Hmm, just found this 50x70 resolution video on how to attach the back to the base, now i know where the bolts are i need to find.

This also means that i should be able to easily pull the one from my current seat and just whack it on the new base and fit the foam/cover :)

Short version, there are two screws in the side 'pod' or trim, and one in the seat-back adjust handle.

Underneath there you can unhook the cable and you will see two bolts (see holes in the picture)
The other side is very similar, but per the video, you need to remove the seat belt clip to access the two boles and cable on that side.

Seats are currently sat like this with a fan blowing on them to assist in drying.  I did try some 303 on the seat base, but it's not enough to clean off the worst of the dirt, i will need my dawn spray for that.

MaDMaXX,
How's this going ?
The damage looks like more trouble to fix than what it is worth. If it was just a bent tube then I might say go for it but the welded support and the tube... you can't heat the bracket and try to straighten it without heating the tube too, can't be done with just a torch.
Maybe find a different back, switch the covering.

Yeah, whilst i don't think straightening this would be too bad, i'm just going to use the back from my current seat.

But, gotta find some time when i can take the truck off the road - it's not used much so shouldn't be hard.

However, it doesn't make any sense to pull my seat if this new one isn't otherwise ready to go straight in.

I have some cleaning to do, i'll need to use soapy water to get all the dirt off, make sure the drivers seat belt bracket is supposed to be bent, or straighten it.

You have an '01-03 Ranger, the seats come from an '06... are the seat parts interchangeable ?
I know the earlier one interchange some but I thought things changed.
I did some FX4 Bucket Seat from a King Cab, interchanging with my EDGE 60/40, standard cab, swapped the parts all around to get the best of the best and all worked out.
I was just thinking the newer ones changed their profile so I thought maybe they wouldn't interchange.
Just thinking out loud !

I doubt the seat frame itself changed, my current seats are also 60/40 - the foam and cover *have* changed, but i obviously have both of those from the new seat :)

Well, looks like i stupidly naive about the seat frames not changing between '02 and '06 :(
whilst the seat back frame is probably the same, it doesn't look like the way it attaches to the seat base is even close.I can't easily pull my old one apart in the same way the '06 seats were dismantled.

Here are the underneath of the drivers seat base for both the old seat, and the newer '06 seat.

All i'm trying to do, is see how to remove the seat back from the base, however gaining access to the area doesn't look easy (on the old seat) and making it worse, what i *can* see when i try and look, does not look promising, the design for that portion looks far more complicated and not compatible.
I guess it makes sense they simplified the design, i just wasn't expecting it.

So.  I have a problem - i can't carry out my original plan of just using the seat back frame from my old seats.
I still have the newer seat back frame, but as you see from the pics, it *is* bent and won't be too easy to straighten correctly.

I don't know the next best step forward - i'm wondering about using the frame back from the passenger seat, on the drivers seat, which will at least solve the immediate problem of torn cover on the old drivers side.
If will leave mismatched seats in the truck, but that's less of a concern to me right now, i just don't know how best to go forward from there.

A little more digging shows that the seat base was the same from '04 through '11 but the seat back changed again in '06 through '09.

Drivers seat back part number for '06 through '09 is 6L5Z-1061019-A

I found a reasonably prices one for an '04, but it's for the passenger side, i don't know if they're different, can't see why they would be, and i don't know how they changed from '05 to '06.

I guess the question that pops in my mind is, "Why do you want '06 Seats" ?

If you have a King Cab, what about trying a set of Explorer Seats, Explorer Center Console, there are four different style of Consoles.

The Explorer Seats pretty much bolt in, some seats are powered, and the Center Console, I would stick to the same style as the Ranger, the ones with the Cup Holders in front of each other... not side by side, AND then there is the full length Console, if you are automatic, and then there is a Special Console for the Sport Version of the Ex... it has a removable Bag, good idea or bad it is what it is.

Sometimes the rear seat mounting bolts holes in the Ex Seats need to be reamed out for alignment but not a big problem.
Ex Seats didn't fit my Std 2-Dr Cab but I got lucky and found a pair of '02 FX4 Buckets and more recently found a Black Center Console.

I know money is tight for a lot of people, me too with this remodeling I am doing, but sometime if you pay a little more up front you get a better results.

I already had the Ex Powered Seats and swapped them for the FX4 pieces and I used a Sport Console, I found in the JY, for a while, had one bag set up for everday stuff and then there was another set up for my Photo stuff. If there was more room in the Std Cab I would be seated on EX seat.

I didn't choose the 06 seats, unfortunately they were the only seats, including exploder seats, that have come up in multiple junk yards in the last 6 months :(

Kind of stuck now, either find a new '06 to '09 driver's seat back frame, or somehow get this one repaired.

Like I suggested before; take the frame over to your buddies that did the exhaust work. They can heat that up, bend it back into place, then reinforce it as necessary. You may have to take the other seat hack frame so they can achieve the proper angle. Honestly MaXX, I think that is your best bet.

Thanks is Michael, I too, think that's the best bet at the moment.

I just hit a massive "depression" wall last night when the inevitable and horrifying conclusion was discovered.

So, gotta get the old seats back in, gotta strip the new passenger seat back, take both frames to my local garage and see what they say.

Where did all of the JY Rangers go ?
It was only five years back and we had so many parts it was hard to get a good price.
Explorer Seats were all over the place, now all you can find is a damaged set of seats'
I just saw a set of '06, 60/40 Seats, look decent but the price was $750.
If we got $300 for a set of Explorer Powered Seats we were getting the high end.
Funny how things go !

Well this just went from bad to worse! :(

On a whim, i just tried my belts into the passenger seat base ('06) and whilst it inserted, it would not click in.

I do not know if i can retro the '02 buckles into the '06 seat base!

Kealel: you said the existing buckles should fit right onto the 06 seats?  You had 03 buckles, do you know if they're the same as the '02?

**EDIT - confirmed '02 and '03 buckles are the same, just hope there is some magical way the '02 buckles fit the '06 seat bases.

02 and 03 buckles are the same, and the mounting of the buckles is actually really easy. Take off the old buckle on the 2006, and you'll notice what holds them in as a threaded rod with a nut on the end. On the 02 and 03 seats a bolt goes through the buckle into the seat.
Pretty simple so far, instead of a bolt holding the buckle in, it is a nut. So what modification needs to be made? The nut actually has a part of it that goes into the seat buckles (you'll know what I mean when you remove it) and since the 2002 buckles do not have enough room to allow the nut to enter them, the nut does not go onto the threaded rod. All you have to do is remove that portion on the nut or just get a new one. I grinded mine off and it took 30 seconds.

Haha, yeah, right ;)

I did pick up a donor drivers seat yesterday, got the back off it, but haven't had time to make further progress.

I'm now confident i have everything i need, but per Kealel, i need to swap the seatbelt buckles, so i will use the passenger seat as a practise before i put more work into the drivers side.

Just asking ... you picked the '06 Seats because they were the only ones... what about yours, you don't like the looks of them ?

What about new cushions and covers ?

OR... find a driver's bucket seat that is a close match for your OEM seats ? Seat Covers on eBay aren't too expensive !

I grabbed the '06 seats as they were both there in a newly arrived '06 in the picknpull, they were dirty, but intact and cleanable.

My seats are fine, except they have cig burn holes in various places and the biggest issue, a long tear in the drivers seat base bolster.

I couldn't find original replacement covers that weren't nearly 500 dollars!! (i don't care if they're discontinued and hard to come by, the trucks worth that anymore.

Anyway, i also HATE seat covers (going over the factory covers) so that was out the door, besides, the good ones are still expensive - at the moment, i'll be about 130 into these seats when i'm done.
