I have a long weekend as I had today and Monday off. I spent some quality time with the 357 and 45GAP at the range today. I was the only person there for the first hour and the RO's let me do some holster drills and quick fire mag replacement drills (big no-no at this range). The GAP ran flawlessly with the SD ammo as I burnt off 10 10-round mags. It choked on 20% of my coated SWC target ammo for the 4 mags that I shot. It was either a burr on the lip of the case or defect on lip of the grease grove that prevented it from going into battery. That last batch of SWC bullets needs a tighter crimp when I load them back up and a bit more scrutiny on the cases during case prep.

I dialed in a 38+P 158gr heavy plated HP bullets. It is at the top end of the spectrum for 38 and is a soft load for the S&W 357Mag. In a supported stance I had just over a 2" pattern with 6 shots. Unsupported two hand grip it was a 5" pattern. In DA, one handed, I can hit the silhouette. In all honesty in DA two handed I am not much better. I am used to a 3 to 5 lb trigger pull and the 9-10 lb DA pull just throws me off.

The double action throws off most shooters.  The length of the pull accompanied with the extra effort it takes makes for prime opportunity to miss the target! :'(

The DA trigger on my 92AF INOX is about 6 & 1/2 lbs. The single action is about 4 & 1/2. I do not have the issues with that gun. The 10 lb pull of the S&W is what is throwing me. All my shots tend to go low to the left in a large pattern.

I had the same problem with a Glock 10mm that had a 9 lb LEO transfer bar that a buddy of mine owned. He picked it up off of AIM surplus and was fed up with it. I did the 25 cent trigger polish job on it, polished the ramp, put in a minus connector and polished the safety plunger. It was a different gun afterwards.  A  Glock longslide 10mm is on my "want list".

I would like to pick up a used G40 or G20 from somebody that thinks it is too much gun.  A Glock Armorer told me that they can stand much more than SAAMI standards. His recommendation was to push it until the Glock smile was evident and then back off 10%. Then the 10mm is roughly equivalent to a .41 Magnum but with much more firepower.

Interesting.  On DA, I tend to go high and to the right (right hand shooter).  I can't imagine a 10lb trigger pull.

BTW, you lost me at the "Glock Smile".  Never heard that term before, but then, I'm not a Glock fan.

The "Glock Smile" is where the case bulges where it is unsupported at the slide.  This is a problem with too much pressure. Other manufacturer's had the problem also until the SAAMI specifications changed on the 10mm case to make the case wall thicker near the base.

I think a Glock is like the small block Chevy engine. It is a slop machine. It can be way out of tolerances and still work. When properly tuned it is awesome.

The Air National Guard unit I retied from had Glock's national LEO sales manager, an armorer instructor, and 4 of it armorers in it. I was good friends with them and got a lot of insight on how to tune them up.

Interesting analogy!  Glock makes a VERY reliable product.  If I were to have someone point a pistol at me with the intention of using it, I would pray it WASN'T a Glock!  My lack of knowledge on their products is probably why they all look the same to me! LOL

I wasn't a Glock fan either until the G37 45 GAP came out. The LEO Sales Manager got an order together  for our Guard unit that was about $50 cheaper than the Blue  Label pricing. Blue Label prices are private guns sold at a discount to law enforcement, firefighters, and military. It is usually about $100 off retail. For me it was a highly discounted Glock and if I didn't like it I could re-sale it at a profit. When I got it I was not impressed. It had a gritty trigger and was a bit clunky. One of the Armorers in my guard unit took my gun and polished the internals/slide, installed a 3lb minus transfer bar, and installed a set of Meprolight sights. It ran slicker than wet bird  .

I also found out the 45 GAP was originally designed to be more powerful than the 10mm as a 45 running at +p 9mm pressures. It has a beefier slide and thicker breach than any of the other Glock pistols. There was a marketing issue as Glock didn't want to alienate the 45 ACP crowd so they dropped the specifications to slightly less than what 45ACP +P was so that the 45 ACP crowd would still have bragging rights. One of my Armorer buddies who reloads was running a 45GAP 185 grain bullet at 1500 fps which is just above what a 10mm can run a 185gr bullet. He finally had consistent case failures when he pushed it up to 1580 fps.

I have pushed 185gr bullets up to 1300fps with no issues but my hottest load I keep on hand is a 185 Hydroshok JHP that is running at 1100 fps. It has about the same kick as a hot Glock 10mm load and a lot more than a 45ACP+p. The only downfall of that round is the size of the case limits the full size magazine to 10 rounds. That wasn't an issue 16 years ago as that was the max that was available to any handgun. The other issue with the 45GAP is that it has become a boutique caliber as it has fallen out of favor with law enforcement and the public following is very small. Of my pistols the G38 45GAP is my preferred carry piece.  It is the mid size GAP gun but it still has a full grip but the magazine holds 8 rounds. I have been on the lookout for a G39 Baby GAP that is almost the same size as the G26 9mm Baby Glock but those are few as they didn't make many of them.

Joe Bob's Outfitters has the Holosun Paralow Red Dot on sale right now for $130 ($75 off). I am thinking about getting one for my AR-9 pistol.

That's a pretty good price. I have to wait until after the 21st, when I get paid my youtube monies, then I will be able to afford something.

Honestly? I hate it. It is SUPER unreliable. BUT it is the old version. That was my wife's gun when we got married 12 years ago, and she got it from her dad, and it wasn't new when he bought it. I am not sure exactly how old it is, but from my understanding my experience with it is common with the old P22, and the new P22q is supposed to be A LOT better. I am tempted to pick one up just to see. The FDE, is my Colt 1911 22 Long Colt, made my walther and it is my favorite of the bunch, so if the new p22q shares anything with it, it should be pretty good.

I have an old style as well.  Don't shoot it much now that my son has his own collection of guns.  Had it at the range one day and was having major problems with failure to feed, failure to lock back on last round.  I think it may be the magazines though.

I bought a Taurus TX22 for my wifes birthday, I usually don't like taurus products but this one is a keeper. A little big for a 22 but makes it more stable. We have 3 X 22's in the house.

We have 6 22 firearms in the house.  4 rifles and 2 handguns.  Thinking about going in halfsies with my son on a case of 22 LR.  5000 rounds... "happy box"! LOL

Half of 5000 rounds of 22LR? During the 90's I would pick up a brick of 22 once a month and shot less than a brick a year since then. It was $5 to $8 a brick back then.  I haven't purchased 22LR in almost 20 years.

MIKE, we may want to do a deal where I trade you some 22LR for some toilet paper.  :-)

I pulled out my Tanfoglio single action revolver about 3 times last year for a range day. It is accurate and the action is tight but it is a PIA to clean.  I have had a 10/22 for 30+ years and it probably has had less than 100 rounds through it. My go-to 22 rifle is a Ted Williams magazine fed bolt action with a vernier sight that was made for Sears by Winchester.  There was a time I could shoot a beer bottle cap at 100 feet with it. I can't do that now as my hands aren't as steady and my sight is not good enough. I can still pop a squirrel in the head at 35 yards.

In a few weeks, that might be a deal... er, for one of us!  We have plenty of TP right now, but with 3 in the house, I may start saving my "business" for when I'm at work! LMAO

I've heard a lot of good things about the TX22. But I don't know if I need another larger .22 hand gun... if they sold it in a crazy color like purple, yellow, bright green, or blue I probably would pick one up. Guns in black are just so... boring.
