More work coming, and no, this is occasional driver/use for purpose truck.

One day if a nice cluster shows up requiring little effort/outlay to get, it'd be cool to go actual blue.

The cleaning of that top cover is weird, non of my products are removing that 'white' stuff, which honestly looks like sun fade, but just moving my nails over it caused it to look black again. But if i use an abrasive, it will look like i sandpapered it i'm sure.

Picked up a late 90's Mustang dome light, while initially thinking i had a job ahead of me to wire it into the stock mounts, it literally screwed right in with no changes/issues.
Had to clean up the connections a little as there was no festoon bulb in the main section when i got it.

Mount point has the extra wire in there so map lights will work if the housing has them (it does)

Forgot to grab a picture of it cleaned and mounted, so here is one with an LED fitted.

And here with both map lights turned on as well.

On my way out the junk yard, i saw a chrome exhaust tip on a Ranger, i realised it wasn't actually fastened on, someone had tried to weld it (badly) so twisting and pulling, it just came off, they only wanted a couple of bucks for it.

After finding this bolt for it, i figured i'd just drill a hole in the exhaust to attach it.

This is what's left of the weld after i used a hammer to knock off all the spattered weld that wasn't fully attached.

Doesn't look that bad, i only washed it, no metal polish or other cleaner.

I have a problem with my exhaust when i got the truck, it looks like the PO probably reversed into something, i can't bend it back.

Also from the junkyard, a 4 litre Exploder was very cooperative with it's 130a alternator.

Autozone tested it "ok" so i went ahead and connected it up

It's a little larger overall than the old 95a unit, but the constrictions around it gave enough to allow fitting.

The pulley was actually slightly larger in diameter than the stock unit, but i don't think that'll cause a problem.

Guess i'll keep the 95a unit as a spare? turns out it was already a reman.

I bought these some time ago, just got round to fitting the rears.

The old Monroe Spectrums weren't too bad and i figured not too many miles on them due to when that model became available, but i wanted a smoother ride on the road.

Looks like you took a bit a time cleaning more than anything! I tried to do the same, but near the end of getting everything back together, It just kinda went together instead of cleaning first.

Oh, cleaning the dials? Yeah, not too long tbh, 303 works very fast on a microfiber.

No more updates? You've done awesome so far! All good upgrades to bring some life back into that thing.

I like what you did to the cluster. My '11 has a basic ugly cluster that is really plain. I'd like to change the face and throw some LEDs in there. From what I've read, they're all solder in LEDs already so they'd be a pain to change.

Maybe you could get some seats from a newer Ranger or even an explorer to fix your ripped seats. I wish I had a junk yard close by!

Sorry, i've really dropped the ball updating this thread, i was just thinking about it today, i've done various things i need to update this thread with, i'll try and get on it this weekend.

I'd love new seats, or even new replacement covers, even have a price/source for 04 type covers that will fit mine, original Ford material, but $480 for them is too steep. Nothing good in the JY for seats when i went.

Alright, some more work i 'forgot' to update with :)

I got what seemed to be the correct passenger A-pillar trim for grab handles from the pick n pull, only the one as the other side was split from the roll over. Figured it would be a good start at least, help my Wife getting in and out.

As you can see, nope, even when dated 2002, it was for a newer model, it has larger stand-offs and a different line. Pictures below show where the old trim was and was is and is not covered by this version.

It have some worn/rusted areas in various places, nothing bad here in the PNW as we don't use salt, but i wanted to treat it with some rust converter i imported from the UK.
Shown first with soapy water to clean/degrease, then after 24 hours from treatment, goes black, can be top coated.

Anyone know why/how the paint seems to have just disappeared in places?

In the bed, seems like there was a bed liner rubbing or something. Especially since it's mostly on flat surfaces.

Yeah, looked like it had a topper on it, i'd love a liner, a Ford one so it doesn't rust further underneath.

This was when i did the front shocks, first pic showing how it should be, second showing where it moved to.

Obviously a dramatic reconstruction, as i almost shat my pants for the actual event, the wheel was off and i was partially under the well on the shock!!!

Haha, get you a good set of jack stands. Sometimes a jack (even a new one) can fail and give no warning. Not good if you're under.

At minimum I'd use a big ass chunk of wood or something, or throw the tire under there for "just in case" insurance.

I've no idea how/why, but taking these shrouds off was way harder than they should have been.
When i finally got one off, i wiped my hands off and thought i'd re-used a shop towel with red grease on it. It wasn't grease :(

I can't even remember why the lower bolt sheered anymore, needless to say i put the old ones back.

Ratchet spanners really help.

These was as tight as i could get them, there is no Allen insert at the top or flattened sides to get a spanner on to hold the piston while you tighten.

The ride is so much better than the Monroe's that were on it - they couldn't have been more than 30k on them, but two of 4 didn't extend back on their own, 1 of the other two took two days to extend back and the last didn't feel smooth compressing it.

This doesn't seem to be covered on Rangers, which is odd, as it's going to get mud, snow, water and general crap thrown all over it during normal use (the back of the fog lights)

Finally got my grille painted up, i was going to plasti-dip it, but ended up using Rustoleum plastic spray paint, it's excellent, would use again.

I took more pics and i'll post up a 'how to' for removing the grille, the clips can be a little weird.

I hate changing shocks for the reason you mentioned, no way to keep it from spinning as you tighten the top nut.

That grille came out nice. I do like the honeycomb grilles, opens up the front end. Plus it enables you to throw some lights behind there too. Your headlights look really good for being from an '02. Someone took care of them, or has already changed them out.

Finally got some A-pillar trims with grab handles that fit correctly! :) (thanks Kealel!)

Got the rest of the parts on order, haven't decided how to fit the rivnuts yet, thinking of cheating with a bolt/nut and grease. Have to wait on delivery end of next week at the earliest.

It is the type we used back in the late 70's when I was a new car prep tech at a Ford dealer. We used it to install the riv nuts in the roofs of station wagons for the roof racks & on the passenger side door to install mirrors on cars not equipped from the factory.
