I saw a 2000 long bed for $2500. You dont see those often. My friend had one years ago. I'm very tempted to grab it up for a future project. Any one here have a long bed ranger? I was also curious if mazda offered the b3000 in a long bed?

Here's why I'm interested in the long bed. Since I owned my first ranger, (black 87 4cyl, 4spd, std cab) I always wanted one with a V8. I now have the truck and resources to fulfill this dream. I'm saving up for it now and will be ready this coming spring. In the mean time, while researching my dream I've come to some conflicts of desire. Watching the project rolling thunder swap a 4.6L DOHC in a 02 mazda made me REALLY want the 4.6L snake engine. My current ranger is a 2007 4door 4x4 4.0L V6 Sport auto. For this truck I think the 5.0 explorer swap is the better choice because I want to go 4wheeling in style A/C and all. I think the rwd std cab long bed would make a cool 4.6L DOHC street truck and because it's only 2 wheel drive itd make a better recipient.

Are the long beds super hard to find? Should I jump all over this truck?

Not really concerned about rarity. I know there are trim packages that are rare. I'm just wondering if I'll see another long bed for sale again or if I should grab this one.

It's been advertised for 53 days and price has dropped a $1000 off of the original price. If it's still around this weekend I'm gonna take a look. Think itd make a mean long street truck

Read a thread about making an extended cab long bed. The frame needed to be extended and the wheel base adjusted

It's way easier then your thinking Eddie. No custom parts on welding is needed

A lot of FR members have more room, more tools an experience than I. Lol. I think I looked this idea up a year or 2 ago and found a project. I cant relocate it but there were a few issues but none our community at FR couldnt over come. I think a guy on RPS has a build thread but I havent searched it yet. Would look cool

I changed the rear frame section on my truck earlier this summer. I made a thread on it. Check it out. The only special tool I has for that job was a grinder

Eddie, have you gone ahead with this?
There were some younger guys across the street where I used to live that had one of these projects. Had a built 5.0 in it. Never got very friendly to me, something about an older guy with a built 7.3 they couldn't handle.
Truck looked and ran great.

I talked myself out of it. I was buying another project before I started my original truck. I looked online and you can find long beds across the states. Depending on how my 07 sport goes I may do another project with a long bed. The one near me was older, pretty trashed and was asking too much.

Gotcha, it would be interesting to follow a build like that though.

Right now I'm researching and saving up for the explorer V8 swap to my 4x4 ranger. If that goes well I'll consider the long bed. I want to do a 4.6L V8 swap in the long bed and keep it 2WD. I guess you could call it the mustang V8 swap. Unfortunately I dont have the space or resources to justify 2 projects. I'll do one well and see about the shelby ranger next.

I looked on carguru and found a bunch of rangers advertised as long beds but only 5 were real. The longbeds were produced up till 07. I hope I'll be able to find one when I'm ready.

Well, there goes my long bed swap (mines a 2008) lol. Unless the frames are the same from a couple years prior...good luck on the build! I like reading the build threads.

It's easy to convert to a long bed. You literally only need 3 parts. First part is obviously the bed the 2nd part is the rear frame section from a long bed truck and the third part is the hard part you will have to have a rear drive shaft made since ford never made an extended cab long bed the drive shaft dosen't exist. Keep in mind that is only for extended cab trucks regular cab trucks were available with long beds. Changing of the rear frame is as easy as 16 bolts. Complete swap takes a good day to do

I was hoping you'd chime in. His 08 shouldnt be a problem because from 06-11 trucks were the same. They just stopped making longbeds In 07. Putting a longbed on an 08 shouldnt be any different than any 06-11 right.

The frames are the same from 1998-2011. The rear frame sections are the same for 2wd and 4wd regular cab and extended cab trucks. The only difference is  the front half being 2wd, 4wd, regular cab and extended cab.

I read a couple threads on swapping a longbed on a extended cab. One guy extended his frame and the other guy tried to relocate the rear wheels to the longbed location. Both had huge hassles accomplishing the swap. Your method is by far the best, easiest and makes the most sense. You are the only one to post this method. Cant wait till you get the truck to go with the bed and frame!!!

There would be a few small PITA's, brake lines, emergency brake cables, wiring if you didn't take the entire length from the long bed.

I wouldn't hesitate to lengthen a driveshaft myself especially an aluminum one. I think I would even drive it first to see if it vibrates and if it did have it balanced but chances are it would not. They really don't rotate that fast. Less than 5,000 rpm at 80MPH and that's with a 4.10 rear end. Slower for 3.73.
