Having bought a very crippled 98...it had a very bad exhaust problem. The roar in the cab would cause you to be deaf for several  minutes after leaving the truck. I do not know much about a 98 ranger. I took it to an Exhaust & Auto shop.  Sounded sweet on the way home.. then when I looked at my Os codes.. I crawled under there and there was not the two large round things in front of the Muffler. How do I fix it so the OS codes are fixed and I am getting the right fuel/air ratio... Gas cost too much to have a gas hog on the road.

cheers
Sammy

Hi Sammy,

Couple things first... is this a 4 cyl, 3.0 or 4.0 V6? Sorry if I missed it in an earlier post.

Your P0141 and P0136 codes mean you don't have a rear O2 sensor hooked up. Sounds like the didn't put the Cat back on.

you have 3 (maybe 4) o2 sensors. 2 of them are right after the manifold. These are the ones that control how well your truck runs.

Then there should be a cat converter and then the rear o2 sensors. The rear o2 sensors are just there to see how well the cats are doing at removing emissions. Not having rear o2 sensors won't cause poor gas millage or performance, you just won't be able to pass emissions (if your area requires it) and you will have a check engine light on all the time.
