I know this is an odd place to post this, but I'm trying to get as much help as I can. I'm desperate. I've cross-posted this from a separate forum.

As of late, she's been having trouble keeping food down, either people or dog food. That's evolved into her eating very little to nothing at all. She'll still drink water and milk, but the latter sparingly. When we can get her to eat something, it's only sweet and soft things, like icecream.

For the past couple days, she's had some neck pain that shoots down into her right foot. This has been a thing for a while, but usually nipped easily with her prescribed meds. This time, not so much. The pills still work, but the symptoms come back.

She's fully treated, vaccines and what not. Apparently there is an enzyme in her liver that's elevated. I don't remember the name, but her doctor stressed that it was not a death sentence, just something to keep an eye on. I have noticed, since then, the bare skin around her stomach/breasts area has turned a yellow color as opposed to the pink color it was. Her eyes and gums are still normal. Brings jaundice to mind....

Two years ago, she had a cancer spot or tumor on her hindquarters. Left side I think... Caught it in the very early stages and was promptly removed. Haven't had it creep back up sense. Not sure if that's related or not, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

She's 11, turning 12 this November. All her life, except for the occasional neck pain every great while, she's been very healthy. She would run around and climb all over you like a puppy. For the past two months though.... Not so much. I've noticed she's also shivering more. She stops usually after being under the blankets for a bit. I'll toss out there that last night I believed she felt cold, or rather room temperature to be more accurate. This was on her furred areas, and honestly I don't know how much heat I would normally expect, but this caught me off guard.

Hmm, something else I'll toss out there. Her urine is normally fairly clear. There for a bit she was urinating in the house, reason unknown.

....Not to be gross, but when I cleaned up the mess, I noticed it was a darker/more saturated yellow color and had a bit of a.....beef-ish odor maybe. I can't say I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what it was for certain.

On the same note, her stools seem to be normal.

To get back to food, I'd like to explain that a bit more. I feel it might be the key I'm missing or overlooking. My apologies if this is long or ramblingly.

For her entire life, she would eat almost anything without a care. I did my best to get her the best food for her, taking special care to look at the ingredients, making sure actual food was first on the list and not grain. Something to do with her glands or that nature.

Here recently (~3ish months ago), she started getting sick off her food. We switched around two or three different kinds and eventually gave up. She either couldn't keep it down or flat out refused to eat it. We switched to something else, those Pedigree canned/packet foods. She loved those. That worked for a while, a month maybe. She didn't get sick off those, maybe once, but just started refusing to eat them.

Something I want to make known. When she turned down this food, she consistently begged and would eat people food happily, when we allowed it. She had an appetite. I thought it was just her having an attitude (which was nothing new), and refused to give her table scraps. To my surprise, I realized she wasn't eating her dog food at all despite being hungry. For a very short time (Less than a week) I believed she simply had an attitude. Then I noticed her weight started dropping at an alarming rate.

I don't believe she was starving herself intentionally, so I caved and would give her scraps that were appropriate for her to consume. Beef, chicken, noodles, potatoes, eggs, etc. Nothing spicy, obviously. Eventually, she stopped begging and stopped eating that too. It's near impossible to find something she will eat at all, now. I even got a plain patty and small fries from burger king to try and get her to eat ANYTHING at all. She hasn't eaten hardly in four days. We managed to get her to eat a little bit of granola bar, a fortune cookie, the soft part of about two french fries, and that was it. Refused the patty all together, even after she saw me eat some. She's even refusing peanutbutter, which is something this dog has NEVER done.

The real dead blow for me is her weight. She was hovering around 35/36, a little high for her weight range, but not anything dramatic. I weighed her last night, and she came in at 23.5-23.8. No exaggeration.

I'm at a complete loss. I'm calling the vet tomorrow to talk with her doctor, but in the meantime I'm trying to get every option I possibly can. If this doesn't stop, I'll have to put her down. I'm fighting to stay away from that, but I can't knowingly allow her to suffer. We're not there yet, but we're getting too close for comfort.

I welcome any and every suggestion I can get, and I'm happy to answer any questions. I welcome questions, too. There could very well be something I'm missing. I'm completely out of ideas to try. Again, I'm calling the vet tomorrow. Even if they say there isn't anything that can be done, I can say I did everything in my power to regain her health.

Thank you everyone.

Damn man, I'm sorry to hear that. Dogs are gifts from God, best wishes man.

Most people don't know/realize what dogs are actually allergic to or what foods are actually bad for them. I used to put garlic in my dogs food because "it helps keep their coat shiny" when in reality you could be slowly poisoning your dog. And, this may come as a surprise, but even though foods can hurt/kill dogs, those same foods are in dog foods (I checked). My dog has a sensitive stomach, so I have to be careful. If you've stayed with one brand/type of dog food, cross reference it with the list of food here that is bad for your dog:

  https://pets.webmd.com/dogs/ss/slideshow-foods-your-dog-should-never-eat

Also, do you use rodent repellent stuff or insect repellent stuff in the house? She could've gotten into that or eaten a mouse/bug that had ingested the poison. Best wishes man.

So sorry. Our pets are family, I don't care how they are considered property. I hope his or hers liver isn't failing. Hit hurts so see our fury friends suffer. I just had to put Joseph down a dachshund in April because he broke his back and Angel a cat in March just 3 days from her 29th birthday. It hurts. But on the bright side maybe it is food allergy.

The most we use at home, in regards to pest control, are small plastic (closed with a small open end) ant traps. We haven't had any out for a while so, I don't think that's it. Anything like that we keep well out of her reach.

Thanks for the link, I'm going to check that out.

Sorry to hear that, NoPower. That's no good. I would love it if this turned out to be a simple food allergy. You'd see me jumping for joy. As of right now, however, I have no evidence to lead me to believe this is the cause.

A couple things I'd like to toss out there that I hadn't considered last night.

The weight she's lost has been over the course of about a year. Only in the recent two months has she lost any significant weight in a short period, about 5 or 6 pounds.

Two months ago, I had her there at the vet for a checkup. This was mandatory so I could get her more flea and tick prevention pills. This was when we found out about the enzyme. Both a blood and urine sample were taken. He pointed out that on her lower back, she had two fat nodules/deposits there. He told me this was a good thing, and a sign of a healthy dog. So, whatever has happened is very recent.

I called the vet's office and her doctor will be in tomorrow. I'll call back and get some advice.

I'm a cat guy, but I like dogs too. If a cat pees on clothes or furniture instead of cat box or outdoors and urine is dark or bloody it's usually a urinary tract infection. Not sure if dogs do something similar. Dogs are famous for eating undigestables too. I hope it's something simple. My cats are family too so I know how you feel. Thoughts n prayers to your family.

Sorry to hear about your Beagle. Dogs become a part of the family and it is heart-wrenching when they have health issues in their twilight years. I hope the Vet can find a cure. But the average Beagle lives for about 12-15 years. The purer the breed the shorter their life.

I am sorry to come across like a SOB about this.

It's fine, tsquare. Facts are facts. If it's her time to go, then so be it. Won't stop me from trying to fix the problem, though.

Eddie, I can't vouch for other dogs, but mine will urinate in a specific room if she's angry with someone. As of late it seems to be purely random, although she's favoring the dining room. Why I have no idea.

I just got off the phone with the vet. She does have Jaundice. Her chances of recovery aren't zero, but close enough. I don't think I could afford the treatment even if it was 100%.

Last night she couldn't hardly stand. We stayed with her all night. This morning, we had to put her down. She stopped drinking entirely, couldn't use that front right leg anymore....

It was time. I didn't realize it prior, but her entire mouth was yellow.

I'm satisfied there's nothing that could have been done. Part of me will always believe there could have been, but there wasn't.

Gone, but never forgotten.

This is true. That much will help me sleep at night. Still won't be easy, though.

Sorry for you loss.  Best you can do for them is love them, give them a good life, and when the time comes to not let them suffer needlessly.  Sounds like she had a good life.

Thank you both. I did all I could to give her the life she deserved. It was a very hard thing to do, but seeing her suffer I think would have been harder.
