So i'm doing the EFan mod, i'm trying to get the radiator hose adaptor to fit a temperature sensor switch, all the pipe adaptors are 1/8th NPT yet the sensors are all 3/8 NPT!!

What the heck, am i missing something here?

"The most common switch used is the BMW dual temperature switch:

Switch #1 = BMW 80 / 88* C (180/195*F) dual temp switch P/N 61318361787

Switch #2 = BMW 91 / 99* C (195/210*F) dual temp switch P/N 61311378073

These temperature switches have a M14 x1.5 thread.

14mm x 1.5 to 3/8" Brass Adapter:

Hollister Road offered a brass adapter so you can install this metric threaded switch in to a 3/8" temperature sensor fitting.

This is a brass adaptor for the BMW dual temperature switch and similar fan switches that have 14mm x 1.5 x 14mm deep thread. It turns the 14mm x 1.5 thread into a low profile 3/8" standard American pipe thread and lets you use a the dual temperature switches in one port on a non metric American intake manifold drilled for 3/8" pipe thread."

The thing you're finding is the reason why the coupler is still in my toolbox and not on my truck. I looked at several places and couldn't find anything.

If you absolutely insist on using the, admittedly, nicer looking anodized adapter rather than making one like I did, modify the premade adapter. Drill 'er out, then tap it for the 3/8ths sensor. You'll have to add a new grounding screw hole as you'll wind up going through the original one, but that in it of itself is dirt simple.

I was trying not to have to get my Brother to braze in an adaptor to some copper pipe i'll have to go find/buy, but it's really looking like i'll need to.

I've got a switch arriving tomorrow 3/8th, it'll work, but the adaptor is the weirdest thing, what on earth are people fitting to them.

Having said that, there is one on ebay, looks like a home made special, but it does have a 3/8th in it, albeit for $30.

brazing is overkill for something made of copper and brass. All you need is plumbing solder and a torch.

@Jamman - it's literally a few inches of 38mm/1.5inch diameter piping with a 3/8th NPT screw adaptor half way along it.

What is the diameter of the hose inlets.

Can someone just send me one? I can make a dozen or so. Brass if you want, stainless, whatever.

@MaXX: the water pipes in your house are soldered fittings and they can have anywhere from 20 to 60 lbs. of water pressure on them. Your cooling system only generates between 7 and 15 lbs. of pressure.

Listed spec in my pictures post - 38mm or 1.5 inches, threaded hole in 3/8th NPT.

Per the pics, basic rib for retention and jubilee clips.

Oh and yeah the grounding post, most sensor switches seem to be single pole.

Depending on quantity and material.

I have bronze, copper, CRS and aluminum in stock. I don't have any stainless that diameter.

Aluminum would turn to crap, CRS would rust, bronze would be about the best IMO but stainless is king.

I bet china is selling those for like 5 bucks LOL.

You can buy one even on Amazon for $10-15 delivered, alloy, but threading is 1/8 instead of the 3/8 we need.

Copper might be best for something in the cooling system? But if you don't already have that, and of course, i only want/need one of these :)

I don't know what those other metals are like for conductivity, for the single connector temp switch, you need to ground a wire through the housing, hence the screw hole.

How does grounding it do any good when it is insulated on both sides by rubber hose? Or is it a ground wire you are hooking to the tube because the sensor is single wire?
