Pulled a cluster yesterday on a ranger with a manual transmission.. wow much easier. No gear selector cable no gear selector lever. Took minutes.

Replaced with LED's, going back in today.

New cluster lights, new hvac control lights, new bezel, new radio mount, reconnect the antenna and microphone. But that's for another thread, was just amazed how much easier it is pulling one without the lever and cable in the way.

When you are ready to pull yours, there are a dozen people on here that can help. I have pulled so many now I don't dread it at all and actually get excited about it.

Things do "happen", like the latest for some reason the connector would not come off the dimmer (which becomes useless after installing LED's) I ended up partially breaking the clip then wiggling it with large pliers to bring it off. Broke the clip because it was impossible to grab the switch, grab the connector with pliers and pry up on the connector tab with a small screwdriver at the same time. Would take 3 hands and I have 2.

the connector on that damn dimmer switch is such a PITA!!! Flathead screwdriver to lightly pry up the clip then pull

I can release the gear indicator cable with my fingernails
Have to put key in truck and put shifter in 1 so cluster clears

I use Dewalt 1/4" 20v impact with a harbor freight flex drive extension, makes it so I can get all 3 of the vertical 7mm bolts on the bezel (above the steering column) in 3 seconds.

Pulling clusters is FUN!
Lets see it with the leds and what leds did you use?
I put leds in my 97 F350 cluster, wow what a difference!!

I just used some forward facing 6 smd daylight T10's I had laying around, doing key smaller ones too like the turn signals, CEL and brights. You can't LED the door ajar and ABS lights they have a small glow when not on, some sort of circuit bleeding that probably can be cured with a resistor but I have not played yet. I test all clusters out of the truck this is the actual cluster being installed, pic was from 5 minutes ago :)

The old lights were so dim you could barely see it at night I don't see how the guy could stand it. Things like that bug me so cheap and easy to fix.

Jim, no wonder it was so dim it looks like 5 of the 6 bulbs were burnt out.

Oh, the reason i have zero experience of pulling an auto dash, is because i have a manual and had no issues pulling mine ;)

Are the LEDs you installed in the Dash in OEM Locations ?

Did you add extras ?

The Dash appear very evenly lighted and the only bright spots are the Dials.

Look good !

Leds stock location. Get a set from Buggman, he has some cool daybright 5SMD's, I bought a set for my green ranger and haven't put them in yet.

Don't bother with colors, makes things worse.

I have a brilliant natural blue one from a 97 mountaineer, the filters just happened to be blue and the LED's made it incredible. I might have to buy a blue ranger just to put it in.

Heres the blue. I wonder how many other stock color filters they used?

I have seen a few of these Dash Units with LEDS, some with scratched off paint, some repainted from the rear, but somehow yours turned out the best Ive seen for OEM bulb placement.  Nice work !

If I attempt any dash work I want to do seaprate gauges, something like Auto Meter or even a Digital Setup, similar to one that was posted here I think !

I like the old school dashes and separate gauges are the way to go... but until then I will admire the work of others.

I do have aftermarket Gauge Faces with RED lettering and numerals and an "SVO" in the center of the Speed-O, I will have to dig them out and take a second look at those and see what I can do with them.  I purchased them a long time ago, started replacing my Cluster and found the wiring to be a problem, need to get that figured out too !
