Nice - A 38 shooting light loads makes a great target gun. The 10-5 was common in the LEO community as a carry piece and will easily handle +P rounds.

Thanks. The wife is the revolver person in the house. We have 2 now, she wants more... saw this at the gun show and it was what she wanted for sure.

good to know. I've only put .38 special through it. i doubt my wife will be interested in shooting +P.

FYI, an unlined, un-molded leather holster will wear the black Armory Kote fairly quickly.

I plan on lining/treating the interior(haven't decided which), as well as wet forming it to the gun. I am waiting on my dies and some other things to show up to finish it up.

all done, Ended up lining it with some black felt. We'll see how it holds up. I needed to cut the strap, I'll be doing that tomorrow when I get some more snaps in.

AIM Surplus has used Law Enforcement trade-in Smith & Wesson Model 65 .357 Magnum stainless steel revolvers in stock  for $420 in stock right now.  These are 4 inch heavy barrel, K-frame, 6 shot .357 Mag/.38 Spl revolvers that have a bobbed trigger so they must be shot double action.

I am short cash since I just got back from vacation or I would have one of these headed to my FFL. This is a great deal on a K-frame 357. The good thing about stainless is that any imperfections in the metal can be buffed out with scotch brite or turned into a pimp gun polishing it on a rouge wheel.

Merry Christmas to me! :)

My son, ArcticWolf1911, bestowed an awesome Christmas gift to me yesterday morning! Been wanting a high-powered weapon light for my CZ P-07 9mm.  This Streamlight TLR-7 is 500 lumens and will light up the entire house (or blind an intruder)!  He even included 4 spare CR123 batteries to go with it! :rock

Of course, I got other gifts, such as some new tools and shop supplies, but you all know what those look like! LOL

The good thing about stainless is that any imperfections in the metal can be buffed out with scotch brite or turned into a pimp gun polishing it on a rouge wheel.

I dropped the hammer on the Model 65 from AIM but the price had dropped to $390 and it is not the bobbed hammer. The only drawback is the etched serial number in the side and lots of holster wear. I am going to wirebrush it out and polish it back - it is stainless. As far as shooting I slugged it at .356 so it has not been shot much. The action is tight but the Pachmayr grips are a bit gummy.  I put a set of Crimson Trace Laser grips on for $130. I have dialed in a 125 gr coated leadhead load at 1170fps for a low 357 mag load that is good for targets. I have some 158gr JHP scheduled for the range next.

What I find interesting is that a low end 125 gr 357Mag load has the same energy as a medium 9mm load . I can push a 125gr bullet in 9 mm up to about 1300 fps before I start to have issues. With the 357mag I can load a 38 Special load a 125gr in the 875-900 fps as a starting point and push it up to 1500 fps as a 357mag load. The 9mm has a sweet spot for 124/125 grain bullets. It can shoot 147 gr bullets but the accuracy drops off and anything larger gets even worse. The 357 likes the 125 grain bullets, the 147 grain, and the 158 grain - I just have to find the optimal speed to push them. Another surprising thing about the 357 is the light recoil. Much less than my 1911 9mm.

This Model 65 Smith is a fun gun to shoot.

I would have to agree about the 9mm sweet spot. There is only so much power in a 9mm load. 115gr is a bit light, I believe.

I believe the power limitation is due to the semi-auto design. All auto's have a narrow power band that is at the upper pressure limits necessary to actuate the mechanics. All of my wheel guns have a much greater range of sending lead down range.

That makes sense. After all, it DOES take a certain amount of energy to slam the slide back to eject the brass.

Wife wants another 22 for her birthday.

They just happened to build a gun shop/range within 2 miles of my house. Lucky us!

So we wander in, she currently has a smith 22C and she fell in love with the full size version.

I am so glad my wife likes guns LOL.

Unfortunately I have an automatic.  If I had a manual I would  have a 410 single shot that would look at home.
