I'm a cat guy, but I like dogs too. If a cat pees on clothes or furniture instead of cat box or outdoors and urine is dark or bloody it's usually a urinary tract infection. Not sure if dogs do something similar. Dogs are famous for eating undigestables too. I hope it's something simple. My cats are family too so I know how you feel. Thoughts n prayers to your family.
