A couple years ago after I changed the grille & front lights from the 98-00 style to the 01-03 style I also replace the aluminium hood with the powerdome hood from 01-03. The problem I am having is when I pull the hood release the hood doesn't pop up, I have to put a stick from the hood release handle under the dash to the floor holding the release in the open position so I could release the secondary latch to open the hood. Should there be a clip on the hood to pop it open like the aluminium hood did?. Maybe someone with a powerdome hood could take a pic for me so I can see. I have replaced the hood latch because the old one was shot & I adjusted it several times which did no good.

Never did it but the powerdome is so much heavier I doubt that a latch for an aluminum hood would push it up. That little leaf style spring is what gives it the initial nudge.

Any chance to nab a latch from a "powerdome"? I bet the spring is like 5 times thicker.

For giggles try loosening the rubber stops by screwing them downward to see if it is just too tight of a release or if it indeed needs tougher spring.

Hope yours work, mine were so locked up I had to replace them both.

I tried loosening the stops already & also adjusted the hood latch which did not work. I was looking for a pic since I do not even see where it would go.

I have the same problem and a little tsp on the Driver's side Cab corner of the hoof will allow it to pop just enough.

Also, is the latch releasing completely ?

Grease up all of the hinged locations and the latch.

An option, which I have not done, would be a Door Popper !

The tap on the corner works for me !

I will try tapping on the hood the next time I have to open it, & it is a brand new hood latch. Thanks for the suggestions.

I was having this same problem on my 06 then the head cheese JAMMAN noticed my hood cable was almost broken in 2. The plastic covering was cracked not allowing the cable itself to pull the latch completely open. Installed a new cable pops open every time

You could ditch the latch and go with pins:

How did this work out ?

Hood popping OK now ?

Did you install a new Release Cable, something I need to look at !

It still does not pop open, I still use the stick under the hood release handle to get it open. I have replaced the latch because the spring on the latch broke, but I will probably replace the cable at some point.

Funny, the banging  the hood worked perfectly for me but I am going to double check the cable.

I did have a broken spring awhile back, got a new spring, took out the Latch and replaced the spring... a pain, but less costly than another latch, in fact I got three springs in the package from Lowes !

Id have to say that the cable was likely the culprit since the beginning. All the spring is meant to do is return the latch back to the ready position AND retain it there as a secondary latching for those of us whom may have had the misfortune of a hood flying up on them at some point in life...

NOT that I know of anyone.... close.. [SMH] Damn Honda civic!
Oh well.. Gave me a great excuse to buy a carbon fiber hood back in the day thank god for ridiculous price quotes (3) from body repair shops that justified it. ;)

Yes the spring is only for the locking mechanism for the hood, it was more of a repair I did... "and I should have done the cable too" !

But to tell the truth I never thought of the cable so I am glad this thread brought it up !
