Hi guys,sorry i haven't been on in awhile,been sickly.
My AC has always worked perfectly, until yesterday.I am now only getting cold air blowing out of windshield, defrost mode.
I've worked all the knobs,it stays on defrost.I suspect that my blend door actuator went belly up.
Any thoughts, suggestions ??.I need to get this fixed as soon as possible !!!
Living here in Florida.
Old retired guy,
Please HELP !!!!:frd:cheers

It could be a blend door issue, or an issue with a vacuum leak. When there is no vacuum to the system it defaults to defrost.

^^^ Signature for a vacuum leak as defrost is the default under this circumstance.

I think you guys are right. That heater hose coming out of the firewall, there's a black round valve thing, with a x in the middle.
Off of that there is thin gray hose,he said there is no vacume coming out and that's,the problem. Not the blend door.
What is the name of that valve ???  He said the valve is around $60.00,does that sound about right ???
Please let me know. He's fixing it tomorrow.!!

See ya,old retired guy:cheers:frd

Tell him to order it from rockauto.com it is listed on their site for $19.05.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,2006,ranger,3.0l+v6,1432356,heat+&+air+conditioning,heater+valve,6860

I order all my parts for our trucks from rockauto.com, unless I need it now. I almost never pay parts store price any more.

Completely agree.  Even got a radiator for the wifes Subaru cheaper than anywhere I could find.  Good thing it was summer, she drove my truck, I took the bike.

Assuming that the test for (no) vacuum was done where the vacuum hose connection is at the firewall, and since the vacuum source will be on the intake or thereabout, then there is either a hose failure along the way, a hose disconnected along the way or the vacuum reservoir (has an internal check valve so it holds vacuum to HVAC system with engine off and when engine is heavily loaded/floored) has somehow failed. I have no idea what this $60 valve has to do with anything pertaining to the actual problem (unless maybe it only happens on max A/C, which wasn't mentioned earlier but...) at this point in time since it's operated by vacuum supplied to the HVAC control itself, of which you say is not functioning at this time. Realizing this, why is this guy wanting to replace the heater hose shutoff valve and how is replacing *that* supposed to cure the real problem???

Agree ^^^

Replacing the Heater Valve doesn't fit the symptoms.

I was going to compose a similar comment. Thanks for saving me the effort!

Although it's possible that Pelican left left out useful info, I'll admit that after reading post #5 and thinking about the real problem at hand, that his mechanic found a loose hose and instead of winning a customer by putting it back on, smiling and saying, "no charge", that he instead didn't have it in his blood to let the guy go without making money. So along with hooking the hose up he sells the guy a part for $60 that he bought for $20 (everyone knows that shops make money on parts, they sell at full retail but that's not what they pay) and collects labor to install. Just a suspicion, given what's been said.

$60.00 for valve and labor. I didn't realize how easy it was to do.15 min. cool down time,15 min.,install.
I used to do all my maintenance on my truck, and past trucks.Until i aquired COPD.
