As I see it so far..

Pro's
  • Fully boxed n frame
  • 2G 2.3L Ecoboost Inline 4 /280hp-310Tq
  • Downhill Assist
  • Trail Control
  • 10 Speed Auto trans
  • Aluminum Tailgate
  • Crew Cab Option
  • Factory Bash Plate
  • Reinforced Skid-Plates
  • 2-Speed Electronic Transfer Case
  • Electronic Locking Rear-Diff
  • Waterproof Storage Under Rear Seats
  • Shares SOME F150 DNA as far as parts go

Con's
  • NO Diesel Option (At least at launch but too close both in comparison and timing of the F150 release of a 3.0L diesel option)
  • Aluminum Tailgate
  • NO Raptor trim slated for North American soil
  • Trail Control Availability on Raptor Only (? Possible FX4)
  • NO Standard Cab Option
  • NO Mention of a 6ft box [However, wheelbase is set at two distinct lengths and a crew cab will likely not see a short box; much like Toyota and Nissan did and the World Ranger offers a 6ft bed - Keep fingers crossed]
Overall, If some of the options were to change, I could seriously consider one if it was to ideally be close to the T6 Ranger and its offroad pkg's and capabilities. I loved the old style Escort GT from 86-90, I thought they were cool, boxy, hyper fun cars. When the Mazda version came out in 91' I didnt like it. By 95 I bought one - A 95' Black 2 Door Hatchback which after done modifying turned basic bolt on Mustangs and Camaro's into chew-toys.. it was funny and sadly way before Youtube for proof of street cars with V8 embarrassments having their asses handed to them by a Ford Escort which oddly at the time seemed worse than being tromped on by an import - I mean.., it was an Escort for God's sake! [Not even a Cosworth MKIV either].

My only issues & concerns would be in some of the electronics now, the fact there may not be a manual trans at all. and the pricing I feel would be fair to an average market demographic like the Ranger used to be.

I am a bit discouraged that they lack in other foresight of other features but felt to offer 8 Different wheels in 3 different sizes because they felt that was important - especially considering the after markets over saturation of "wheel options" now.

Debut and full disclosure, we'll see. In general I think it would make a good shop/demo vehicle but to agree with "T-sq".. Its gotta have that 6ft box for sure.

I'm glad they revealed the new setup, but i wish they'd stop showing and only mentioning the car version.

It will come in standard cab, super cab and the one we keep seeing, the car cab (4 door, no bed)

Negative on the Standard cab for US Soil... Like most things here in Soviet Amerika it seems at times. lol

"The Ranger will be offered in supercab and supercrew cab with four fullsize doors. The global Ranger sold elsewhere has a standard cab option. Ford is not providing exact dimensions, but they should not vary much from the global Ranger—which would make it about 201 inches long, 73 inches wide, and 71 inches high with a 127-inch wheelbase. Ground clearance is about 9 inches, making steps unnecessary"

SOURCE: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/ford/ranger/2019/2019-ford-ranger-first-look-review/

Although things could change, as far as the statements from the Editor Alisa Priddle - Motortrend desk jockey/magazine mechanic

Would be nice to know the status on an extended cab version (with a 6+ish foot bed) and the pricing on the Lariat and the FX4 trim levels. I like the tranny offering, nice!

Now that they've released it...anybody think I'll be lucky enough to see one at the Montreal Auto Show?

It opens late this week; I'm planning on going the following weekend. Seeing the '19 Ranger isn't my primary reason for going, but it would be nice if it was there.

(If it is, I'll bring back pics, for sure.)

Agreed, but then, for the most part, we're all here because we like a pickup truck, which, traditionally at least, doesn't have a full size car between the engine and the bed.

I want to see the supercab, that might be more interesting.

I agree with the 4-door not looking good thing. However, those Mexican and Argentinian Rangers (like ours, only having 4 actual doors) would be super cool to have simply because they aren't offered here in the US. To get one of those and mod the ever-lovin' piss out of it would be a super fun project! AMMARITE? :)

Jim Oaks got several good pictures of the supercab when we were in Detroit. It definitely has a full 6 foot bed, compared to the 5 foot crew cab bed. Both versions use the same wheelbase, but the frame itself is different.

That supercab is a big improvement, but the damn thing still looks like Toyota.

So you're saying a crew cab isn't a real truck?

They aren't a half ton.  And the newer f-150s can be had with the 6.5 foot bed and a crew cab.

I stand corrected by a smarter person.

Trucks are not something i know much about - just my opinions, however i don't like the look of the smaller trucks with a crew cab, F150 is about as small as i think it can get with that size cab and not look too stupid.

I always thought it was bodyline dependent.  I like 4 door Tacomas. But I don't like the 4 door Colorado.

Hmm, there always seem to be exceptions for sure, but style doesn't seem to be something trucks have (had?) when they were primarily designed for utility.

I'm not saying they never had any visual design effort, but i think it was absolutely a last thought on the list.

Maybe 50 years ago.  Style points have been a selling point in adverts for years

If you go look trucks have always been advertised as tough, but car like.  Good looking, fashionable, you name it.
Most truck consumers wants a rig that looks good, drives good, and still do any job they throw at it.

They were always advertised as such, but i want to say it's because they needed to kinda sway the consumer on the idea - again, i know so little about trucks, it's mostly from a foreign perspective, but trucks have not (historically) been as good as cars. Maybe older American cars? I digress :)

Does anyone know when we will get some actual technical data on these things?!?! You would think that a truck slated to be here in early 2019 would at least have some engine choices and towing capacity available by now...

Well, before it takes the Midsized truck market by storm.. Ford better get a grip on some already recalls of the Steering ripping from the welds issues already presently being established as an Uh ohhh Down under on both the New Ranger UTE and the Everest (Explorer) right now.

Its making quite the Stir and if one thing Aussies LOVE to do besides drink beer is.. to rip on American vehicles and how weak they are...
