Was looking at an '88 BII on line and it had a Floor Shift for the auto trans; some had it, some didn't.
It didn't look too bad, but it fit, it worked, but if.when you do a 5.0L Swap, things could change.
When I did the '88 STX Swap, I used a B&M Shifter, a little different, some people didn't like driving with it but I liked it and that was all that matter to me; although they might have gone up in price since then !
Have you checked out any after market Shifters ?

I haven't looked at the aftermarket.  Because of my OCD on such things, it has to be/look factory OEM.  I have narrowed things down to a 2008 - 2012 Escape/Mariner/Tribute console and shifter.  I need to get some measurements from one before I can tell if it is feasible or not.  Couldn't find any CV/GM consoles as apparently they are harder to find than I first thought.

That is a very generous offer, Mike!  Does your Escape have a console that looks similar to this?:

Thats is ok Michael, aren't we here to help each other?. Yes the console in our 08 Escape looks like exactly like that.

Cool!  The measurements I need are:

Console width between the seat backs
Console width where it meets the dash
Console height where it meets the dash
Console total length at the floor tunnel

There is NO hurry on this, Mike.  I really do appreciate the help!

Here is something I ran across while researching this console: Console Cubby Pads

Thanks! :-)

That could be an interesting project. Not that I would do it but to see how it looks in a Ranger would be interesting !  I would like to see the Radio section fit too !
Good Luck on fitment mhoward !

The Cubby Pads, they need one that does Inductive Charging !

I *THINK* it will look amazing... IF it is close enough that it can be made to fit and I do a good job modding!  As for the radio section, the HVAC controls are so VERY different, I would never attempt it!

Maybe on the Radio Section... but it would be a nice looking dash.

Hope the Escape Console fit, should look good.

I agree, that center dash section would look great, but I would never be able to make the controls work, so it would all be for looks only!

A little too much work and the Ranger Radio Bezel and HVAC Controls work already.I've thought on some Radio Bezel Changes but decided against it.
Going with the Hydrographocs Bezel and the custom HVAC Panel... colors anyway.   Also my Dash is going through some color changes we will see.

The first console picture you posted looks close, the others are a little different.
I want to see the fitment only to see it, not to copy it !
What is wrong with what you have already... it works, right; and you can get an aftermarket shifter that fits your ideas.Just thinking out loud.

The first console pic was of a Crown Vic/Grand Marquis. I think that one would have been an easy install, but I couldn't find one.  The other console is 2008-2012 Escape/Mariner/Tribute (pic is actually the Tribute).  Problem with what I have now (2001 Explorer) is that it is "plasticy".  It creaks and pops every time you even look at it.  Also, it is very narrow where the shifter would be located.  The main challenge with that is you have to fabricate the top part of the console to accommodate the shift lever and bezel.  I'm just not feeling it with how it would look and that would be a butt load of work with fiberglass and bondo.  Also, as mentioned before, I want to retain the OEM look.  By using the Escape console AND shifter, the whole thing will look more natural.

Mhoward the 08 Escape console looks very close to the factory full length consoles for the FX4s. I think the 08 Escape console might work and look really nice

One was just sold on this Site, $300.00 !

It's not bad if you have a column shift but a floor shift will be a little high.

The Shorty Console allows more room on the floor for the new Shifter.

@Eddie: The FX4 console wouldn't work for my application (floor shift).  Also, it doesn't appear to have an armrest.  At any rate, $300 for a console is more than I'm willing to pay.  My local Pick N Pull charges $10 for the shifter unit and $20 for the console.   Once I know the dimensions of the Escape console, I can determine if there is any possibility to make it work.  THEN I need better weather to hit the salvage yard.

@Scrambler: If I was going with an aftermarket shifter, a shorty console would be perfect.

I was thinking the front of both consoles look similar, wondering if it will be a bolt in !

The Escape Console looked interesting, a place to store things, (my storage is just junk stuff), cup holders, a must, and the Shifter looks nice... PLUS the little front catch all !

It will give a great look to your Ranger.

I like this thread because I had thought I was tired of my Shorty Ranger Console and never really looked at the others, now I know, kind of like the BII, I will be happy with what I have.

mhoward, doesn't look like I will be interested in your full length console... IF you go escape, sorry !

Scrambler, that's not a problem.  The cost of shipping from Southern Indiana to Southern California would be pretty steep, I think.  I will update this thread when progress is made... whenever weather and parts availability makes that possible.

Another good source for a console might be the Edge.

Not sure if you already answered this but I like the carbon fiber look of your current console. Is that a wrap?

@Eddie: That is indeed, a cheap vinyl wrap job by yours truly.  As for the EDGE crossover console; that is the same console as in my wife's Lincoln MKx.  They are SUPER wide and would not fit in between the seats.  Also, they have the PRNDL shift pattern as opposed to our PRND21.

That should give you an idea of what the Edge/MKx console is like... it's massive!
