Good Morning all,

I contacted a guy, James Reading, at Weldcraft Wheels, about widening a set of aluminum wheels, FX4 Style, that were hard to find in a width that was suitable for 12.50 tires, if not down right impossible to find.

He responded, and was very easy to talk to about the situation, he said, "They could widen FX4 Aluminum Wheels from 1 to 3 inches, at a cost of $200.00 each wheel".

Yes $800.00 for four of them but since I have not found any I was thinking this could be an avenue for someone that wanted the FX4 look and had a few dollars to spend.

New aluminum wheels run up there and the FX4 are a special wheel so I think it is a good price.  I have not done any research on the Company and this I leave to you but it was just something that popped in my head and I looked it up !

Doing machine work myself, actually sounds a little low especially for a good quality job. He must be tooled already for this type of alteration and has a spin fixture to weld uniformly on the diameter.

IMO it is a good price for that much work but I bet he still makes you sign a disclaimer.

I have seen some really good tig welding but I don't know if I would want a 1 to 3 inch welded in the middle of my wheel. A 12.50 tire can be mounted on a 8.5" wide wheel but a 10" would be better. I would also be concerned about rubbing with the front end. ProComp, Mickey Thompson, Method, and Dick Cepek all make 15x10 alloy wheels for less than $200 each. Check out 4wheelparts.com

For what its worth, Weldcraft does amazing work even when it comes to just repairing a wheel; aftermarket or OEM, steel or aluminum. They have quite the repertoire in many automotive industries.

And @Jaman, yes they have a full shop and services and do everything from specialty one-offs to small production/manufacturing efforts. I think they even give small nickle tours of the facility if you're in the area; which I believe is Livonia or is it Garden City in Michigan?

Have done work with them in the past.. excellent service

No, it's not an FX4 Alcoa, but it isn't far off...

This is a 15x8

Not enough for a 12.50 but it will handle an 11.50

I want to say someone from the Bullitt Mustang forums used them for widening, machine puts down about 800 to the wheels, no issues there.

Michael, are those wheels on your Ranger? Are they American Racing?

@Mike: Yes and no. Those are my summer wheels, so they are in a cocoon right now. Not sure I will put them back on though. Yes, they are American Racing Baja AR172. I customized the center caps to resemble the FX4 Alcoas.

They make them in many diameters and widths, including 10".

You are exactly right.  They do this a lot.  They are big in the lightning community for widening wheels
