What I find interesting is that a low end 125 gr 357Mag load has the same energy as a medium 9mm load . I can push a 125gr bullet in 9 mm up to about 1300 fps before I start to have issues. With the 357mag I can load a 38 Special load a 125gr in the 875-900 fps as a starting point and push it up to 1500 fps as a 357mag load. The 9mm has a sweet spot for 124/125 grain bullets. It can shoot 147 gr bullets but the accuracy drops off and anything larger gets even worse. The 357 likes the 125 grain bullets, the 147 grain, and the 158 grain - I just have to find the optimal speed to push them. Another surprising thing about the 357 is the light recoil. Much less than my 1911 9mm.

This Model 65 Smith is a fun gun to shoot.
