The 09 Ranger I picked up on December had a new clutch, master, slave and flywheel installed in November. The clutch engages really quick and it is hard to slip it when starting out in 1st gear. Is it possible that engaging too quickly will shorten the life of the clutch?

I would think it would make it last longer but possibly put strain on other parts of the system.

Anyone else think that?

I'm remembering the new clutch that I had put in my '97 Ranger.

Grabbed so quick (i.e. friction point close to the floor) it was virtually undrivable.

Ended up being some air in the master cylinder.

Not saying that's your problem, just a thought.

^^^ Clarify what this is supposed to mean.

Does the clutch operation take place with the pedal down near the floor (as opposed to operation MOL in the middle of pedal travel, as would be expected)? Or does it happen in the expected location (ie, middle of travel) but clutch operation occurs over a very short, limited range of pedal travel?

I had the clutch looked at this weekend and the mechanic asked the same question, CBB9M. The clutch grabs very positively. It catches at the half-way point in pedal travel, but there is little slip. The mechanic said that is just fine and I that I can let the pedal out slower with a little more pressure on the push pedal. I tried it this yesterday and it seems to be working.
