   I need new 4" driving lights any suggestions, and buy some Projector Headlights... !

A thing I forgot and if you take out your grille you will probably need to repaint, is the air direction sleeve installed just behind the grille.
I took it out, sanded a little, and painted it black !

The sleeve was worn and showing the white of age !
After sanding, the part took Krylon Black Paint easily !

And the Air Dam, (or what ever we are calling it today) needs extra screws to fully secure it before mounting the grille back in.
Ask me how I know... !

I added five Large Headed Sheet Metal Screws with Washers, three across the mid section of the Air Dam, above the existing Mounting Pins, and two along the lower edge; it pulled it all in tight. Drill the holes first and do not over tighten, you can get the screws tight but you are working with fiber board and plastic.

Been thinking and looking at the LETTERS !
I'm now thinking they could have been a little larger and spaced a little further apart.  (I know... just me ) !

I will be ordering one inch taller and one inch wider letters in RED, but will be painting them E-4 RED this time around.

I found the look but it just isn't right... time to correct MY problem !

Probable won't do the change until I have the headlights done, which is taking far longer to find the TIME to do it... landscaping around the house... a little !

I have a 07 6 panel grill and I wish I could do something with it. I thought about trying to make a raptor style but there isn't anything to work with, and I have no idea where to find someone to make one and if wanting something different would be worth the expense for me. I cant wait to see how yours looks.

Thanks, hoping for the best too !

This will be my fourth grille mod, one was the Early Bronco Lettering, second was an STX GrilleInstall which failed, three is the one I have now and then there will be another.

After I checked and double checked the Letter Size, I thought I was going to be ok but after a while the letters just looked too small.
So that means larger letters and this time a strip of Aluminum behind the letters and approximately and inch higher, and it will extend across the whole grille.
Just thinking out loud right now my Graphics Designer, my daughter, has already pulled the files and is adjusting the letter size and will print me some samples on regular paper, we will see how things look.

Maybe the next one will be it !

Or this one. I know they are raptor knock offs because I was searching it out for my truck but I thought these 2 might help you size your lettering

Thanks, I will copy the images and compare the spacing when I do the Letter size checking !

I got the paper templets for the letters from the designer, I will cut them out and try to put together a comparison.

Thanks for the assist !

p.s. These are F150's... right ?

Yes they are f150s. You can buy the raptor style letters off alibabi (Korean ebay) in all colors and sizes pretty cheap but I understand you have your own source close to home.

Both have aftermarket led headlamps. I think they are Spyder brand.

This is what I wanted but it's a photoshop of a 2010-2011 raptor on a ranger. You can tell by the headlights

This one doesn't look bad !
Not sure where it came from but it is a new grille and headlights but the body looks like a Ranger.
I would buy it !
Do you have an Web Address for it ?

Looking at this front end a few times, more like ten times...  I think Ford would have done well with this as a new front end for the Ranger, I like it !

I think it is a Photo Shop job though !

A different look, but it is a '04 up Grille Shell, won't fit my '03.

I tried to rework a '04 Ranger Sport Grille to fit my '03 Shell... NOT !

Ah. Good to know. I've thought about trying to get an stx grill but the hood goes  up over the grill on my 07 sport.

Yes the red ranger is a photoshop job. Otherwise I'd buy it in a heartbeat. If I could find a shop to make one I'd share it with the forum but so far all I've found are people who create a one off and cant reproduce the results.

Last night I found a thread on a explorer raptor grill that turned out better than any of the others I've seen. It was a one off because he couldnt reproduce it. It was made from aluminum and painted but he never made a jig. Hope I dont get an infraction for posting the link to another forum. It's an old thread. You might be able to do this because you have a helper who can make it for you.

I like that one^^^. Not because I want my ranger to look like a raptor but because I like that grill much better than this one much better. I need new head lights lenses. Lol

Eddie Money,
I attempted to put the '04 STX Inner Grille inside of the '03 Shell but the shape isn't right.

Gave up and got the Blk S/S Bar Grille.
Then the letter thing popped in my head.

The Explorer Grille doesn't look as good the Ranger Picture...  NOW that I like... !

All we need is someone to make it !
I think this Grille, the Headlights, and the Marker Grille Lights are by far the best I have seen so far !
And I too would go for this one in a second, that's faster than a New York Minute !

Unfortunately the explorer grill is closer to the actual shape of our ranger grill. The red ranger with the raptor grill photo shopped would require fabricating fenders to accept the f150 lights and modification to the hood because rangers hoods go up over the grill, at least my 07 does. Then theres the size of the f150 grill. Havent been close enough to measure one yet but I think they are a lot wider than a ranger grill

I was thinking using the Ranger Headlights, then fitting the Grille in-between the Ranger Headlights.
OR... something similar, fit inside of the '03 Grille Shell.

Smell SMOKE... :brute, just how big are the F-150 Headlights like those in the picture ?  LoL !

If Ford used that grille on their new Ranger, I wouldn't be looking elsewhere for a new Truck, actually the new Ranger being so Car-Like, I am going with an old idea... 1952 Ford F-1 !!!

The STX Grille, the '03 Grille goes under the hood so I thought it would allow easier alignment but the problem, mentioned before, is the shape of the lower portion of the '03 Shell; just a little off.   I thought the basic shape of the two grille shells would have been the same except for the top and the hood actually changed to fit it... !  Funny how it is off !
