Well since there was one it excited me to start another.

Got this for Christmas:

I already bought the install kit for the ranger with that rear guide thingy and a harness.

I'm just waiting for the backup camera to come then I will install. Full tutorial with vids.

I would LOVE to have one similar but with navigation included. It is NOT in the budget for 2018. I keep trying to convince myself that my MACH stereo with 7 CD capacity, FM iPod adapter and 110 watt amp w/sub woofy is perfectly fine. :(

Nice!
I wish Pioneer or Sony or some other manufacturer with the 7" touch screens would come up with an external volume knob. I miss having knobs to fiddle with lol.
It's just not the same pressing daintily on a little button to turn volume up & down.

Terry, I think Boss makes a couple of models that have an old school rotating volume knob.

EDIT: look HERE!

Next he will be wanting a CD player.

Why didn't they ever go to the small format DVD's for car audio use? Seems like a natural progression instead of straight from large CD's to usb drives.

Doing a little pre-install prep.
Notice the corners how sharp they are:

So  these will need to be squared out with a file. Done right after the pic.

The kit I bought had a harness AND this which I feel is a bare necessity for a ranger install. Some of you will be familiar with the function :)

Yep! You definitely want to have the rear slide support, otherwise the head unit will not sit level and will most likely rattle and crack the bezel.

I need to make up some more of my super strong side mount brackets for double dins. I didn't like the little abs plastic parts that came with my kit so i made my own side mounts out of 1/4" lexan... no back bracing needed now.

We have to park 2 rangers in front of my house on the street. If the one in front has to back in, you need to be as close as possible to the front of the other ranger in order for both driveways to have clearance. I always end up 3 feet away afraid I'm going to gore my sons bumper with my trailer hitch.

I have been interested in doing something like this for a long time. The back up camera would be nice as would better sound. Had my eye on a couple Alpine units. If the stock system didn't function I'd be all over it. But I am too cheap to pull something that still works fine...

I ran into an issue with mine. When the temperature drops down to around 20* or less, when I drop the truck into reverse, the system throws a continuous warning sound. When the truck warms up inside the cab, the problem goes away. Some circuitry is going out of spec with the super low temps and triggering the warning. Not a big deal, really, because it rarely gets that cold around here... and not for very long either.

Never could understand why you need a back up camera in a small pick up? :?

Reasons, regardless of vehicle size:

a) Backing up in close quarters, especially when dark
b) See what's behind you without constantly turning your head around. It would be tragic if a kid or one of their toys were to somehow cause damage to your vehicle vehicle backing up.
c) And then there is the beauty of backing up to a trailer, makes hitching up a breeze.

Yep, all of those reasons. Also I have dark tint that makes it a bit difficult to see out of the rear view mirror. Tight quarters being a regular cab is a bit restrictive as well.
The work truck I had last year had it. It was nice.

Every day I use this thing I love it more. It isn't like a technical dream come true, but it is so incredibly easy to operate I have not had to reference the manual for anything. Setting clock for "spring forward"... I touched the time and sure enough the adjustment came up. Selecting songs from the USB stick, press the icon.... it is easier than any phone I have owned and for as much as it does it is probably the easiest and most logical electronic device I have ever touched. Easier than my microwave for sure and certainly easier than that digital clock I have down stairs (another story)!
