lol good thinkin! bundle and save. Now this is some strange weather for North Idaho in December, or so I have been told.

Instead of this being frozen solid we are having snow followed by rain followed by flooding and now our ditches and ponds that usually do not run unitl spring are full, threatening to flood. Our road is basically a plowed piece of slick ice with patches of dirt for 2 miles from the house to the gate.....yikes.
We are hoping for colder temps and more snow.
This should be frozen solid and I should be on skis/tracks not boots and studded tires.

No reason to watch Nat Geo when it happens right in your back yard, our "mini yukon":

Anyways that cannot stop progress!!! Holley has arrived and we are getting familiar
Here is the 3.5" touchscreen where the magic happens:

Terminator X Max, with built in LED status lights, MAP sensor vacuum line, trans controls and built in accessory controls for things like cooling fan, nitrous shot, you know the basics
Drool drool🤤🤤

More goodies to be incorporated into the new "premier" package LOL. Double din stereo and display for camera's, Lowrance wayfinder

360 degree 4 camera system with sonar
It even comes with grid line mats to lay on the floor and calibrate the camera's wicked wicked cool. Only thing missing is a 3rd person drone to follow you around and record the action from god view!!

Time to start laying this all out in the truck and make a list of junk yard donor parts needed for the EATC, power windows, power seats and power locks/keyless

Merry Christmas!!!

Wow that's some impressive gear.
Sonar? for deep water crossings? :D

The weather here has been very strange too. LOTS of snow from end of october. Then none then rain. Temp all over the place for example positive temps beginning last week, then -27 celsius Thursday morning, positive temps again saturday, rain etc...
Looks similar to your pics in the lower parts of the property

Edit: i just remembered the name from my youth on dads old sailboat. Lowrance as in chartplotter/radar?

I'm sure 410customs could figure out how to mount the transom some how. Lol. Would be cool for deep crossings ...

Yes, it's the same chartploter as on boats minus the transom. It's used overland as a chartploter too. Great for finding your way back to a location and finding your way home...

Yes in fact your timing is perfect.
The new Brett built 4r70w transmission that Brett was going to ship me 3 months ago, is arriving TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had some Covid delays, getting a private party transmission shipped from CO to IDAHO proved to be a big PITA with the lockdowns in place, but Brett got it done and the trans will arrive to me TODAY!
This means I can stab the auto, hang the trans crossmember and start putting the suspension together...
I will be MOONLIGHTING on this truck the rest of June, July and into August to get this truck built, running and driving for Eddie :)
Here we go! The next thing you will see here is me unboxing a fresh 4r70w :)

holy smokes at the top of this page the water out back was still frozen sheets of ice. Now it is June and everything is soooooooo green.

Anyways I have the fresh built transmission in my hands!! WOOOO HOOOO!
Yes thanks Brett, it took quite a bit of effort to build and ship this sucker...but now we have a crate, a shipping carrier and a plan, so in the future shipping these back and forth will be much easier.
The best part is James took the V8 sport trac over to his brothers house to pickup the crate :) V8 sport trac picking up the trans for a v8 Ranger and when they slid the crate into the back of the sport trac they removed it from his brothers truck bed which is a 98 Ranger v8 LMFAO!!! She is in good hands.

Brett built quite a shipping crate!

I love the sticker!!
Yeah buddy! Here we go...................

The GOD View, wondering why there can't be a computer controlled Drone, that will follow the vehicle automatically, correct for wind variances, and capture the movements.   Maybe be able to adjust sighting objectives so you can push a button and have a better side view.
Funny no one has done this yet, an "Automatic Following Drone"... you guys have to remember this date, so when I come out with it no other company can claim the idea !

NICE Project.

OH ya, the Transmission Company... a new one ?

So what are the goodies in that transmission?

"Follow me" drones exist they use them a lot to film snowboarders, skiers, downhill mtb, enduro etc..
They follow you along while avoiding trees etc...

transmission is a full rebuild, not reman
All current Sonnax upgrades installed, 98-01 solenoid and wiring pack, all new hard and soft parts, new /latest converter (stock stall)
Brett modified valve body to remove lazy factory shift settings and firm up the 1-2 shift. Nothing crazy here, just a good solid rebuild with a few "tricks" to eliminate the factory weak spots.
Brett is a good friend of mine, he and I have been wrenching on these trucks together for 20+ years now, we figured out much of this conversion stuff together. Brett took it upon himself many years ago to start rebuilding our auto transmissions himself. After doing many many transmissions over the years (like learning the A4LD and 5r55e inside and out) he has basically set himself up with a complete trans shop at his house. He has gotten so good at this that he is in high demand for Ford and Chevy transmission builds. Brett is the transmission/v drive technician for a Baja race team that races million dollar trophy truck in Baja twice a year. So he started a business and took it all legit, HPP is the result. You want something built, painted, repaired, customized, or wired PROPERLY then Brett is your guy...but you gotta get on the waiting list as he does this on the side, just like the rest of us he also has a real job.

That's freakin cool. Stories about how people went from a little hole in the wall kinda to being that someone who people go to when they need something fixed is awesome. Good for him!

The Company's Name,  "HPP", is there any more to it ?

I searched on it and found all kinds of stuff but no transmission companies.

Let me know  ?

Add "transmission" and you should get a result to get you there. FYI: he needs to finish his web page. The only thing useful there is a phone number.

Here is a copy of the transmission invoice from Brett so you can see what goes into a full rebuild

Trans is going IN!!!!!!! Once the trans is hung and supported by a crossmember I can focus on the front suspension and gearing!
I have cleared all other projects, the blue truck is coming front and center for the next few months (however long it takes)
Sorry for delays, Spring and Summer get CRAZY busy with all the repairs and upgrades needed around here (friends and family)

Back at it folks.......schedule is cleared the hot part of summer is here, perfect time of year to moonlight in the shop = Time to focus on the 07!!!!!!

I spent half a day blowing the dust off the truck and collecting all the boxes of parts, then I started turning wrenches..........

The 2007 ranger no longer has a rear axle, it has been removed.
The front differential has also been dropped
The front 2007 Ranger dana 35 SLA differential and a 98 Explorer 31 spline 8.8 axle will be headed to town to be locked and geared.
Plan is 4.56 ring and pinion, ARB air locker for the rear

Next up it was time to install the new Brett built, High Plains Performance 4r70w transmission and new torque converter

with the trans on the trans jack I fill the converter with one quart of mercon V and stab it up, 3 clicks all the way back. The converter hub is also treated to a light film of assembly lube

Key to stabbing an auto trans is to get the correct angle from engine block to bellhousing
Then line up the converter studs with the holes in the flexplate. Make sure the scatter shield and alignment dowls are in their correct positions and then finally bring the trans to the engine using some bellhousing bolts

Line it up

start two bolts

check again

Now tighten BH bolts to bring trans flush with engine block

Stabbed and aligned

Now install converter nuts, 14mm, 4ea. 5.0 uses a 15/16" socket on the crank pulley to turn the engine around and gain access to converter studs. Engine rotates clockwise

The first converter nut will draw the converter forward 3/8", this is how you know you have stabbed a Ford RBV auto transmission correctly

Install remaining BH bolts
Install transmission dipstick tube and retainer bolt.
Now cleaning the transmission cooler lines in preparation for install

Now for the transmission mount

1-1/8" of height was removed from the stock cross member with plasma cutter to accommodate our new Prothane mount
New piece of plate was plasma cut to fit on top, surfaces prepped with grinder and part fully welded.
Cross member was test fit and measured for the mount holes.

small notch needed for bolt clearance Clarence

Crossmember was cleaned, de burred, and given about 5 coats of flat black tractor enamel

Nice of Brett to include a drain plug

Kn

You can see the this 4r70w is using the 99-01 style solenoid pack and hard wiring harness.........ooooh la la. Anytime we run a 4r70w we ditch the older solenoids and wiring for this improved version

Back at it again tomorrow.
Next up is custom 07 ranger to 5.0 returnless fuel rail fuel line I have sorted out
07 ranger to 5.0 power steering pump high pressure line solution I have been working on

Install is happening now stay tuned
We are running this kit with drop brackets (Superlift) so we can run a longer threaded body then most kits........Maybe even enough length for dual rate coils? we shall see

First up lets install that long travel suspension shall we?
Time to clean up the shop, took a bunch of work just to get to this point!

Truck was hand washed and spray waxed in place, had to remove months of built up dust from under the car cover!!

Notice something missing? That's right! We removed the front bumper in favor of a new bumper/winch setup (more on that later)

I had some help in the shop

Disassembly complete! Time to build her up

Step 1, mock up front suspension
Remember we are planning to run the True Travel Dynamics +2 kit along with the superlift drop brackets and extended knuckles
I need to mock up the suspension so we can measure for new shocks, this way the shocks can be ordered

The frame rails were first scraped and wire wheeled clean where we will be working

Next the upper shock mount needs to be cut off, after much debate I decided a sawzall would make a clean cut....sure enough!

The stock shock bucket is only designed to handle the load of the shock absorber, while the torsion bars handle the weight of the vehicle.
For our suspension we will be using coilover shocks to suspend the truck, no more torsion bars!! So this piece has to go!
Sawzall with Milwaukee torch blade made such a clean cut there was very little grinding to do to remove all remnants of the oil shock mount

Shop dog approved

Here you can see what is left after careful cutting with saw

Now much grinding and prep to do so we can measure, place and tack weld in our new dual shock mount
After the grinder

All remnants of the old bucket erased

Time to tack weld in the new shock tower, instructions from the suspension kit say to start with it 1-3/4" back from the front UCA hanger

Hard to see but it is set with 1.75" exactly at the metal for the front UCA hanger

The AC canister is just a bit too low, the canister brackets were un bolted to gain us some clearance

After MUCH deliberation and testing the fit of BOTH brackets from the kit the shock tower was finally tack welded in place. TACK WELDED> Final welding will come MUCH LATER
Weld through primer is used to protect/coat the back side of the new tower as well as the now clean frame rail surfaces

New tower tacked in place, 3 large tack welds used placed in a spot where I can cut them again if needed.

Now we moved our attention to the superlift drop brackets, they need to be in place in order to correctly locate the LCA and knuckle
UCA (upper control arm) was hung using the stock bolts and alignment shims, perfect for mock up.

Now the UCA, LCA and Superlift knuckle are loosely bolted in place using the correct spacers and hardware provided with the True Travel kit

Now we are getting somewhere! I spent much time with this setup checking the travel, let me tell you this kit is impressive, it will travel way further then we need it to before hitting frame/maxing out the uniballs in both the full stuff and full droop positions.
Time to measure for shocks. Looks like a 10" stroke, 2" body threaded body and bypass shock will fit the bill
King 2.0 coilovers with a 10" stroke are 17.5" collapsed and 27.5" fully extended. Yes we will be using KINGS

So I fabricated a shock "placeholder" which allows us to check shock tower alignment and test shock length in all 4 front shock positions.
The Superlift bump stop was bolted up just for testing, to see where "stock" up travel is, I know from the True Travel instructions that this kit is designed to use 7" of shock stroke at the shock mounts, This will give me my full droop and full stuff positions.

Next pictures will show the wheel travel available!
I can tell you the superlift drop brackets and knuckle have this long travel kit cycling cleanly, same angles as the stock LCA suspension.
