 2004 Ranger XLT FX4 Offroad, 16 inch wheels.

This truck has OEM rotors on the front so the question is, do I stick with semi-metallic pads or go to ceramic.

 Ceramic, always. You know all the cars and trucks you see where the front wheels are 3 shades darker than the rears? Semi metallic pads. It's rust dust.

Ceramic is awesome.

 If you are not changing rotors I would go semi-metallic or the kevlar organic if it is available if I didn't know what was comimg off.  With new rotors I will go with ceramic. I don't want the drilled and slotted rotors unless they are OEM replacements. Drilled and slotted rotors will eat up any pads and for street driving as they are overkill.  I am not street racing and I have a pressure washer to clean the wheels. 

Ceramic pads will tend to run a bit hotter. The rotors/pads will need to be broken in. Ceramic is also more prone to warp rotors with heavy braking. If I am not having any rotor vibrations I tend to change pads early.

 I went with EBC pads.  A bit more dust, better bite.  Along with their slotted rotors.  Truck stops great now, better than stock.

FYI, the rotors are not usually actually warped, it takes a   ton of heat to warp something like that.  It is usually uneven pad material transfer to the rotor that gives the 'pulsing pedal' that feels like warped.  A quick turn and they are fine.

 Wow it seems like our opinions are all over the map on this.

I choose ceramic, they are usually more consistent and better quality, not because someone else told me I should.

Also I simply hate that black dust that forms on the front wheels, will go to any lengths to avoid it short of a car wash.

I have only warped a rotor once, front brake hose on a Corsica wouldn't let the fluid go backwards and I literally drove till I smelled something. It was the hub cap melting. Rotor pulsed after that.

I do not like the drilled rotors. I have seen no evidence (except from drilled rotor manufacturers) that they run cooler, and if you think about it you are reducing the surface area the pads can clamp on. It has been years but I read dozens of independent studies. They sure do look cool though.

 Rotors (discs) aren't drilled for cooling, they are drilled to stop the gas given off under heavy braking making the pads 'plane'.

 I was always taught ceramic pads on stock rotors would chew up rotors quicker. 

I have Powerstop Truck & Tow rear brakes on my 8.8. LOVE THEM!
